I am so sorry to hear about Colin. I lost my nephew at the age of 45 to pancreatic cancer in 2021. I was devastated. I like you didn’t think a person his age would have stage 4 pancreatic cancer. He had one round of Chemotherapy. His life span from the time he was diagnosed was about one month. 😢. I pray your strength in Jesus.
My Mother was eventually diagnosed with pancreatic cancer after many visits to her unhelpful GP. She was "living" on Complan by this time, and he told her to go home and think about her family. An x-ray revealed gallstones, and at surgery the cancer was found also. After this it was only three months before we lost her. This was in 1981, and her less painful symptoms were present for twelve months before. After she died I chanced on a book about different cancers in the local library. The symptoms of pancreatic cancer matched hers perfectly. It was so sad that her GP was unable to recognise her disease.

Not surprised. I went to a GI "specialist" 6 years ago about chronic diarrhea. All he did was a colonoscopy and said everything was normal including bloodwork...."come back in 5 years". Insist on an MRI even if you have to pay out of pocket. Sometimes you have to bypass the quacks. So, I am 6 years behind(actually much longer) on treatment for a pnet.

It’s truly a silent killer..I think most people don’t think about pancreatic cancer…it’s always thought to be something else…Am sure Colin would be so very proud of you..Your story is so heartfelt..God bless you and your family
My goodness, when you say how much time matters, I just kept nodding my head. I recently lost my mother to what was believed to be ovarian cancer. She started having pain and digestive issues last March (or maybe even earlier). She had called her GP and they said they were booked out until July. They told her they didn't have any other doctors. So my mom took the July appointment, thinking it was just some weird digestive issue. The symptoms came and went. She finally had a huge problem with awful pain and vomiting one night, and went it. At that point, she had a bowel obstruction, and cancer had metastasized to her liver, spleen, pelvis...she died only a couple of days later. If she had gotten in earlier, maybe her outcome would have been the same...but maybe her death wouldn't have been so painful and awful, and she would have had time to talk to and see people she loved. She had NO idea when she went into the hospital that she would die in just 3 days. That time would have mattered so much to her, and to us! Thank you so much for sharing your story. You seem like such a lovely woman, and I'm so very sorry for your loss.
Sorry for the loss of your mother. I have lost four people that I knew well to pancreatic cancer. They all went down the same downhill path, very quickly, with nothing to be done, so it's possible that the lapse in your mother's treatment wouldn't have made a difference. I hope that in the near future there will be a test or screening for earlier detection. Take care.

My husband was diagnosed twoweeks ago after his bile duct blocked and he was very jaundiced. He has had the same symptoms as Colin, the back pain, the feeling of 'fulnes, the diarhea, the constipation, the home cures. I kept thinking that it was Pancratic cancer as we had seen his sister with the same symptoms. The doctor prescribed pills and more pills for every symptom. he had three surgeries on his back in 18 months, but no one picked up on the cancer. Yes, time matters. We have now a very good doctor and a stent has opened his bile duct, he seems better ..at the moment. Meanwhile we pray and hope that there is time .....he sees an oncologist tomorrow. I wish these trying little symptoms would be taken more seriously early on. No pills, no home cures, just a scan with dye will show up an abnormality early on. Susan, that was an extremely helpful interview. Thank you.
My Mam was blocked bile duct and stent didn’t work she had big operation and chemo and died all to much for her.l worry as I had blocked bile duct and pancreatitis and sepsis second time,Dr asked how much are you drinking.I said I don’t drink maybe once in blue moon. It was gallstones that had moved and blocked ducts.Over year later gallbladder removed but I’m still sickly and it’s always at back of my mind will it be pancreas.xx❤

@@elliegoldie6140 get a comple liver enzyme work up...give all the symptoms...jaundice..urine is dark..stool chgs color & floats...walking & standing problems..breathing diffficulties.severe pain in stomach...severe back pain..ur bile duct hist..sepsis..you must insist on this ...get a cat scan...make sure your doctor works with u... after gall bladder is removed more problems can emerge...watch ur diet...NO sugar..processed food..flour...bread pasta..artifical preservstives..NO VEG OILS.only coconut oil..olive oil....real butter...they are recognizing hereditary factors..pesticides...fake ingredients ...etc..nor just ( Cigarettes a big factor & alcohol) FAST FOODS ..SODAS..FRUCTOSE..SUCTOSE..ARTIFICAL SWEETNERS...the worse part there are sm children and young people developing pancreatic cancer. It's wicked prevent it with diet..

