Yes sir lots of good meat for the freezer, we have seal often through the summer especially on the boat. Yes he certainly has a interest for it, stuck to me like glue ...lol going to be tough leaving for fishing this year, hard when their at the age they don't understand ...!!!
Thank you yes they are a fine eating seal, you get 5 to 6 meals from a seal like this, the liver especially outta this type of seal is fantastic. Thanks again William.
Thank you for the kind words, may God bless you as well. Leaving tomorrow for a epic trip, 260 km ski doo for starters, hopefully get some kind of vid up in the next few days ...!!!
That looked like one heck of a shot...How far was that? Good shot and some more good eating...Nothing better than eating something the guy up stairs provided you with...I bet the little guy was excited...Take care buddy...
I would guess 120 meters or so, the .223 cal is a great rifle for this. Yes you got that right, I think its far better to harvest some and leave the environment intact than to do the opposite. Yes buddy he sure was excited, Anna was to, see was filming when I was cleaning, she's six and wants a computer so she can make her own videos ...lol I was already showing her some stuff she wanted to see how to add music things like that, she's very interested in it ...!!! You take care to buddy, all the best ...!!!
***** Thanks, if you ever gets a chance give it a try, very tasty and healthy to eat. Seal has to be cleaned and cooked proper but when done right makes a great meal, one of my favorites.
I love your videos, and thank you for sharing your way of life! Just curious do you ever have to worry about crevasses that you can fall into when your out in these remote places hunting?
TheBrokenWing8 Yes especially hunting seals and eider ducks from the head lands you have to be very careful especially when their filled with snow, you really have to watch your step, the land is pretty rugged in places i'll try show some of this sometime. Thanks for the comment, much appreciated ...!!!
Bob Lee Awesome thanks, from South to North, East to West there's so my diversity here, truly a outdoors persons paradise, I just love it here, you would certainly to. Thanks again, I certainly will ...!!!
Good stuff will, nice shot ! so at the end of your video, when you parked your sled, I noticed the car under the snow to your right. are you driving on a "road" that hasn't been plower or? do you guys only use sleds in the winter?
Thanks, some say its similar to beef liver in taste but much different texture, everyone that I seen that tried it for the first time, always liked it & said it was much better than expected. Seal though has to be cleaned & cooked proper more than anything else I know ...!!!!!
That's right, the fat is what you really got to be careful with, if the oil from the fat gets on the meat then it can get rancid kinda quick, you want to keep it chilled and trim well. I like to cover the seal in snow over night, next day its very firm, easy to trim the fat of..
Thank you those .223 cals are great for seal hunting, this was the old mans Tikka, she's very accurate. Heading to Makkovik tomorrow may enter a shooting contest down there should be fun, something like 260 km's on ski doo tomorrow, not really looking forward to that length of ride all the same ...!!!
Thank you they are, these are a very nice eating seal, I love all the parts but especially the ribs from these, they also have the best liver as well ...!!!
Right on thanks, yes the young feller chases me everywhere, he always tries to help out, dreads for the time to leave to go fishing though, little easier when their big enough to understand. Bout 120 meters or so ..!!!
What an operation! Never seen it done this way before, in "open tickles." Better know what you're doing that close to sea ice! What were you using for a firearm on this hunt? How cold was it that day? Around here clear = cold!
Thank you, mornings now is -10 or so warms up to about even through the day. Yes those tickles are dangerous, one mistake and its all over, I never travel on bad ice always keep checking, we have a lot of experience traveling on ice.
Hi William. If you have time I have a couple questions please. 1. What exactly is a tickle? Why called tickle? 2. What caliber rifle is that? How far a shot was that? 3. What kind of coveralls are those that you have? It seems like a lot of videos of guys in the north wear those. They must be warm. What does seal taste like? Is it fishy? It looks really good when you fix it. What kind of skinning knife was that(brand). Take care my friend. Hope all is well with you and your family. Jon LeCroy :)
wow ! great shooting. no seals here in new york but ive seen a few women that look like them. saw some seal meat on a cooking show up in newfoundland , looks awesome ! congratulations.
The only meat I like better than seal is caribou, I just finished a meal of caribou soup it was delicious. Seal though more so than anything else has to be cleaned & cooked proper but when done right make a fantastic meal. Thanks William ...!!!!
Going to make some later on but form the bearded seal, these ringed seals is mostly bones, the bearded is a nice chunky seal get lots of good meat ...!!!
nice, see one in the river yesterday driving home from work, mouth was watering then and now even more, rnc wouldn't like it if a shot off the 222 in the city or would they I wonder
Hard to beat a good meal of seal, very filling wont get hungry to quick after. I kid you not I had seal I think it was 6 outta seven days after that first hunt, man I was hungry for it, couple times was just liver and onions but man it was good ...!!!
THE BUSY BAYMEN KRIS RUMBOLT Very rarely, If I get a negative comment I just give them the facts, sometimes you get trolls just saying stupid stuff, don't fall for it they just try for a stupid comment back.
Now I wish those people trying to end the seal hunt and saying its barbaric could see this they don't realize that just because a seal is small doesn't mean it's a pup, very nice clean kill
Josh N Thank you for the comment, very much appreciated. Most against seal hunting only every see what the anti hunting groups put out, its filled with nothing but misleading information and straight out lies, they should be held accountable for what they say ...!!!
+heather hamil There are animals in this world that do need help but seals is not one of them, there are literally millions of seals, they are hunted humanly and very well utilized, sad part is all the propaganda about seals deflect attention away from the animals that really do need help. Shame on you, wake up......
William Larkham Jr do not play stupid how would you like to be clubbed and rot in hell you and your stupid friends are the ones killing seals you created this whole problem
Thank you, yes one mistake there and its all over, that was the 4th or 5th trip up to the tickle, seen 3 in the water there the one time when I was up with the kids, the old man was up in the morning when the sun was out more there were 10 there, there was a few on the ice but they were out farther still hard to get so he never bothered. Finally caught one in the right place, I would love to have a thermal camera up high over the ice just to see how many is actually there, they'll be getting up on the ice more from now on.
Most years 4 to 5 months, when a lot of ground breaks out or the ice is no longer good to travel on to get of the island then they bull the road ...!!!!
Was calm the next morning, variable winds in the afternoon, wish I knew more about how they judged the weather, he had a black bear skull as well, they may have compared the two at times, or something ...!!!
Very cool part of Canadian culture more people should see. You kill a seal and the only thing left behind is some guts and bloody snow. Total use of the resource, awesome!
Very true thank you, in this area seal was always a important animal to hunt, its pretty much the only big game animal we have, you have to wait 5 years or so for a moose licence, right now there's a ban on caribou hunting, even then they were difficult to get especially in the Southern regions. Growing up in remote communities the only fresh meat came from hunting, even now in some communities that rely on shipping food shortages are common, last spring was really bad because of the long cold winter freight boats were late getting in & I think this will be another troubling year for some communities. Freight can be flied in but it's very expensive, if more people seen the realities then maybe they be more supportive of hunting. Thanks again my friend I really appreciate the understanding, some will watch and still try make something different of it ...!!!
***** Sadly the Rural\Urban divide is widening as more people move to cities. There are probably those who think you have a Walmart on every 3rd block like they do....no grasp of the realities some people call life and choose to for good reason. I appreciate the video and encourage you to keep them coming regardless of the naysayers.
A 5 meal trip is always a good one, always good to see Jr. out learning the ways of life
Yes sir lots of good meat for the freezer, we have seal often through the summer especially on the boat. Yes he certainly has a interest for it, stuck to me like glue ...lol going to be tough leaving for fishing this year, hard when their at the age they don't understand ...!!!
Another successful hunt and food for the family. Good going
Thank you yes they are a fine eating seal, you get 5 to 6 meals from a seal like this, the liver especially outta this type of seal is fantastic. Thanks again William.

