Thanks for the great unboxing Anthony! We love your channel and sincerely hope you lads will dig deeper and show off more of what the Atari VCS can do!
This brings a lot of memories and tears. My past away siblings had Atari but by the late 90s they had only the broken console and a joystick. They'd been talking highly about it when I was a child and I've always wanted to play the games they had played. Love Anthony and the retro time
One of the really cools things eventually coming to this is an program that will allow you to make your own 2600 style games for it and share them on the games store. That seems really cool to me.
Warlords was a damn good game. That one cart entertained me and my family for years back in the 1980's. What sucks is that it's hard to play it on a modern system because paddles don't exist anymore as a standard controller. Looking back, that was probably the very first game in which I spent over 100 hours playing. I didn't hit that many hours again till the Xbox 360.
I started writing a version for my ZX81, and while it was possible in a somewhat graphically limited form, I soon realised that without paddle controls it loses its playability.
@@doomedtoobscurity3965 That's after years and years of having that game. The last time I played it was in 1999 before I left for college. And we got the game right when it first came out around 1983?
@doomer boy i like anthony but people are *too* nice to him, it's a little weird tbh, every time he shows up 90% of the comments are about how great he is, it comes across as obsessive
Definitely want a full review. This thing is SICK! I owned the 2600 for a while along time ago and absolutely loved it! It was a big mistake selling it.
I am just curious why are there no Atari Jaguar or Atari Lynx games being released on the newer Atari VCS? I find it a bit odd that Atari would not take advantage of the older games. Many people do not or have not ever tried/owned a Lynx or a Jag and would love to try out some of the older games. Personally I think Atari might want to take a page from Nintendo's playbook like Nintendo's eshop. I see no reason why the Atari VCS would not be able to handle the emulation. I understand that perhaps it could be a licensing issue if Atari no longer owns the rights to the games it created for those consoles but if not a license issue than it is a missed opportunity.
As a VCS developer, I wish decent-sized channels would do something like a "best games on VCS". I understand the focus on the hardware. But for someone considering the console, the decision to buy it is pretty questionable without knowing the games on it BESIDES the classic Atari games. The library is quite small, which is something that gets mentioned often when talking about game streaming services, but that sometimes gets ignored with the VCS. It's a fair criticism. But I'd like to think you could take a positive spin on it and try some of the obscure indie games that are on the system to get a better sense for what you can expect to show up on the VCS down the line. It's obviously indie-focused, so it's important to know if there are games worth playing on it! (Spoiler: I think there are if you look for them.) Granted, I think the market for it is probably more in line with a Raspberry Pi than a typical game console. It's going to appeal to tinkerers because of the PC mode. But that's been covered by other reviewers. The big gap in coverage is with the games available on the VCS shop. It might not be the primary thing to attract people to the VCS, but as an added bonus for people who are on the fence, it's worth mentioning. And it certainly gives a better sense of the console's performance capabilities than showing off retro Atari games!
I see no compelling reason for this thing to exist other than to cash in on the (ridiculous) rose tinted nostalgia of the 'Baby Boomers' & 'Gen X' types who grew up playing the 2600 in the 70's & early 80's and who now have money to burn.
I liked the little lights around the Classic Controller stick, and doubly so after noticing the little fade effect when you successfully returned a shot!
I would love to just try this thing for a weekend so I could relive some of these classics with the vibrating controllers. that's a really nice touch honestly.
I love my Atari VCS especially since Atari released the pc mode dongle with all the emulators preconfigured to download. And it’s fun to get the few but fun little games off their eshop
"do not return it to the retail store" I did business with the retail store. It sure as hell is going back there when its not working. The retail store may deal with you, Atari.
They're basically saying that most people will try to return a broken product to the store past the return period. Then when the store tells them tough luck, they don't go any further with get the problem resolved. A huge prob of people don't inquire about warranty through the company, and they just chalk it up as a liar, and then it hurts the brand. Almost ever person I know, when I ask about something and they say it's broken, they almost never take advantage of the 1+ year manufacturer warrant.
Actually, what we totally mean is that 95% of the time whatever is happening can be troubleshot with the Atari support team to get you up and running quickly. (Probably more quickly than a trip back to the store.)
Ah brings back the good ol' stuffs. River Raid, Missile Command, Asteroids, Yars Revenge, Pitfall, Space Invaders, Adventure, and Combat ( it's all about dueling two players with tanks etc, Good stuffs haha )

Got mine as an early backer for just over £200. Well happy with it as a modding project, and already have the Alphacool PS3 waterblock on it with liquid metal. The only problem I've found with it so far is the restricted BIOS Power and DRAM settings. It'll only run JEDEC timings for the DDR4, and doesn't have hardware control for a standby/off through the installed "other OS". Makes installing windows a pain really. 😠 Should see the work the engineers put into the PCB too. Nice little Easter eggs all over it. 👍😎
I've seen other reviewers and they were just talking bad about it, and this is one of the few that liked it. Please go more into depth! The fact is that it's small, it might look good in an entertainment center, and people really underestimate what you can do with a CPU that doesn't have a lot of power. Even the weakest of today's dual-core CPUs can be used for some nice things.
GN review was quite positive, at least on the hardware level. It looks good, build quality isn't crappy, and the teardown showed good overall PCB and cooling design. I Honestly don't see this Running RPCS3 now maybe in the far future when the Emulator is optimize but given how weak the CPU is i just dont see it. RPCS3 is very CPU Heavy and loves High Cores and Threads. i just dont see this 2C 4T Zen 1 AMD Cpu doing the Job.