This is so sad that she didn’t hear anything for weeks!!! My brother had stage 4 neuroendocrine cancer and went to moffit and they refused him treatment and he was also refused treatment from md anderson. All this time he is flying to these different states not feeling well while his wife stayed at home with their kids. “The system” is heartless in this way.
So sad. I'm so sorry. Your husband received poor medical care. No excuse for him to be in such pain for so long without medical intervention. Prayers to you and your family.
This is the most awful healthcare experience. My sincere condolences go out to this family.
I can relate to your story too.I lost both my daughter aged 10 and grandson aged 19 to Ewings bone cancer.Both had had accidents and both were diagnosed far to late after being wrongfully diagnosed with complaints such as Sciatica ,running pains ect.Both we’re woken at night with pain and both slept a lot.Time was of the essence.I’m not suggesting the outcome might have been different,but I feel very strongly that getting diagnosed sooner would have helped especially getting the pain relief.There is nothing worse than watching a loved one suffering in pain and you are unable to help,so yes TIME MATTERS.I am so sorry for your loss,I think you are an amazing strong woman and I completely support you and wish you all the very best and thank you for sharing your story xxx
Time did matter. You had to spend so much time chasing down tests and care. So sorry you all had to go through this.
Thanks for sharing your story, Susan. Compared to other types of cancer, there seems to be so little information out there about pancreatic cancer and it doesn't seem to be a potential diagnosis at the forefront for consideration by many GPs. An early scan may well have picked up your husband's condition at an earlier stage and, though it might not have impacted his prognosis, it would have allowed for more timely and effective input from the palliative care teams.

It’s a disgrace. Just even having pancreatitis many hospitals and doctors don’t know how to treat.
My children’s father had a very similar start of his cancer story. The 2 doctors after his endoscopy pulled up chairs and I also KNEW - not good news. He ended up with neuroendocrine pancreatic cancer but his liver was full of lesions, inoperable. He was diagnosed in August 2016 and passed on June 14th, 2020 at 7:50am, 8 days shy of his 55th birthday.

So sorry Susan that you went through so much ! I felt so angry for you about some of the things that happened in your journey.
I have a similar story for my mum. The GP used to treat her like she was imagining the pain … I was actually in an appointment with mum where she was told .. “pain is just part getting old .. you just have to be strong “ !! 😡
When . Mum finally got the diagnosis it was only because she fell and broke her hip and the scan showed some masses so they did some more investigation.

These are Doctors and they are trained to recognise the symptoms of pancreatic cancer … what is wrong with them !!!! The way my mum was told was a nightmare … I won’t go into the details but I could not believe the lack of compassions and utter cruelty when she was told … and she was such a beautiful loving soul … she forgave them … I am still getting there 😡.

I'm so sorry for you and your husband and family. I hope you all find peace. Sometimes with all of the advances and high tech treatment available, the one thing missing is the human connection. Nobody should be forgotten or fall through nthe cracks when they are so sick. The waiting for pain relief for a week is ridiculous.
So sorry to hear about your husband and how you were let down by the hospital.
The guy was dying of cancer I don't see how the hospital let them down there was nothing that could be done.
steve morro It took over a week to get him the pain medication for relief which is why he had to spend his last Christmas in the hospital instead of being home with his family. One week to get the medication you need to be home is pretty poor care, I would say.

I’m glad u were able to share your story I’m so sorry for your loss. Both my mum and myself had cancer different kinds and we both felt the MacMillan nurses were not there for us either. Unfortunately my cancer has been cleared but my mums cancer has returned and we are under no illusion that the MacMillan nurses won’t be there to support us in any way.

Pancreatic cancer is difficult to detect. My dad went into Craigavon with bad nausea and they thought he had a gallbladder stone. Next day, scans showed cancer in pancreas, liver and lungs. In fact the liver was riddled with tumours. Dead within two weeks. It seems that pancreatic cancer shows few symptoms until it’s too late.
My sister was 35 but it hits hard because there so young

It was April 2020 and we were in the beginning of our covid lockdown. My mom called me that she was yellow and her doctor told her to get to the ER. Because of covid I had to wait in the car. I expected to see her walk out with a prescription and we would go home. The doctor called me and said they found a mass coming out of the head of the pancreas. I remember saying that's a death sentence. They had to put a stent in because the tumor was blocking the bile duct.
We tried chemo but her numbers kept going up. The tumor was blocking the duodenum and they put another stent in.
We had her 9 months before we had to say goodbye.
We miss her more every day.
Stupid cancer
Why didn't they just remove that part of the pancreas? People get lucky when it grows in the head of the pancreas cause it can be moved faster.

