      @robbiekenyon1267 I don't think that's true. But even if it was. It would be due to better circumstances for the sport overall, advancements in technology, and the legacy of the older generation. Think about when these guys were growing and played basketball wasn't the most popular sport, nor was it something everyone was aiming for since childhood. Think how good they could be if they were trained to play since childhood every day and had modern workout methods it would be scary what they could do. I hate it when people try to make this a one to one comparison without context.
      The game's changed depending on preferences that's a good or a bad thing. Scoring in the NBA is prioritized over anything else, which for some makes it feel cheaper and like defense is handicapped and stats mean less. 🤔

    Only difference between the eras is the rule changes and tendencies of shots. If todays players got used to the rules of the 80s/90s, their handles, three point shots, and their own physicality would translate. Early generation players’ defensive games would be effectively scrubbed. They couldnt pack the paint, hand check, touch a person period when they take a shot. They would have to completely change their style of play. Todays players wouldnt have to change nearly as much. I agree with KG in the fact that he said players wouldnt survive the atmosphere, which is 100% correct. The consistant need to be on the court, staying connected with the team, push through small injuries like isiah thomas on one leg, or scotty pippen with his back. They had a tougher fighting spirit in most teams resulting in less games missed per season per player and so on. These teams were so cohesive in that they would fight for each other as we saw multiple times like malice at the palace and so on. I think superstars are less team oriented now and mostly care about their personal brand rather than their teams and working with them for a goal. Of course there are exceptions to this for both eras like Michael Jordan being very self centered and against his team at the beginning of his career or steph curry and what he had done for GSW as a team and as a franchise being one of the most unselfish players in nba history in my opinion. Ok enough curry glaze. Altogether, the tougher culture of the 90s is a harder culture to adapt to, and the more skilled and developed modern game is a harder game to adapt to 😌

    • @johndavis9321
      @johndavis9321 3 месяца назад +3

      I mostly agree with your take but just like the newer players bein able to adapt to the past eras a lot of players of the past would benefit greatly from this new era where the game is a lot more wise open three point shooting is more emphasized and pg's are allowed to shoot and try and score whenever they feel like so it works both ways also I don't see how the new gens handle translates when damn near half the dribble moves in their "bag" are called travels, carries, palming, etc. back in the 90's

    honestly the thing that makes this convo irrelevant is the rule changes like seriously go back and watch a few championship games not highlights actual games you can see they was calling everything a travel and carry now those rules dont exist AI was getting cooked on every call cause his handles was to good they was shocked love the video

    • @johndavis9321
      @johndavis9321 3 месяца назад

      And that's what new fans all but refuses to include when we have these convos the game was so so much different back in the day because as you stated the rules were called a lot tighter like half the dribble/attack moves you see today you wouldn't have seen back in the day because they were considered a violation of some sort how do these new school players react when that step back into a small back pedal, or that dribble move where their hand goes completely under the ball, or the "gather" step are all not available to them as their now considered turnovers?? I say a lot of these dudes y'all ride like nobody in the 90's could deal wit him he'd be a monster if he played back then would get exposed playin under 90's rules

    Russell today you're talking about Rudy Gobert level best rim protector and rebounder in the league, with like Sabonis/Embiid level of passing as a big, and great in transition. He's top 10 for sure at least. Alright nvm the Jerry West disrespect is way worse. "Little guard" dude is taller than Steph, Dame, Brunson, Maxey, Trae. Dude had five straight All-Defense selections, four first team. And was an incredible shooter regularly hitting outside shots without the line there. Playstyle actually pretty comparable to Kobe, but a better passer and a few inches shorter. On Stockton and Pierce, a lot of these are just not acknowledging their defense. TJ McConnel ain't never scratch miles within five all-defense picks. Pierce is a two way wing who can shoot, any team would love him in 2024.

    This convo is extremely inane.Where do the 90's finish and the "new era" begins? Pierce, Garnett, Bryant and Iverson where partly in a "post-90s" era that begun before 2000, when travels and carries became more tolerated (look at Pierce highlights, he carries all the time) - from then, "ball handle" had to change, accommodating what was then allowed to do, meaning that it's not that those before couldn't do it, but weren't allowed, so not anyone beside MJ and Kobe having skills or a left hand before 1998 (Ant's take) is simply unrealistic to argue. So in fact the whole era comparison should NOT revolve around best players, would they wouldn't they survive and still be greats, but role players, 6th men, not-star-starters, were they that bad? And no, they weren't. Steve Kerr? 90's role player, could handle and shoot, would improve his stats in today's game. Vinny del Negro, Sean Elliot, Kenny Smith (yes, that Kenny Smith), Jeff Hornacek, Marciulionis, Dell Curry, Wesley Person, Nick Anderson, Dana Barros, BJ Armstrong, Kendall Gill, Mookie Blaylock, Hershey Hawkins, I could go on and on, these guards were all but bad skilled, but since most of then weren't flashy, no one younger knows them, and seing stats and ppg you class them erroneously as weak and "not surviving". The bigs? It's even worse, because players like Smits, Ostertag, Divac, Sam Perkins, Moses Malone Olden Polynice, Matt Geiger were known to know how to shoot and pass but were made fun of, because they were too "weak" in the post to compete athletically against Shaq. The changes of game and rules would have made them better. Let's be true, look at the famous 96 Jazz-Rockets 6th playoff game where Stockton shot bricks and collects turnovers the first half to rally the charge the second one, this first half Ostertag leads the Jazz until injured, and Hornacek does not take all the 3s he can (when he takes them, he scores) even when open clearly because he was asked not to. It's not a skill standpoint. In today's reality, both would have even greater an asset. All takes comparing then and now are relying on lack of knowledge of game, training, and human versatility: people would have translated to another era whatever needed, and would have worked on what they would have had to. Stars may not have been the same, but you'd still have other ones to replace them.

    • @johndavis9321
      @johndavis9321 3 месяца назад

      All facts and not one opinion new fans just don't understand basketball was very different back in the day from how rules were enforced too which player archetypes were popular it's an almost nonsensical practice to take players who played in a different era when the overall philosophy on basketball was way different and plop them in a different era where the philosophy on basketball again is just much different and in the same breath it is nonsensical to take players today as is plop them in a past era where rules were enforced differently team structure was different etc. and just expect them to dominate because "huurrr playas todae r jus 2 advance"
