I kinda want to say that the Whispering Death killed Toothless family. Because the idea of hiccup being there to aid toothless, maybe toothless didn't want history to repeat itself after losing those he love. There's plenty of cave territories (if toothless habitat is in caves), but vengeance for lost loved ones seems more accurate.

Misbaha Uddin it's just a theory, we won't know anything until more films or Netflix series come out.
But here are some ways that can happen.
Exhibit A: We don't even know if toothless lives in colonies where there would be more than 20, or if it would be a mother, father, and few siblings. Now because of the theory of night furies living in caves, the whispering death could have puncture a sensitive part of the cave which can cause a collapse of the cave and he would have been the only young survival (which can explain on the sudden new secrets from the 2nd film).
Exhibit B. Yes Night furies are amazing and every how to train your Dragon loves them but that doesn't make then unstoppable. For one, have you seen the size comparison between the two? they can easily do a sneak attack from under the ground causing sinkholes or whatnot, night furies have the air combat advantage vs the whispering death have the underground advantage.
There's a hole in this theory that I have to point out. Why did the whispering death hate Toothless enough to hunt him down years (or however long) later? If they had only originally fought for territory, then there was no reason for it to track down one specific night fury. It won the fight.
Just a thought.
I thought the same thing. I find it interesting that nobody is even considering the possibility that maybe *Toothless* is the one who started it. That might be why he didn’t want anyone else to get involved. To him, this is his mess, and he needs to clean it up.
Because Toothless was still a threat. Even at a younger age, it clear fought against the Whispering Death ferociously, so now, he’s literally a bigger threat. It could also be a natural enemies type of deal on top of it.

Hello Future Me here is another theory, what if toothless at one point had a child... that could have been who made the bite mark... and the whispering death killed toothless' child.
My theory: Toothless, when born, may have been with his parents for a couple of weeks. BUT, then the whispering death killed Toothlesses parents, and Toothless fought back, explaining why he is alone, why there is bite mark on the whispering deaths tail, and explaining why Toothless was so enraged at the whispering death. BOOM!
why did it not kill him kill the mom and dad why not the kid biting you?

My theory is that the whispering deaths killed the nightfuries but toothless and his family escaped and raised toothless and they ran into whispering deaths and fought that one when toothless was young and killed his family but he got away then ran into dragon island and was enslaved by the red death
That can’t be true because it is revealed that grimmel is the one who killed the night furies in the 3rd film. Also nightfuries are shown to be some of the most powerful dragons because in the series toothless defeated the whispering death easily after he gained his flight ability because of hiccup being on his back. So that theory dosent make sense, sorry
Why do the Skrill and Toothless hate each other in DoB?
Because the skrill is a scared wild animal that was just broken out of ice, harassed by humans and dragons, taken captive by more humans, shot at by dragons, and more.
It was also an aggressive and obviously solitary species, only further driven to fear, aggression and hatred of humans by dagur, so hiccup was in danger because the skrill thought it needed to defend itself.
Toothless was defending himself, hiccup, and the others, and the skrill was defending itself.
The whole skill plot is actually kinda sad, if it were handled by better writers then the CN ones it probably could have been a really well made story.

What really happened was that hiccup trapped the skrill in ice and it got freed and was angry
but wont a Night Fury and a Skrill be friends because the Skill is a lighting dragon and they say that NF are an offspring of lighting and death itself
I just thought of something freaky. What if that place was the nest of all the remaining Night Furies, and after Toothless ran away from his family to escape the clutches of the Whispering Death, that was when Grimmle the Grizzly came to slaughter the Night Furies, and that’s how Toothless managed keep escape Grimmle

i think that the reason toothless hates the wispering death so much is also the reason he is the only night fury. i think that when he was very young a hoard of dragons attaked the nightfury clan that that wispering death was with them and he was the one that killed toothlesses family. toothless is the only one who escaped alive but he remembers that one dragon as the one who killed his family
Night Furies are more superior than the other dragons, and plus why would a horde of Dragons attack the Night Furies in the first place?? I'm just saying.