My favourite uncle (also called Colin) died of Pancreatic cancer when he was just 48 (I was 14). That was in October 1991. It’s so so sad that we’re not that much further forward with effective treatments / a cure! The treatment (or lack of, in this case) is horrendous!!!
I am so sorry. I think I have pancreatic cancer. I have IDPM in my ducts. I have a lesion on my liver and nodule on my adrenal gland. I am tired, I get full quickly, I have pain in my back and shoulder. I have pain after I eat. I have diarrhea and constipation with very oily stools. I weigh 130 lbs and rarely eat anything with fat. I am also a survivor of Breast Cancer 9 years ago. I have to go back to my oncologist next month. They keep telling me I am fine so I think why should I go back to be just to be told your fine. I am so sorry this happened to you and your family. You have my deepest condolences. I am sorry for your loss and heartache. God bless your family.

My husband was diagnosed in May 2012, and sadly died in July 2014, it's such a difficult Cancer to diagnose, but the doctors did say that anyone who develops type 2 diabetes and has it long term has got to watch out for symptoms like not being able to eat do much and losing weight and feeling tired, my husband got all of these, but like most men would not see the doctor.

Sorry and sad for your loss. I had whipple procedure a year ago . Technically I didn't have pancreatic cancer but was treated for it. I had ampullary tumour. I have researched lots and it really troubles me to know that 50% of pancreatic cancer patients don't get prescribed any enzymes. They are literally left to starve to death. I hope early detection happens quick. I have known many people who have died soon after diagnosis.
Describe what scar you have from the procedure, I’m going to have the same procedure.

I’m so very sorry for your incredible loss.
My aunt was totally fine and then we noticed she was getting darker and her stomach was bigger than her body. She said she is also feeling bloated, and she needs to check with her endocrinologist. She had diabetes too. So, at the age 48, after two weeks of weird symptoms, she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, and she died within six months. That trauma, seeing her dying like this, was too much

My ex husband Collin also passed away with pancreatic cancer. The gps failed him too. He was suffering for a whole year n it was only by chance that his brother’s friend who is a doctor gave him a scan n found a mass n it was stage four by then.

I was diagnosed with pancan in late December 2021, my NHS healthcare trust in Lincolnshire have literally thrown everything at me in the hope of finding a cure they are fantastic, but unfortunately it was not to be as this horrible cancer has invaded my portal vein and nothing will shift it, but I'm far from alone only five in every 100 pancan sufferers are still alive 5 years after there initial Pancreatic cancer diagnoses, what a terrible statistic.

Hi Susan thank you for sharing and so sorry for your Loss. My story is similar in the timing element as it took 1 month for the doctors to diagnose him and then he died 4 weeks from the diagnosis. The doctors said they were 80% that it was colon cancer but he also had tumors on the pancreas so the pancreas tumor marker showed up. It was also adenocarcinoma and he got so ill that the doctors never did a colonoscopy. They said his bile duct got blocked as the cancer spread so fast and his liver then kidneys failed. Till now I’m not able to understand what happened from a medical standpoint but time was also so important .
I am sorry for your loss and suffering.
It sounds like your husband was already in stage 4 cancer when diagnosed, so your husband had metastasis in different regions of the body. At that point, 1 month doesn't make a difference in the sense of a potential healing. If it was pancreatic cancer, the chances are incredibly small to survive in general. Colon cancer has better statistics, but only discovered in the first stages.
Still, it would be important for you and your family to have more clarity, not only for your emotional healing, but also for your future health. Close relatives should always be informed in order to avoid or prevent something like this happening again. Particularly in cases of colon cancer, 1st grade relatives (parents, sisters, brothers, children) should have anual check-ups, including anual colonoscopies.

My sister died at age 44 from pancreatic cancer. It was a long, extremely painful death. Less than a year but it seemed like years. She also could sleep or lean back. She slept sitting up bent over a pillow.

The joys of socialized medicine!
Socialized medicine is still better than the American for-profit healthscam system. Can doctors be wrong? Yes. But I'd rather get to see a doctor at all rather than not have health insurance or lose my coverage because my employer closed down.
I can't get to see a doctor! Ive been waiting 2 months now for my 'urgent ' referral AND I have paid into the national insurance scheme for 31 years plus all the taxes I have paid. At least in the US you get to choose to pay in or not. And if you do pay in you get seen.
Time does matter and our NHS is an absolute joke.

The NHS is crippled paying extortionate rent to the 'private partners' who invested in rebuilding some of the older hospitals. Not nearly enough of the NHS money actually goes into frontline healthcare and that is the main reason the quality keeps going down.

I lost a friend to pancreatic cancer. He was only 41. He didn't live a year after diagnosis.
My god I would hate to be diagnosed with Pancan in Northern Ireland, the HHS over there is obviously lacking.

