I agree, they are great to listen to while at the office, doing housework, before a nap, or before sleeping for the night. Usually I keep them running and after a few episodes I fall asleep, the next night I start whereabouts I fell asleep.

I'm always excited to hear Dragnet because most of the stories are from Los Angeles to San Bernardino where I grew up, during the time frame that my mother and uncles were children. I love Jack Web's precise voice, and the actor playing Ben (his partner), I recognize from many other radio programs like Diamond and I Love A Mystery.

@@andibowe6890I can just see the trams in the 1920's. My mom managed to raise me and my sister in gated communities. There aren't that many, but we went to public school, where fights broke out every other day, and you had to have your wits about you. My High School was rated top 5, most infested with gang members. I told my sister our school couldn't be that bad, so she began naming off gang members that we grew up with. We knew them at school but until we were teens my mother kept us in the gated communities. Unfortunately, I'm desensitized by gunfire, but managed to avoid getting into a gang, or becoming a criminal. I lived near LA until 6 years ago, and it's all about caution. Knowing what areas to avoid, keeping your head up and watchful, and not trusting anybody. I understand why people who come to LA to get into acting or social media, end up moving back home within a year.

"Rifle For Christmas" is THE saddest story. I've heard it twice and it's traumatizing! I can't imagine how the actors got through it. I absolutely love Jack Webb for the way he doesn't pull punches sometimes. The stories have a strong morality and deep compassion. I wasn't at all surprised when I discovered he also created my favourite show of the 70s, "Emergency".

Raymond Burr was great in the short lived Fort Laramie a well written show. Howard McNear played Pliney the sutler, McNear was Floyd the barber in Mayberry and suffered a stroke and Andy Griffith insisted he was kept on the show and he was always shown propped up in his barber chair

Wouldn't be able to do any more, all these detective shows involve lots of mention of cigarettes.its just the culture of that era.smoking was just a part of everyday life in those times.i despise the smell and as a young child it seemed that every adult would light one up,doctors ,nurses any restaurant even in the grocery store .no place to avoid it.i was very glad when smoking was banned in most every public space.nkthing better than to go to a restaurant and not have my meal ruined by that awful stench permeating the building
