- Hell if I know why I covered this #godsmack tune. They got labeled in the #korn crowd but they weren't that. #sullyerna in particular is an honest to God fav of mine for personal reasons but beyond that, as much as I absolutely love Larkin, I don't sit around and map out Godsmack covers. All that crap out of the way, this is / was a fun tune to try. Just a "rock" song where freedom was present but I didn't take it. I tried to stay relatively true to the track from what would have been Godsmack's original drummer Tommy Stewart who I had the chance to do some shows with. Also did shows with Sully while HE was drumming in Stripmind. It was a fun time and neither Sully nor Tommy would remember a thing since I did less than a handful of dates opening for Lillian Axe and either moved on or whatever (Tommy played for Lillian Axe / Sully played drums for Stripmind). Hope you all are great! Have a great New Year. Hell if I know what I'm gonna do in '24.

This one was pretty fun to try! I am a big Larkin fan. And - honestly - I can't stress enough how good of a drummer Sully is. Dude is not a singer that kinda plays. He's a legit world class drummer and a joy to watch when he does play.

Those two SAZ albums are two of my favorite drum records of all time, had he not joined Godsmack I don't think they would be the same band live.

What up man??? This is a tune that I had spaced on. My admiration for Larkin is visible so his name comes up on here with some frequency yet, this is really only the 2nd GS tune I've done. I did Rocky Mountain way but that's still Joe Walsh to me. After picking this one out, I did pull up that album and it was a nice time just listening to how good it actually was!

It would be one thing if you were cranking out songs with a degree of difficulty that was far less than what you're doing. You're throwing out tunes that are head spinning. After two decades of off-and-on I have finally landed a somewhat permanent setup that I can really settle into. I have a really good memory and am very organized, so I usually bang out 10-15 covers per week during “filming season” (which is right now - with a three day per week RUclips schedule, that means 156 covers per year, so I try to balance things out with about 70% “easy” and 30% “difficult”. I then group things together based on that and start rehearsing. For my 2024 content, I started recording on Oct. 18, and as of right now I have filmed 70 of the 156.
I also live in a small town where I don’t know anyone so I have no life and “current era” popular culture doesn’t do it for me, so I just read and work. I also spend a lot of time smoking weed and staring at the forest at the edge of my backyard.

I remember being back in the States in 2001 hearing Godsmack on the radio!! Instantly liked them!! Got to see them in 2003 open for Metallica here in Mannheim. They were still relatively unknown here just a few people knew them!! Trey another awesome cover sounded pretty freakin perfect for me at least!! Appreciate that Zax and I totally forgot they did the run with Metallica!!! They flat blew up. And I did dig 'em. By that time, work had officially become a staple in my life so that is right when music started going in second place. I tried to keep up and I think I was following along with Strapping Young Lads, Type O was still big in my world, maybe Black Dahlia? Can't remember. But, I had stopped going to shows and the playing I was doing was flying in places, playing, saying good bye and coming back to work. Just felt different.

The song that introduced me to Godsmack and I've been a fan since then. The first time hearing it I thought it was a new Metallica song! Sully Erna sounds just like Hetfield on that song! You can hear it! This is why I tell you that your ear is a natural. Experimenting very much. This one is sitting on the edge of raw doggin. I've got a snare sample blended with the snare but there isn't a damn thing on the toms or kick. Admittedly it's a significantly bigger pain in the ass to do it that way because I'm in a room the size of where you raise a baby 🤣🤣🤣🤣. But fuck it, challenges are interesting. I just dig mixing Bryan.

It didn't smash in half but it was broken. It's happening so often I'm gonna have to switch models. I went lighter than a 5A just because my wrists appreciate the break (so to speak LOL!) but I have to bump back up to at least a 5A soon. It's too expensive. Sticks are running 11 bucks a pair in a damn brick in some cases - that's insane

Yeah dude, Sully is 5'4 on a good day if memory serves. I don't have any wild stories or anything. All I can say is I did interract with him many, many years ago and he was honestly very kind. But I remember watching him at that time and really being taken by surprise at what a great drummer he was / is.
