If you use Cream of Tartar instead of vinegar in your canning water, your lids won't rust, nor will you have the water scale on the outside of your jars.
I have rusty rings and have only used cream of tartar. The way to have rings not rust is to can with plain water and add vinegar to the water you wash the jars with after you take the rings off.
Like other commenters, I use Cream of Tartar in my canner's water. The rings don't rust, the jars don't get cloudy and the inside of my canner looks like new and it is ten years old.
Interesting. Sounds like something that should definitely be in a well stocked preserving kitchen. Price isn't bad, either considering that a box of lids with rings is $9.97 at our local Walmart. Suspect you should increase the number you keep in your stash. Thinking about those days when multiple canning loads are being done during harvest season. Especially considering the wait time before rings can be safely removed. How many loads of green beans or peas can you process process over a 12+ hour canning marathon? Then, add a few more boxes for backup. PS: Save those old rings, especially the ones in good shape. Lots of other uses for them, including putting a band on a gift jar of strawberry jelly. I use rings when storing jars of dehydrated, vac sealed, foods. If the seal fails, for some reason, the lid doesn't fall off.
Can you use these rings with regular Ball or Golden Harvest lids? The Amazon comments are leading me to believe that you can't and comments also state their lids aren't for canning.
When I went to that Amazon link, Amazon proposed two choices of stainless steel wide-mouth canning lids. Do you think they are worth the extra cost for some situations?
Just this weekend I saw PLASTIC rings at the Amish store. I wanted to ask one of them how they were but everybody was busy on Saturday. Anybody know anything?
If you don’t put vinegar in the water the lids won’t rust.. I have so many rings only a hand full ever rusted on me for all the years I have been canning..🫤
@@PrepperPotpourri ~I use to until we put in a water softener best thing we could have ever done! No more descaling coffee pot, shower heads, kitchen nozzles or cleaning a clogged water tank..I have been canning for 12 years and only just a few years ago put in the water softener unit..

You've just rid me of a headache lovely lady!

Thank you for this. I will try this because I have a bunch of rings. The vinegar does turn them.
Great idea! I never thought of this! I have really hard water and need to use something!
I also use cream of tartar to clean the inside of my canner.
How much cream of tartar do you put in your canning water?

Great idea! I would keep some of the older, nice-looking rings to give with gifts of jelly/jam, salsa, pickles, etc.
Looks like a great product. Thanks for sharing.
I can’t find there stainless steel rings and regular size. I only found them in wide size. Do they even make them in regular size?
Thank you for sharing these rings. I stopped your video to go purchase them immediately.
Let me know how you like them

Looks like those rings will work well!
Please do an update after a summer of canning please.
Will do

Thank you!
Sounds great!❤
LOL, Leisa is going to be so frustrated! Her rings could look like wedding rings forever...FYI, they aren't available on Canadian Amazon.
Sorry to hear that
Beautiful
How do they compare to the new JustJars rings?
I am not sure

Wel, I like the Trellis ones I bought. I am not sure what the other choice is.
@@PrepperPotpourri You bought stainless steel rings. Amazon suggested stainless steel lids.

I'm not sure. I have not seen plastic rings -- only plastic lids such as Tattler canning lids.
Too bad they don't make them in regular mouth size
There are other brands of stainless steel canning rings available on Amazon that come in the regular mouth size.
Anyone know of a Canadian source? Amazon will not ship to me and can't find them on the Canadian Amazon.
Sorry to hear that
How much cream of tartar you you add to a load?
I use a rounded to heaping teaspoonful. I buy mine at the bulk dept of Winco grocery store. It's way, way cheaper than in the spice aisle.
@@patti6194 Thanks for the tip...I've been buying pound bags of it on Amazon!
