Best pad replacement video I have seen. Easy to understand and very thorough, even down to the socket sizes.
My only suggestions are:
1) Verify parking brake is released first.
2) Add a Warning: Don't let caliper hang down supported only by the hose, which could damage it and cause a leak, use a hanger!
3) Use new hardware for clips, which usually come with quality pads.
This video is great so thank u! Just a quick tip that hopefully helps somebody. If u are finding it impossible removing old rotor u have to remove black oval plug on back of dust cover. Behind it is a small gear that has to be turned downward with the end of a smaller flat head screwdriver(I turned it downward on the drivers side rear rotor, the passenger side might be the opposite). After several rotations down it will stop and your e brake is loose enough to get a hammer and whack the snot out of the rotor(u have to be aggressive sometimes, it will come loose) I hit mine from the back side while laying on the ground with a shortened sledge hammer and I had to give it 5 good licks and she busted loose. Good luck!
Thanks for this comment
The tutorials you all provide have been soo helpful with my diy projects for all 5 of our vehicles. Parts are quality as well as the videos. Thank you for creating such a variety of repairs
The time has come to replace all of my pads and rotors, so I think you guys just earned a new customer I will be buying my material through you instead of my local O'Reilly's
Great video! I've done brakes before but it had been a while so this vid gave me the refresher and confidence I needed.
Since my rotors look 100X rustier than yours, I'm sure this will be fun.
It should take you 16:50 seconds to get it done.
Change my rear pads and rotors today using your video. Worked like a charm! Keep up the good work and thank you for posting these videos. I have a 2010 Dodge ram 1500. Much appreciated!

What brand rotor and pads did you decide to use ?
What brand does A1 sell ?
Hey Andy, nice job explaining how the caliper goes on different on the drivers side. I did a brake job on my brothers 2014 Ram 1500 before watching this and I struggled trying to get the caliper on so the bolts could be started, wish I would of seen your video first. Thanks and keep them coming.!

Only place on RUclips that I don't mind watching the ads play ..lol thanks guys keep it up!
Thank you!! This was my first time ever changing my breaks and this video was the best!!😎
That truck didn't even need brakes 🤣
I felt like the video could’ve used a little more cowbell.
Hahahahaa😂
I don’t think a lot of people know what you’re talking about……
I do ! you know why cause I got a fever and the only prescription is more cowbell😂
20+ year mechanic here. Always grease UNDER brake pad hardware only. new stainless pad hardware will not rust. Just prevent rusting between the bracket and the hardware using grease. The pad should slide fine without the grease.
Using grease on top of the hardware will only introduce and hold dirt and grime, causing sticking.
I found 7/8s socket for lug nuts and 13/16s socket for the inside bolts worked better and were more snug than the mm sockets
Watching you guys videos is like watching a good ole movie....you know it's gonna be good 👍
“Hit it from the backside” 😂😂
Great video. Keep em coming thank you 🙌🏾🙌🏾
Hee hee ha ha joke funny me laugh 😒
Good job. Except for reusing the old pad clips/ hardware.
Do you have to adjust the parking brake everytime you change the pads or rotors?
No but you should, realistically it can be adjusted any time.
Great video and thanks for the torque values! I would add that both 10mm and 21mm bolts need loctite.
What why
you dont need loctite ! LOL
don’t forget to clean inside the back of the rotor where the parking brake rides on.
Love your videos guys.
Simple and informative.
Thank you!
Great video! I’ve never seen the pad clips reused
"Caliper holder"....I love it! Good job and well detailed.
Thus is a good demonstration. Thanks!
the star for emergency brake, do you tighten it snug or ?? assuming the emergency brake wouldnt be engaged while doing this job? any info i do appreciate!
Why did you skip the part where you back off the emergency brake?
+Jeff Johnson Thanks for the feedback! We'll pass this info along to our production team.
You don't always have to I've never had to
RUclips has more than 1 example, still a good video
Did this all went good but rear drivers side won't release after hitting brake. Any idea,? Nothing seems jammed, pads free bleeds fine, can move caliper with screw driver after it jams .
I needed to replace one rear rotor. The replacement had a parking brake drum about a half inch smaller than the original. It is a 2010 Ram 1500. They replaced it and the second one was the same.
Any suggestions.
Thanks for the refresher. Much appreciated.

