Typed this comment out before I finished listening, I'm definitely more confident in his interest to give this a whirl, but either way:
Frank's MMA career plummetted once he decided to jump from 240 to needing to cut to 265.
He was known to be the best heavyweight submission artist in UFC history, then decided to play into the strengths of every stand-up artist he faced because of his 'new-found power.'
He dumped Kongo, Todd Duffee, but was never the same fighter or able to find openings against the creme of the crop.
Seeing Frank so bulky, especially after his PED suspension, really bums me out.
He was my favorite martial artist of all-time, and battling back from a "career-ending injury" when he tore his knees up in a motorcycle accident as the youngest world champion, only to battle back to the top; a story that is largely forgotten by the casual MMA world.
He's a remarkable voice, tremendous commentator, and one of the best in his division to compete. That said, I hope his heart is in wrestling and it's not him trying to prolong a career when he's no longer deemed a contender. I don't want to see one of my favorites get broken down and rundown by father-time.

As well as guys like Couture, Ricco Rodriguez and Josh Barnett, but only the last two were actual heavyweights. Couture was able to win that championship against people 60 pounds heavier than him because of how few of the heavyweights had top level skills then - just like Shamrock had done back in his prime. And Barnett had that issue with a drug test and took off for Japan, so he didn't have the great impact on UFC back then that Mir did.

I remember Frank Mir controversially won the first fight with Lesnar, handily lost the second, and people completely wrote Mir off. Then Mir refocused on weightlifting, packed on an insane amount of muscle, and called Lesnar out for a third match. I actually wanted to see what a bigger Mir would have been able to do against Lesnar. Too bad it never happened.

Frank has a better chance as a slimmer fighter against Brock. You don't go strength for strength with Brock. Or he will make you look bad.

@@ZBOXINGTALK To me it was controversial because Lesnar was dominating the ground and pound, the blow to the back of Mir's head looked unintentional, and referee Steve Mazzagatti is universally thought of as the worst MMA ref ever.
Mir's finish was unquestionable, but Mazzagatti's handling of the situation was. If Lesnar had been verbally warned, but allowed to cotinue in ground and pound position, then Lesnar would likely have won the fight. Just my opinion. If you disagree, then so be it.

I totally with him about that WWE thing. As he said, as long as he is respectful to hardworking newcomers,he should do a match here and there. (And PLEASE keyfab knock Brock out!!) He seems like a pretty nice and charismatic guy should be fun to watch. And he should get the money he would have deserved of UFC! (...maaaybe a tiny tiny bit more 😉)

Old-school MMA fan here. Been watching since UFC 7, the Brawl in Buffalo when I was 8 years old.
I respect Frank Mir greatly, and remember watching live when he armbarred Roberto Traven in a minute at UFC 34, one of the most memorable debuts in UFC history.
That being said, I could only listen to about 8 minutes of Frank's self-aggrandizing bullshit before I had to stop the interview.
Frank trying to explain away his last two losses was pathetic enough. Mir didn't lose to Fedor because he fought any differently than his previous 30-odd fights before then. He lost because his striking is worse and much slower, and while he scored an early knockdown since Fedor's chin is completely gone, it wasn't enough.
And his excuses for losing to Javy Ayala is even worse. It's not a "freak injury" when you get hit in the mouth and you suffer a mouth injury. Frank looked completely awful in that outing, with pathetic cardio, and was losing badly when he tapped out due to injury.
However, the part that caused ME to tap out was Mir claiming he had some kind of amazing genetics that allow him to be really quick into his 40s.
Mir was NEVER fast. Even in his mid-20s, before he idiotically shattered his femur and knee in a motorcycle accident, he was always rather lumbering, slow, and heavy. Nowadays, he looks like he is wading through mud.
Related to this, I laughed my ass off at Mir playing up his "Cuban" heritage.
Mir's father was BORN in Cuba, but his actual racial heritage is Moroccan and Russian. Mir doesn't look remotely Cuban in any way, either.

Always interesting to hear real fighters making the transition into pro wrestling and them realising how challenging it is, it’s a real art form in itself. There is more to it than fake punches and that’s why a lot of us die hard wrestling fans love it as we know how much goes into not just a match but a whole show