Thank you ... you have the best life ...May God continue to bless you.
Thank you for the kind words, may God bless you as well. Leaving tomorrow for a epic trip, 260 km ski doo for starters, hopefully get some kind of vid up in the next few days ...!!!

***** Thanks, if you ever gets a chance give it a try, very tasty and healthy to eat. Seal has to be cleaned and cooked proper but when done right makes a great meal, one of my favorites.
Nice to see buddy! The little William is having fun indeed!
Thanks Dave, he's stuck to me like glue, he got to be with me wherever I goes, he's daddys boy for sure ....!!!!

***** That is interesting, at least where you shot that one it didn't look too difficult to keep the meat clean and get cooled quick.
That's right, the fat is what you really got to be careful with, if the oil from the fat gets on the meat then it can get rancid kinda quick, you want to keep it chilled and trim well. I like to cover the seal in snow over night, next day its very firm, easy to trim the fat of..

Right on thanks, yes the young feller chases me everywhere, he always tries to help out, dreads for the time to leave to go fishing though, little easier when their big enough to understand. Bout 120 meters or so ..!!!
What caliber did you use
Kool video what kinda gun you using?
Ruger .223 in the intro, Tikka .223 to shoot the seal, made 4 or 5 trips up to the tickle before I got a good chance for one ..!!!