I had to build some nuts and bolts as a breaker to rip the rotor off as it had welded itself onto the hub.
+Your Last Life Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
What is that adjustment for on the back brakes ? For the rotor .
Excellent video. Thanks!
As a rank armature I use 1A Auto videos a lot. Just one comment: You show and say the "top" of the caliper must go in first". The problem is that on the other side of the truck it is bottom goes in first. I know everyone else would find that out in a few seconds; I did not. Good videos and please understand that some of us idiots probably should not be working on rigs but unfortunately I must. Please try to make these videos idiot proof. Thanks.
I juat did the rear brakes on my RAM and I am having the same issue i was having. Squeaking! I think there is something i fkrgot to do like lube the parts! That may have been what was going on with the original brakes. They were the original. Probably needed to be lubed!!! I pull apart again and lube everything i forgot to and hopefully ill get the sqeak to go away!
+Scott yP Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
What brake grease do you use? And does it make the rubber parts swell?
Is it normal that the tightening torque is not the same forward and backward? 2 pounds difference for the front and rear bracket and 7 pounds for the calipers? Why? tank you
Thank you for the instructions, helped a lot.
Excellent advice thank you
Thank you very well done 👏. You make it look like I can do it . Thanks
“Not an actual spoon” 😂
Do you have a video on how to adjust the parking brake on 2014 ram trucks
+Andre G We do not have a video for this repair right now, but we'll keep this request in mind for a future video! 1AAuto.com
Looking forward to it
What regular maintenance should be performed on the rear emergency brake? Due to harsh Canadian winter I usually perform maintenance on my brakes once a year. But after 2 years of owning my 2017 Ram the emergency brake seized even with daily usage.
+MAP MAP Thanks for watching. If they seized up after two years then you will probably want to add them to your yearly maintenance!
same problem with my 2015.
I think that's whats goin on with my 11... I've never messed with drums and shoes tho. Somewhat intimidated by that adjustment. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance
Great video as usual Thanks
Nice video. Thank you.
Brake caliper is extended far. My tool won't fit or really compress it.. what do I do?
C clamp never fails 😎
Thank you thumbs up
What's the recommended milage to do brakes at ?
+Jeremiah Pretzlaw Generally, brake pads need to be replaced after about 50,000 miles. Some need to be replaced after 25,000, while others can last for 70,000 miles - it depends on many factors. To get a more accurate number for your car's specific needs, consult the owner's manual. Thanks for checking us out!
Just got 50k out of my factory installed pads...not bad could have gotten a bit more out of them but with all the free time as of now why not just change them out.
@@WERKED66 Mine were replaced at 40k miles. I live in Chicago and we have heavily salted roads during winter.
Why didn't you spray the inside rotor where the parking brake mates to the rotor?
Big thanks super helpful
Thank you
i AM HAVING PROBLEMS WITH RIGHT REAR BRAKE HOSE REPLACEMENT FOR A 2015 4X4 1500, CALIPER BOLTS ARE MASIVELY TORQUED ON AND BROKE ABS TAB IN HALF THAT IS MOUNTED TO BACK OF BRAKE ASSEMBLY., THIS IS FOR A 2015, 1500, NO INFO;{
Very helpful thank you
+Dmitri Maslv Thanks for the feedback!
Thanks for video. Very helpful. But aren't you skipping the whole brake bleeding thing or is this all you have to do on newer cars?
not needed to bleed if you don't open the bleeder if you replace the caliper or brake line then yes you need to bleed but since that all stays intact with just a pad replacement no air has been introduced to the system so no bleeding required
Thank you so much
I wish I had that kind of leverage to hit my seized rotor.. I've been stuck on the same rotor for over an hour now. 💀
+sebastien morissette Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
Get a sledge, change the angle, I've been there, they freeze on and can be a bugger to get off. I spent a day trying to get the wheel bearing off my 05' and when it finally broke it just popped right off.
Why wasn’t the hardware replaced? Most good sets of replacement pads come with it included, unless the brake pads you guys sell are cheap pads.
+Carlos Navarro Our kits do come with new hardware.
Excellent
what length breaker bar was used?
I feel like my e-brakes rusted onto the back of the drum or something. I can smack it in the back and front, and they move a little, but not much, and just simply will not come off :(
NVM, just saw your thing about the door! That might be what I need to do
Thanks for sharing. Thanks for sharing. NOT all of these trucks use a 22mm/7/8" socket for the lug nuts, my brother's has aftermarket wheels & uses a 19mm, just fyi.
How do you know with confidence the brakes were done correctly? lol What are some tips of a improperly installed brakes/rotors?
+Marita Tache Thanks for watching! If you follow the steps in the video then you can be confident that your brake repair was done right!
I compare other videos and get tips and tricks from each…this one is by far the best.
I'm pretty sure someone welded my RR rotor to the hub...
I need an update did you summon your inner Thor and knock it loose
I've always wanted to do this. Just weld every piece of a car together before sending to the wreckers or trading it in.
Ram dealership charged me $911 for this + front brake service + brake flush service.
Could have saved yourself 500-600 dollars, about 130-150 for elite brakes plus grease and cleaning fluid/materials, just saying, ye i got ripped off to so I feel your pain. Doing it yourself is definitely the way to go now adays.
So much extra work and time. That’s why they made air tools.
What are the torque settings on the calipers bolts?
+David Hammon Thanks for watching! 24 ft lb for the caliper slid pin bolts, and 132 ft lb for the caliper bracket bolts.
I replaced the hardware on the caliper instead of wire brushing it, but I sure should have watched this video before tackling the task of replacing the rear brakes on 2014 Ram 1500. Thanks the tips.
I thought you supposed to bleed it when you push the caliper back
Nope - as long as you don't open brake lines anywhere, air won't get in. Fluid is just pushed back up toward the reservoir.
Bleeding wont be necessary if you never unbolted the caliper hose
You only bleed air if you opened the sealed system.
No, but you should have the reservoir cap open to avoid unnecessary pressure in the lines
Uses the old hardware, Rookie
dude, don't reuse the old clips. I mean they are so cheap, just them. Same goes for the fasteners, replace don't reuse.
Those pads look like they have plenty of time left on them
They're so cheap, it's better to do the pads if you have to do the rotors. Any damage the pad sustained from seizing may compromise them at a later date.
must be cheap pads no new hardware or unskilled tech???????
New hardware is included, tech just didn't install for some reason. Maybe he really likes brake chatter.
The old pads were still good, probably using his own truck as an example
how do you know what direction to pry that star wheel to loosen the E-brake in order to remove the rotor if it's hung up on it? Different for passenger side/Driver side?
