In my opinion, one of the greatest scenes in film history! The power and sincerity that Burgess Meredith gives to this scene is magnanimous! Thank you so much for a great film career, Mr. Meredith...RIP.
💯
Very true
Looking at now I agree
I like how Mickey told Rocky that Adrian was a good girl.
I always looked at Mickey as an Angel. He even references himself as such in later movies and Rocky does too. In this moment Mickey is saying something we are all thinking as an audience. He’s letting him know the stakes and he knows it’s only a once in a lifetime. In Rocky’s case, a second shot. They could have left this scene out and had Mickey come in later. But the fact that Mickey stuck with Rocky and prayed with him just shows you he really was the Angel on his shoulder.
I love BM's voice
Always recognizable!
Their relationship reminds me so much of my grandpa and me. I miss him dearly everyday
This what I love about older cinema, the use of real places for scenes or built sets. Nowadays that church scene would’ve just been a blue screen with two actors. When you hear Mick walk you can hear his footsteps against the hard wood floor and when he talks his voice echos throughout the church. You get fully immersed in this scene because that what it would sound like if someone was walking and talking through a small empty church
Great point. Modern cinema is so sterile. The art is replaced by the dollar.
This is the kind of person America needs more of Tough Love!
I get chills when I see this scene.
Rocky will do everything for Adrian
Don't want me mixing with creed no more lol, do one thing for me, win, what our we waiting for places lol
Why don't u get up and fight this guy hard like before that was beautiful lol
He fought because he knew adrian was well at that point, he knew he could give it his all
Why don't u stand up and fight this guy hard like before that was beautiful
Unfortunately
I play this for my son for the upcoming wrestling season. I told him this is exactly how I feel and that he needs to get going already!
How did it go?
How he do bro??
Quel magnifique passage tout ça a cause de Paulie....pauvre Adrian,j'en ai pleuré quand elle se réveille
Superb acting.
Mick ❤👍🏼
I watch thing every Friday night when I hit the pub
I play this scene for my son for his upcoming wrestling season. To let him know that guys he’s beat and gotten beaten by are coming for him
I think Mick picked this moment to talk to Rocky, as he could see he would sink lower and lower and even give up his life if Adrian didn't wake up. Great affection between these two...
😅
I don't wanna get mad in a biblical please... Cute
Rocky 2 is extremely underrated
I like this one a lot. Might be the best of the franchise.
My second favorite of the franchise.
We all need a micky
Another shot at a title over and over
1 time lucky bum, lol, why don't u get up and fight this bum hard like u done before it was beautiful
This is Mickey fighting at his old age, he ain’t gotta fight physical fights anymore, he has to fight his prime and ego the first time to reach out to Rocky but this time he shows love for Rocky who is grieving for his wife, his love and a child. He was showing him compassion, truth and love which he hasn’t in a long time and it’s keeping him alive.
To be honest, he still is, it was kind of tough sarcastic kind of love, but that’s just the way Mickey was rough around the edges, but still cared at the end of the day
Mickey was like a father to him he had no father mick was protecting him
"I dont want to get mad in a Biblical place like this!" Micky was Jewish! Shalom
Still
That's why he said "Biblical Place". Keep in mind that the Catholic Bible includes Maccabees.
Great acting...
He wants to prove to the whole world you was nothing but a freak the first time out! Fluke but the point is taken, Mick. 😅
As great as Burgess was here, we can’t ignore Stallone. He didn’t say anything and didn’t move a muscle. Yet he gave such a powerful performance in this scene.
Brilliantly said. I've always thought that this was one of Stallone's strongest scenes, from ANY film. As you said, he just sits there, doesn't speak....and yet, there's a couple of moments where you see expressions on his face that I don't believe I've seen...and I've seen all of his movies multiple times...
Stay Prayed Up, Burt Young (Paulie) 🙏 💐 REST IN PEACE BURT
Leave out the final shot? Cruel.
Scena che sintetizza la morale del film il senso della continuità
Ringrazio vivamente per la gentile gradita e graziosa condivisione io sono Solidale caratterialmente poiché Rochy nel suo vigore ha dimostrato il suo coraggio ruggente
A great Speech
😢
Beautiful
Burgess Meredith is freaking awesome in this scene. I had tears in my eyes by the end of the scene. Very underrated movie.
if you have god on your side nothing can stop you
Wilder had god on his side, n got his face knocked in......
Love mickey such a inspiring man who should bless us all with inspiration
GIGA MICKEY
Stand up and fight this guy hard like you did before that was beautiful. Just one of many great lines in part 2 which for my money all in all was just as good if not superior to 1. The underdog is still an underdog and if anything has the odds stacked against him even more so with a fired up Apollo out for blood to secure his legacy and a bad eye the final fight is much better and brutal than the first film. Training montage is near top Rocky caliber inspiring and the characterization was done well for everyone showing there are more levels to Rocky than just a really tough underdog fighter with nothing to lose.
Burgess Meredith was a wonderful actor, my God
Rocky is worried sick about Adrian's condition and losing lots of sleep over it.And all Mick wants to do is talk about the rematch that's coming up and tell Rocky how he needs to fight Creed.Really Mick? The fight is the last thing on Rocky's mind he's much more focused on his wife at that moment and doesn't need any distractions about the fight! I know Mick means well but he should put the fight to the side and just support Rocky for Adrian's sake.
You missed the point of the entire scene. Despite Adrian’s condition, Rocky needed to hear what Mickey said. And if you listen again from the beginning of his speech, Mickey said he was only going to say what he had to say one time. That was it. After he was done, Mickey showed his love, compassion and support for Rocky and stayed with him until Adrian was ok. So not only did Mickey tell Rocky what he needed to hear in the form of tough love, but he also showed that he was behind Rocky 100% no matter what he decided by staying with him.
@@pewterngold You didn't need to write me a whole story of what I already know I've seen.I seen this movie countless times and I know what I said.I know Mickey is with Rocky 100% but he could've saved the subject of fighting for later. That was not time to focus on a boxing rematch.
@@michaelvaladez3012 obviously I did need to tell you because you still miss the point and depth of Mickey’s speech. You obviously don’t understand the character of Mickey because the delivery by Burgess Meredith was perfect. Anything outside of that wouldn’t have worked for the scene , movie and the ongoing relationship between Rocky and Mickey.
@@pewterngoldnext time write in all caps for him
I saw them all and to me Rocky 2 was the best one, Stallone said he wasn't too thrilled with it but I have to totally disagree with him
Stallone's opinions shift with the wind, or whoever he's speaking to at the time...give him a day or two and he'll see things your way...
Rocky II is a really great film. It has the grit and magic of the first film. Rocky III is fun but a bit more fantasy oriented. Rocky IV is Rambo in boxing trunks, my least favorite of the series. Rocky V has its moments. Rocky Balboa is really good.
"I dont want to get mad in a biblical place like this"........ :)
