and always has top notch musicians with him. that drummer...so good. also the bass - i always appreciated, among other things, his timing and rhythmic flair
Love it! Bruce keeps on creating a World of Wonders for us :-) I saw him solo in Hamburg in February 2007. Usually I prefer his solo stuff, but this is just great. What a pleasure it must be to be backed up by such a bunch of fabulous musicians.
I've only just now been introduced to Bruce Cockburn. I knew the song, "I Wonder Where the Lions Are" but nothing of the artist who wrote it. I heard something yesterday from an old interview... Someone asked Stevie Ray Vaughan what it was like to be the world's greatest guitarist. He said that he'd have to ask Bruce Cockburn. With that, I just had to find out who he was talking about. I have just finished watching several of his videos. I intend to listen to several more. I looked him up on Wikipedia. It says he's from Ontario, Canada. I live in Buffalo, NY. I would have said that I was surprised that I hadn't heard of him before but regrettably, the Buffalo area didn't have the appreciation for new art as I would have wished it had. Cockburn's public recognition reminds me of a favorite blues guitarist of mine, Roy Buchanan. Obviously, he is very under-exposed let alone under-rated. Needless to say, I have enjoyed what I have listened to so far very much. I notice that he has a jazz flair. I like that. Wikipedia says that he has had a 40 year career. I will enjoy diving and delving into his song catalog.
Roy Buchanan has been one of my favorites for decades. His licks have my jaw dropping. This jam from Cockburn is mighty good. Just listening to it for the 2nd time.
Bruce Cockburn has some legitimate followers who are in the industry but that quote is bogus. It's floated around for decades using different names..."Jimi Hendrix says ask "..."Eddie Van Halen said ask so and so", etc. Regardless, Bruce is simply fantastic. One of the most prolific and continually imaginative artists out there.
The drummer is Ben Riley. He is from Ontario. I think he was about 23 when this was made. He has the distinction of having the same name as a famous American jazz drummer from a much earlier era.
Amazing how he could play both rhythm and lead at one time on a steel string acoustic guitar . It is really hard on the hands . brought on early arthritis for me ..... I usually only hear making one guitar sound like two guitars on the classical nylon string guitar by good classical and calypso guitar players . And it ain't just fingerpicking chords either i could never hold a pick for long(congenital carpal tunnel with me) . So i had to pluck and only once or two variations of songs(one of them the medieval Green Sleeves) could i play melody and rhythm or counter point at the same time . If i ever start playing again I am gonna try to play left handed . just need to flip knut, bridge and strings on a right handed guitar . even though i got carpal in the right arm those fingers are more dexterous . also have congenital pain in the left shoulder down the arm , and caused me a lot of pain too . but one guitarist i know said try to play left handed because your fingering the fretboard neck hand does most of the important stuff.
In hard times Bruce is my go to to pull me up by my boot straps and keep on going for over 45 years now
I've seen this so many times and I NEVER get bored of it..
Same here
He has everything going for him, great vocalist, great guitar player, and a great song writer. They only come once in a lifetime.
and always has top notch musicians with him. that drummer...so good. also the bass - i always appreciated, among other things, his timing and rhythmic flair
Well said & agree with you both! We are so fortunate to have Bruce in our lives & lucky to have found him!
Wow - so atmospheric and chilly groovin'. He is criminally underrated, and this band is tighter than a Scotsman the week before payday.
😂
I love Bruce Cockburn.
Thanks for your honest and sincere love towards my work,we have you to be most thankful for . 💓😘
More than 45 years of great music from Bruce Cockburn

+Steve Walsh he's amazing.. and as far as i've heard, a household name in canada...
"Live" got me through the 90s. I never would have known about him living in the states but when I discovered his work he blew me away too.

i always thought it was eddy van halen who said that, but whatever, i am convinced bruce cockburn is probably the most underrated guitar player ever

This exemplifies why Bruce is considered by many to be the greatest living guitarist.
What incredible guitar playing, I'm new to Bruce Cockburn but I'm so glad I finally got round to checking him out - astonishing stuff.
Check out Hoop Dancer. Shades of Jim Morrison.

Fantastic piece. Anyone know what guitar make that is?
I think Bruce's guitars are made my Linda Manzer
David Binks Custom made by close friend of his.Forgot name.

what year? about 99?
Who's the drummer?
Who on earth is the bass player?
wish the drums were louder :(
Bears a striking resemblance to Rick Moranis here ... but what I wouldn't give for his talents!
ghost of django reinhardt
Trump making American great again 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
?????
Jerry Garcia was ineffable--but he was not alone--Bruce Cockburn is truly a L
I've just watched some Djanjo Reinhardt and now I understand why Cockburn is compared with him... not in style so much as ability
