Everything big - doctor bills , hospital bills , prescription costs . Americans live in dread of any serious illness which can literally bankrupt a family or individual. Even with insurance coverage there are upfront costs - even an ambulance can cost thousands as can something as simple and natural as childbirth
I emigrated from the UK to Australia back in 1970. Here in Aus we enjoy more public holidays than in the UK and if you stay working in the same company for 10 years you get long service leave which consists of 15 weeks leave on full pay
Marriage isn't seen as so necessary in the UK, many couples just don't bother. Wage difference is less than it seems, once you cost in the difference in medical costs. Not that it matters but if you compare the billionaires to population size they are not so different, the comparison they gave is apples and oranges not a like for like. Merely comparing hours worked doesn't show the very much better work life balance in the UK and the toxicity of the US work culture. Here not only do we have the holiday time we are actively encouraged to actually take it. While our houses are nothing like as large as in the USA they are much better built and progressively more energy efficient. Car ownership if you live in a city is seen by many as simply expensive and unnecessary as our cities are far better designed and easily walkable as well as having extensive public transport systems (unfortunately not in rural areas). The student debt is bad but again not as bad as it seems, if you don't earn above a certain level you never pay it and it is wiped out at 65 or 30 years after you should have started paying, and you only ever have to pay 9% of anything you earn over that figure (£27,295.00 currently) towards it.
My wife was 4ft 11inch ,but bloody hell she could jump and hit spot on at 6ft , I Told you so , That was me backing off ,Not me being hit . Boudicca in Anger is not something you want to meet .Trust me.