This makes no sense cuz grimmel killed the night furies, not another dragon species. Also genocides don’t happen in nature unless there is human intervention. And also the whispering deaths had no reason to attack night furies, and what exactly suggests that they could defeat them. Toothless clapped the whispering death when he had his flight ability because of hiccup. So night furies that don’t rely on having someone on their back to fly could easily beat a whispering death. And finally how do we know night furies travel in groups. How do we know that they are nit sent into the wild to survive on their own at a young age. This behavior is common with many other dragons so what tells us it wouldn’t happen with night furies

I like the idea that they were battling over territory resources! That really makes sense. And especially if it led to him meeting and being subjugated by the Red Death!
I think that when hiccup shot toothless down and set him free the whispering death attacked toothless in the cove and ripped his tail off this explains why we see scales in the cove not where toothless first lands because there tail scales

This is highly unlikely as The bite marks are much smaller than Tootless' mouth at the time.
Wouldn't the bite mark have grown along with the Whispering Death? Meaning it was even smaller than that when first inflicted? It's totally a bite from one of Toothless' kids who was killed by the Whispering Death. Which not only makes Toothless want revenge, but makes him so adamant to keep Hiccup out of it.
That was an interesting theory. I think it is pretty plausible. For the next video, I'd love to see a theory on how dragons may have evolved (in the HTTYD universe). Some of the dragons don't seem to have a reasonable anatomy. For example, how would a skrill pick up the ability to store massive amounts of charge and use it to create lightning? Usually a lightning strike is incapacitating, if not lethal. How did evolution produce this ability?

In "Gift of the Night Fury" you can actually see a scar on Toothless's neck when he returns to Berk. Maybe that's from fighting the whispering death. Here's the scar:

Ava Tran so is Hookfang. I think Toothless just knows that there will be no other Night Furies for him to mate with. Also, he was more concerned with finding Hiccup's helmet, so when Hiccup gave him the ability to fly alone, he went off to search for it, not go to the mating place.

Could you also review the mystery around the Screaming Death
My theory is that the Whispering Death disobeyed the Red Death and got nearly killed. He escaped, so the Red Death ordered Toothless to kill him. As response, the Whispering Death killed some of Toothless' dragon friends. Maybe even another Night Fury (like a parent or a sibling). This caused a long fight, which led to the bite mark. This also explains why the fight was so personal.

what happend to the skrills
I always thought that toothless' family was killed by that whispering death (or a dragon who was close to him while he was still young)
I have made a book on this theory (Only I know it because I write it on my laptop) at the start, a pack of whispering deaths ( maybe 7-10) come into the carved of many nightfurys ( The ones that survived 3rd film villan I can't remember his name) and the whispering death gang kills them. Only toothless got close enough to bite one of the whispering death but when all the nightfurys died or got extremely injured toothless ran away. Into the clutches of the red death, the red death commands toothless to destroy berk because as we know nightfurys are much more powerful than most of the HTTYD dragons.
Obviously Toothless hates the Whispering Death because the Whispering Death repeatedly cut in front of Toothless in the Pizza Hut lunch buffet line.

There is another thing that supports your theory about night furies living underground. Toothless's sonar. The two of them constantly use it to manage flying underground.
Okay here it goes... Maybe Toothless and that Whispering Death knew each other as kids because of the young Night Fury bite mark on the Whispering Death's tail. My theory is that the Whispering Death's family drove Toothless from his family. On the way back home, Toothless sees his family is gone and finds the adolescent Whispering Death. Angry, he bites the Whispering Death's tail and the two begin to fight... after separating in mid battle due to something unknown, Toothless begins to fly to Berk's archipelago to find either his nemesis or any evidence of it (Death holes). On the way, he meets Hiccup and feels happiness after the victory over the Red Death. One day, his nemesis find him on Berk and realises that Toothless can't fly. He then thinks of the plan to lead Toothless to the canyon to kill him off...

The dad died fighting it. But one brother went to the hidden world, bred with another dragon and created Light fury’s. And one became the lovable, and cat like Toothless who later on met a Viking freed millions of dragons every other week, and soon became alpha.

I thing when Grimmel shot a night fury down he didn't actually killed it. But then the Whispering Death came in and tried to kill the Night Fury(Toothless family member) but while the other night fury's where protecting toothless they killed Grimmel's familly by mistake. Then the whispering death killed them but toothless made it out alive. Plus by accidenting killing Grimmels family the night fury's felt sorry for a moment which gave the whispering death a chance to kill.

My theory is that toothless owes the whispering death some money.
The whispering death killed toothless's family or "pack" and that bite mark is from his older clutch mate or him when he was trying to protect his siblings, the whispering death then drove him out to the red death but that only added to the hate he had for the whispering death.
How about just like when Hookfang had to defeat the Titan Wing in order to show dominance to defend the female Monstrous Nightmare, Toothless had to show dominance over the Whispering Death in order to save another Night Fury. The Night Fury which he was with years ago and the WD only has to get defeated by T as we know from that episode from RTTE. Just a theory.

