I was very fortunate, a few decades back, to be able to dedicate a long weekend to the British Museum ... awesome memories. Your description of it reminded me of a joke:
Q: Why are the Pyramids in Giza?
A: Because the English couldn't figure a way to ship them back to the British Museum!

This was the best most unique video that I have seen for London. Most videos take us to the usual tourist traps, but you took us to parts I have not visited yet. You did not fill the video full of flights, airports, hotels, restaurants and other things that i do not care about. Thanks. Life is an Adventure, live it that way! Queen Becky

I’ve visited London a few times over the years and will be there again in a couple of days. Your presentation answered my queries about old Londinium. It’s such a wonderful city to visit. I will seek out the London Museum as well as the area surrounding it. May I suggest explaining to viewers the reason the British Museum collection is so diverse is because the British Empire once spanned the world. Making it possible to exhibit its collection from all over the world. Thank you for an excellent tour. It was fun, insightful, and educational.

England got these "imperial" collections from simply taking them from countries they conquered or "explored", sans permission or cooperation from the invaded countries. I understand that India wants the jewels in the "crown jewels" repatriated and England refuses to give them back.

Hey now, i was born, raised and lived in London Half my life. I could drone on about "why didn't you go there" and so on. You referenced my two most important sites. The Petrie Museum (a must) and the greatest Museum in the world....the British Museum. I know you are American David so i will choose my words thoughtfully. I have the greatest respect for the Smithsonian. They have a dozen or so Museums across the US. The Romans were a mere inconvenience to us...a bug on the windscreen kinda thing. I will try and leave you with a smile David. Irvin Finkle (curator at the British Museum) states "all important artifacts are just on loan around the world.....they all end up in the British Museum eventually" 😉......peace to ya.

For other US citizens planning to visit London, I discourage hiring a car unless you've got money to burn (congestion charge, parking, etc.) and oodles of time to spare. Trips out to towns like Reading, Oxford, Cambridge, St Albans, Guildford, etc. etc., are easier, quicker and cheaper by train. Although we natives moan about our public transport, it is way better than you'll generally find in the States. 🚅

The Museum of London is closing on 12.04.22 until 2026 for renovations. You missed the "London Stone" which is right around the corner from the Mithraeum.
Borough Market is where you will find Mrs. King's Pies, traditional British pork pies that are the best I've ever had. Many people complain that they are "cold" not knowing that these pies go all the way back to Tudor England and before, a portable meal. The French equivalent is Pâté en Croûte.

The problem with growing up in a city like London is you just live your life like anyone else and go to school or work and things, it's basically like living in a series of very closely packed villages, and certain sites and museums are always there so you never really think to go. I've never been to the museum of London and I've only been to the British museum once for a school trip and maybe two or three times when Americans I've been friends with have visited and wanted to go! You can get apathetic about all the plethora of interesting things you can do and places to see. I've moved away now and I can't go back yet because of bad memories, although I live in another fantastically historical city now and this reminds me to go and enjoy some things.
Also I like hearing Americans pronounce place names here 😊. You didn't say anything wrong like some do it just sounds different in a charming way.

"All the other museums must be empty, because whatever there is, is here" >>>>> major oof as a Malaysian. Our National Museum is really small for a **National Museum**, and we know for a fact that thousands of artifacts, books, manuscripts, textiles etc were carted off by the British during the colonial era. As a museum lover who can't really afford to travel much outside the region, this makes me sad. I do still want to visit British Museum, someday. And hope that someday we can get at least some of our stuff back.

There has been a movement for the repatriation of artifacts to foreign countries though in some cases museums like the BM are quite resistant to returning certain items.
I visited the BM in 1983 and saw the Elgin Marbles which were taken from the Parthenon by a British diplomat named Lord Elgin in the early 19th century.
At the same time that I visited there was a news report about Greece adamantly demanding the Marbles be returned. But alas they are STILL at the museum today!!

Several hours to see the British Museum ? That's nuts. You want to set aside at least 2 days. The place is as huge as it is fabulous. If you are going to London, don't miss it. On one of those days you should also visit the Petrie Museum which is close by and isn't very big and easy to see in 2 hours. You have to reset your head at the Petrie so take it slow because almost everything in there is little. The Brits do good museums.

We were able to climb the stairs all the way to the top of the building. London fascinated us as we strolled around the ancient streets. I would love to go back now that I am an adult and have a better understanding of history. There are no trash cans because they are great places to hide bombs in, which was a problem in London for a bit. And I don’t think you can do the British justice in a few hours; you can pick one section a day… I have been perhaps a dozen times over the years and I keep finding something new. If you want to just do the highlights - the Rosetta stone, the Parthenone, the Assyrian gallery, the mummies, you can do that in a full day, if you are young and spry. It is one of my favourite places in the world. (The other is Kew Gardens, but it’s got nothing to do with ancient history.)
At the moment the Museum of London is closed for refurbishment, and I seem to remember it will open in a different location. I am quite looking forward to it.

Wow you found the absence of ice a strange local costume but I'm from Chicago so what you called your drink, "Pop" is the only thing we refer to what the rest of the United States calls, soda. You must be from Chicago or spent enough time in Chicago to lose the soda term and call pop...pop! Lol

@@WorldofAntiquity ahh Buffalo! Very good. Well I had no idea that you guys also use the term pop and not soda? Now let me ask you a very serious question that will determine if Chicago and Buffalo have much more in common besides horrible winters!! Do you people in Buffalo believe that putting catsup/ketchup on a hot dog requires a 10 year prison sentence and a second offense requires the death sentence or are you allowed to put catsup on hot dogs???

The reasoning for the lack of trash cans or as we call them bins you may find that its down to the troubles between mainland UK and northern Ireland and its not really sorted itself out regarding the bins, sorry trash cans....

@@WorldofAntiquitythere is zero tectonic activity in Britain. It’s geologically dead as a dodo. Trust me I’m from Italy, it’s a great selling point for me, although the first time I slept in my current house I was woken up with it shaking like a Richter 4 and had a half heart attack before realising it was the train track two streets away. After the Romans left no more serious brick walls have been laid in this country, it looks like sometimes…
