Alister, I really appreciate your humility and honesty in sharing the arc of your emotions as well as your thought processes over the course of this day on the beach under pretty uninspiring conditions. I’ve watched scores of your videos, yet this one in particular hooked me. It was so easy to identify with the struggle to develop an engaging conversation with a landscape that on this day is deeply introverted. Oh, and then to discover that within your voluminous pack there is only one spare battery, and it is discharged. Many of us would have given it up at that point and headed for the pub to start drinking early. You persisted, got the landscape to answer, and came away with some moments of satisfaction and some lovely images. Therein lies the lesson.
Thank you so much for your thoughtful and encouraging comment. It means so much to me when people really get what I am trying to do here. A simple thank you feels inadequate. ❤️
I replayed the end of your video, closed my eyes and listened. It certainly wasn't just ramblings on camera, it was inspiring and really resonates with how I feel about photography. And those last few images are beautiful. Thank you Alister for your thoughtful content.
Beautiful shots , Alister, thanks a lot! I think the one with the redish rock in the foreground could work even without the oceanwater in the upper half. It shows such beautiful colors and geometric textures. I love the atmospheric pictures of waves, sand and sky as well.
I appreciate your videos so much because they are filled with honesty about feelings, failures, successes, etc. Everyone experiences days like you described and it’s comforting to know that we are not alone in that experience. There is a lyric in a song that I hold on to. It brings be comfort and calm just when I need it most. The lyric is: “Some days are diamonds, some days are rocks”. Thanks for sharing another inspiring video with more amazing images.
I very much enjoyed your soliloquy at the end of the video…as you say you were speaking to yourself articulating your own thoughts…It just happened to be recorded. It also brought back to me something you have said in the past, particularly setting the scene at the beginning of the video. You summed up the mood and atmosphere of the place and these adjectives should almost be noted down prior to the commencement of any photography as a basis for expression. Good stuff! Thank you.
Personally for me, for those powerful strong waves, shooting faster shots gives more of a message. Would've loved to see those tall peeks crashing, vs slow running water that has no story.
Thanks Alister, the pale green water and sand at 20:30 was a splendid shot. As you said, it seemed to blend the mood of the weather and your own state of mind/emotion. That is a message to remember for me. Thanks!
I always find great pleasure in watching your videos! Besides loving your photos I appreciate that when you are taking photos “the whole you” is present, even if it’s not one of the best days mentally or weather wise (hope you understand what I mean, not always easy expressing in an other language). Thank you for sharing beautiful landscapes, photos and knowledge!
Loved this video Love your relaxed style and your open attitude It’s a bit contagious!!!! Loved your images especially the beautiful soft ones at the end Can’t wait till your next video 😊
Alister thank you for an inspiring video, you have shown if you can switch off life's distractions there are fabulous images to be found everywhere. You post processed images were very sympathetic to the day, i am working my way through the dodge and burn course and it is helping me tremendously.
It was not disjointed at all. I think the way you presented this supported the theme... "intuition".... It seemed like a wonderful day. Assuming those were your final edits, I was inspired by the minimalist processing. Thanks....
Love description of your internal dialogue. It’s really quite helpful!

That high-key image with the cool/warm tones at 18:58 works for me, I could stare at that a long time.
Excellent ideas for photography ❤️

Liked the new sign off. You confirm that it should always be the journey.

Thanks Nick and sorry for the slow reply. I really appreciate all your feedback and kindness.

Hi Alister
I have a question
Is the summer also a good time for photography in Scotland? Especially Isle of skye /Lewis?
It was not disjointed at all. I think the way you presented this supported the theme... "intuition".... It seemed like a wonderful day. Assuming those were your final edits, I was inspired by the minimalist processing. Thanks....
Merci beaucoup 🙏😊
I wonder how many of one's best photos were done intuitively rather than planned.
