    It's a phenomenon known as flashing. You can boil water one of two ways. Either you boil it by adding BTUs (heat) until it reaches it's boiling point at atmospheric pressure OR you can leave it at room temperature and drastically drop the pressure where the water will "flash" into steam. This principle is actually used in certain type of water purification systems and in refrigeration systems.

      Actually, if you run this experiment long enough, the whole beaker of water will freeze.
      This is because boiling requires energy, and the only place the energy can come from to do this is from the actual water itself. If there was a thermometer in the beaker, you would see it go down in temperature while the boiling is going on. Do it long enough and the temperature drops below zero and the water freezes.

      @@snicklefritz59if you’re asking if putting the vacuum pump with nothing inside into a bucket of water the answer is nothing would happen the water is boiling inside the vacuum cause changing the pressure around the water decreases the boiling temperature but since the water isn’t in the vacuum it would still be under normal atmospheric pressure and would remain the same temperature

    • @Coltonmuenzler
      @Coltonmuenzler 7 месяцев назад +2

      @@kristimcgowandarkoscellard3126the water would just boil into a vapor although you can achieve very low pressures with a manmade vacuum it doesn’t mimic the very low temperatures and the absence of atmospheric pressure ie. a total vacuum but that is the jist of how it works in “space”

      +Random Vids Yea, since he is boiling the water but not adding heat, only the most energetic particles will leave the surface of the water. If you remove the energetic particles, the water gets colder, eventually you will freeze the water as there isnt enough energy for the particles to stay as a liquid. You can freeze nitrogen this way, by getting it to -210 C

    Fyi, the water isn't boiling. What's happening is all the dissolved air is dropping is bubbling out due to the decreased air pressure. This pretty much what happens to divers when they get the Bends. Nitrogen dissolves in the blood and muscle tissue at higher water pressures and if the diver were to surface too quickly, the nitrogen bubbles out tearing some of the tissue and causing all sorts of havoc.

      Actually it is boiling, if the vapor pressure of water equals the external pressure it will boil. This is seen in everyday life at higher elevations where water boils at a lower temperature due to lower atmospheric pressure. Also note at the end the water that boiled condenses on the glass when the vacuum is removed.

      +Kevin K Well, i can just tell you thats wrong xD
      What actually happens is that steam ocuppies more space than liquid water, and since the vaccum is "sucking" the water to fill the space, the water boils due to the energy of the vaccum.
      Also, the water is cold, and never heats up, due to the fact that the energy is not on the form of heat.

    • @BNW322
      @BNW322 7 лет назад +16

      The Beginning of Knowledge, despite popular belief, temperature is not the only property that affects the states of matter. Both pressure and temperature determine if the material is a solid, liquid or gas. Think of the air pressure as a weight compressing the water into a liquid state. When the air is removed, there is nothing keeping the water liquid so it evaporates. For more information look up Phase Diagrams on google.

    water contains oxygen , so when placed in vaccum, air disappears as though oxygen disappears so the oxygen in water will move to the part having less oxygen which is air so that bubbling is due to oxygen leaving water

    Can you use this to distill water, or must you have heat? And if you can, how much energy can you save this way?

    • @Wildlink123
      @Wildlink123 8 лет назад

      That's a tricky question. If the water has bacteria in it, no. Because heat kills bacteria, cleaning the water. To filter it with the evaporation, theoretically you could because the vapor would move to another container leaving behind any debris.

    my question is that if the water was boiling, presumably because all the oxygen was going away, then why did none of the water go away, since it's made of Two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom?
