My mom got a diagnosis of Leukemia about 8 weeks ago. We were hopeful she'd enjoy a good 4-6 months but sadly it was not to be. In those early weeks when mom was still pretty cogent, I picked up a copy of movie tie-in version of 'I Heard You Paint Houses' to read to her in the hospital. Mom was born in the early 40's so the characters Sheeran describes (Hoffa, the Kennedys, Patton) were vivid figures she could still envision in her mind. We'd play some Sinatra (my dad's favorite) in the background and I would read 6-7 hours straight; she never got tired of these stories. Mom passed a couple weeks ago and we had her service this past Saturday at the same place where my Pops was laid to rest...Sinatra once again lightly playing in the background. Thank you for this beautiful video; it was if, for a few short moments, I could feel my parents' presence with me one more time. I really appreciate you for that.
Frank Sinatra recorded many great songs during his career - but IMHO, 'Summer Winds' is arguably his very finest. Originally released in Germany as 'Der Sommerwind' in 1965, it was re-written by legendary songwriter and lyricist Johnny Mercer and first recorded that same year by Wayne Newton - although both Perry Como and Bobby Vinton followed with their own versions. However, Sinatra's recording of the song in 1966 was and still is the definitive version. His easy-going even laconic rendition of the song elevated it to the status of an absolute classic and led to it being number one on the 'easy-listening' charts that year. The song's association with film [and myself] began in 1984 - when it was used in both the opening and closing sequences of the superb 'The Pope of Greenwich Village' starring Mickey Rourke and Eric Roberts. It instantly resonated with me and after a lengthy [but unfulfilled] search to acquire the single, I eventually managed to get it on its original album ['Strangers in the Night']. Interestingly, the 'Strangers in the Night' album is notable for cementing Sinatra's 'comeback' [it reached number one in the pop album charts in 1966], but also signified Sinatra's last collaboration with revered arranger and conductor, Nelson Riddle. 'Summer Winds' also featured in an episode of 'The Simpsons' as well as in the soundtrack of the 'Blade-Runner' re-make ['Blade Runner 2049'] in 2017. But for me, the song is indelibly linked to the 'Pope of Greenwich Village' and will always be my all-time favourite Sinatra song.
Awesome edit. It also emphasizes how the movie was beautifully shot. I don't consider "The Irishman" to be Scorsese's best (sadly), but it was beautifully shot.
Same. It doesnt matter that Sheeran was full of shit. This is "imagined", and it still might scratch pretty close, account at what happened to Hoffa. Scorsese is a story teller.
@@joonaslehtonen7965 I love how people bash it for being made up in parts and not 100% accurate, but yeah Tarantino can make up shit in once upon a time in Hollywood and it’s okay 🤷🏻♂️😂. But it’s definitely one of my favorite movies by Scorsese
Yeah, I'm not sure about it being his best, but it's certainly a wonderful send-off to an era of some of the finest films in the world. So glad the boys got together again for it.
Ladies and gentlemen the actors of the best decades we had movies. I tip my hat to these gentlemen for bringing us great movies. The last of their kind
I used to play this back in the day when I was getting dressed to go out after seeing that scene in the Pope of Greenwich Village. Funny how much art affects our daily lives lol
In another 40 years when I’m in Old Folks home ready to die. I’m gonna be listening to this song. And a young nurse is gonna ask: Who is this?? I’ll say: It’s Frank Sinatra. Nurse: With a puzzled look on her face, will say: Oh yeah. I’ll reply: You don’t know who that is do you? Nurse: Ok, I don’t.

I'm so sorry to hear about your mom passing away and very glad this video reminds you of her. Rest in peace 🕊

2:10 I love this shot, of Miami, the amazing classic cars combined with the music you added. Amazing Montage

Great edit man, you captured the feel of the film while matching the rhythm of the song and making the cuts clean which is difficult to do.
A more beautiful song does not exist.
Ayo nice edits
You just hit a teenager with nostalgia older than himself
Good work man honestly yo 👌
This needs more recognition

this edit is GOD TIER
frank and the mob
the love story that we love
Masterpiece.
I swear to God if Robert DeNiro and Joe Pesci live another 5 or 10 years Martin Scorese will find a way to put them in yet another mob film lol.
DeNiro was 76 when The Irishman was released, he may be old but not THAT old
This is the best editing i've seen especially better than that other channel. Outstanding
That’s amazing!! Fantastic edit, love the song and it fits perfectly!!
