What exactly is netball anyway? I've sort of seen it, but not really. I live in Canada, and the only time I've seen a bit of it was when they tried entering a team in the Commonwealth Games. Looks somewhat similar to basketball, but it doesn't seem like it.

It's a court based game with 3 zones with 7 players on each side and a hoop for each team. Players are given a designated position which can only enter certain zones with only two actually allowed to shoot and only two allowed to defend inside the scoring arc with the other 3 providing passing support. Players must pass within 3-5 seconds or turn over (no dribbling). Position defines access ; a Wing Attack (WA) for instance cannot enter the D (scoring arc) while a Goal Defender (GD) cannot cross into the opponent's half. This keeps the number of players in each part equal so no double teaming.
Shooting is unlike basketball where the defender has to be arm's length away and the shooter must stand still. A goal is scored when the ball passes through. The points are not multiplied with distance (in traditional formats) unlike basketball. All physical contact deemed extra counts as a foul. There is no limit although the umpire can caution players for overdoing it. Fouling an attacker in the D results in a free shot with no defense. As fouls happen most often here, netball scores at top level tend to be over 100
Australia and New Zealand are world powers in netball, and the sport is played in most Commonwealth member countries by girls in school.