Hospital and doctors need to pay more attention to this cancer. Its rare but not impossible. Cancer dont care about age, sex, or what you believe in. Dont think its anxiety. You know your body. Push push push

At 7.51 - Medics really do need to talk in plain language. I think they get so used to all the terminology and acronyms every day and forget that this is a foreign language to most people. We had a nurse visit my 86 year old Dad recently and she kept saying "I'll speak to the OT, have a word with Rehab, you'll see one of the DN's"! He was absolutely baffled! 7:51
This is weird to write.
but I am 100% convinced I have late stage pancreatic cancer that has spread to my brain (and maybe other parts)
First obvious sign.. Last february I contacted the healthcare as I have noticed that I had to pee more and go up in the night to pee.
Then secondary is the change in bowel habits.. I had more often diarre. Third wieght lose from he summer untill now.
Then the obvious.. almost 4 weeks ago started the slight abdominal pain.. now diabetic syndroms.. think I have weeks to live.. I will go to healthcare today and bang on the drum. I noticed a lump in the back of my head this saturday..
I have a 4 and 7 year old kid.. I am crush,, have not sleept probably in the last two weeks. Nobody in my family can believe it since I have not have a formel diagnosis. Not coming into work.
I am probably more in a risk group due to a earlier occupation ,,(did work with radioactivity as a phD student)
So anybody out there..
Know your body.. If you have a change in bowel habits or peeing habits,, and keep track of weight.. react immidiately.. Monitor your blood sugar.. I did not know my "normal" fasting value.. I got a value of 5.7 last april.. (but that is within normal range).. I will say that if you are a fit healthy man, start testing your fasting blood sugar value once every two weeks.
The increased urin production should have been investigated much more.. Say I was diagnosed last april.. Then I might have had a greater chance for survival.. now I am dead in weeks. Should have reacted to any changes due to my past.
Now i have an aggressive brain tumor (i am 100% convinced).. I am not sure when the change in bowel movement happened,, but probably aslo at least a year or since january 2023..
Pancreatic cancer is by far the most deadly cancer as it is fairly "silent" and when detected spread to other parts of the body..

Do you think if the Hospital & or the referral would have moved quicker, your husband would have had more hope ? My husband has Multiple Myeloma, however he has had pain around his middle for about 2 1/2 months & the Doctors just keep passing him to another doctor. I am thinking he may have pancreatic Cancer ? I am call a Doctor tomorrow to have him scooped. We just don’t know what else to do.

Crazy! It almost doesn’t matter where in the world you are, most doctors always initially brush away issues especially pancreatic issues, it’s like it’s rare that they don’t think about it, but also not rare with how high cars are !

Living in America the choice of life and death treatment is being controlled by the insurance companies more and more. My wife passed from breast cancer at 51 fifteen years ago. Without supplement insurance twenty percent or more would come out of your pocket. It appears national insurance has a lot to be desired in your country as well. I would of loved to of sent my wife to best doctors and hospitals in america but insurance companies would say they are out of our network i to am a nurse and seeing your spouse dieing is a different level of grief knowing what we know in our training. It took me 10 years to finally stop grieving and start enjoying the memories and be both parents to my 3 children and grandparent to the grand children. Cancer robs us of the life we thought we were going to live. Myself if cancer would invade me-palliative and hospice would be my choice. No matter what possible could be offered by oncologist i would choose not for sure but I'm not in my forties or fifties I'm in the late 60s. Living with loss but never forgotten 😊
I have chronic pancreatitis. In awful pain with all the symptoms of cancer. My GP is doing nothing about it. I'm suffering and nobody seems to care. I've asked for tests to be done to see if it is cancer but yet again nobody is listening to me. I live in Cork.
Hope ur ok. U can get a MRI by a few outside companies and also a cancer blood screening test called "galleri" if you are worried.
My husband is suffering right now and we don’t know what is going on .. he has had severe diarrhea for over here extreme weight, loss, and loss of appetite. He is a kidney transplant. Patient of 12 years now. she has had a lower colonoscopy and a MRI without contrast., that is part of the issue is he cannot get contrast to get a good image. We are hoping for a ERCP scan of the pancreas, but insurance is not allowing us to do so until he gets an endoscopy first of the upper colon.. it’s been one year fighting with the doctors and he is scheduled for an endoscopy and January 2023 then they will consider the ERCP of the pancreas and possibly April… I don’t know what to do what testing did anyone do to discover issues? He has had his gallbladder removed and also had a really bad thought of pancreatitis three years ago.

How did "socialized medicine" get it wrong? Socialized medicine means people who otherwise rot in the gutter would actually get to be seen, and not spit on because they can't afford it. If I pay taxes to support a bloated military, I have no issue paying for people to have basic care. The America VA is socialized medicine for vets. Do you condemn that? Medicaid is socialism. Medicare is socialism.
I just love people who see these bad outcomes and seem so giddy with joy to make the claim that socialized medicine is bad. Check your self and have some respect.

Hi, 4 months ago I had my first cancer Removed on top of my right kidney, was 1.8 cm RCC grade 2.