My theory is that when toothless was young and with his family he and (possibly) his siblings were out flying when toothless and his siblings decide to sneak off when they found a whispering death hole and curiosity got the better of them. Toothless and (possibly) one of his siblings got out of the whispering death hole but toothless saw the rest of his siblings got eaten and tried to fight back only for his parents to save him and his only surviving sibling.
key point you guys have missed- why would the whispering death track toothless down after all; that time if it had won by driving him out or killing his family, etc. I would guess that toothless still did something more than just injure it for that kind of reaction.

I could have been toothless's siblings that fought the whispering death and lost.
My theory is along the lines of that T's family or at least siblings were killed by that older whispering death while toothless was defending his siblings when his parents were away and that toothless chased after the whispering death and was separated from his parents there and then traveled around to get enslaved by the red death

I'd say that his nemesis is the skill. toothless was ALWAYS pissed whenever they met. and remember, toothless mainly hunts at night, or, well, storms. the skrills presumably natural habitat. and, as evidence that toothless hunts in storms, think back to the first movie. it's how he defeats the red death.
I feel as of toothless lost his brother/sister to thay whispering death and that leaving a scar in toothlesses mind and heart makes him get enraged every time he sees the whispering death. I think that the scar caused by a sibling is toothless' trigger and what reminds him to get him so angry. And due to hiccup treating toothless as more than a friend and more like a brother toothless doesnt want to go through the heartbreak and agony of losing something or someone precious.
Have you noticed that Toothless misses shooting plasma blasts to the whispering death??? In the movie Hiccup says that he never misses.

Maybe what happened between Toothless and that whispering death is what caused him to be alone in the first place. That whispering death along with others may have been trying to drive toothless and his parents out of their territory and Toothless wounded that one in the process.
You should do a theroy involving the screaming death and how it was even possible to be hatched
Perhaps the Whispering Death net toothless when he was still an adolescent. My theory is that the Whispering Death killed toothless' parents and siblings. Then after the fact, the adolescent toothless tried to fight off the Whispering Death, but ended up getting driven from his home instead. Then, years later, toothless still remembered that dreadful act if the Whispering Death, and wanted to avenge his family.

I think that when toothless was a baby he was taken from his home on a boat that took him to the arkapeligo and on that boat was a baby whispering death.The two baby dragons then had a fight leaving the whispering death with the bite mark on its side.I think this is how they became enemies and how toothless came to Berk
I have a theory - The Whispering Death (WD) attacked Toothlessness family and killed one of them (Mom/brother/sister) it was just TL and Mom to protect B,S, Mom put up a good fight with TL help but died anyway later do to her injury's TL was able to get WD to leave, one week later when TL was out getting food for B/S the WD came back and so the B/S escaped thru an escape hole flew away and saw that so he collapsed the cave but got cought in it later escaped but never saw where they went. So his Dad and B & S can still be out there. Great story yes, I have more.
Toothless had a family in a whispering death cave, one day while toothless was out hunting the whispering death came back to his old cave and saw three night furies one adult female and two kids, the whispering death furious about his home being taken he kills the dragons (one of the kids bites him), toothless come back to see his family dead and the whispering death standing over them so they became enimies/rivals and toothless swore to one day get revenge of the whispering death and so did the whispering death.

I saw a theory that could better explain this. Whispering deaths return to their birth place to have their young. Maybe when the whispering death returned to his birth place, he found toothless living there. They found over the cave and it got destroyed in the process, forcing toothless to flee. Heart broken, the whispering death hunted toothless and fought him again, gaining his scar. Toothless fled and was forced into the clutches of the red death. Wounded, the whispering death, didn’t follow him and healed before hunting him again. Like you said, toothless held his grudge due to being drivin into the red deaths nest
I think that they were out on a date then the Whispering death did a one night stand with Toothless, then Toothless got mad and tracked down the Whispering death and gave it a peace of his mind so then they were just really angry with each other.

I don't see night furies digging out cave systems in solid rock, so I'm gonna say, they either find abandoned whispering death burrows or drive them out with superior firepower. Kinda like foxes and badgers!

How to Train Your Dragon is a fascinating series with a lot of creative concepts, but i would have loved to have seen them lean more into the lore of the books, most notably with the Dragon Furious and the Rebellion, i just think the books also had an intriguing story to tell, it would have come out amazing as a series of movies or, just as a series

My idea of what happened is that when Hiccup and Toothless met the whispering death bit off Hiccups leg
