    I thank you very much. I have two hundred laying adults and had no idea how to seed my colonies. I have four 50 black plastic bins that are not being used so I will start using them for colonies. Very interesting, informative video.

    Those exact same water crystals can be found in diapers too. :) If you don't have a bag of water crystals available for whatever reason, and you urgently need some, get your hands on a (of course unused!!) diaper, cheap brand or not doesn't matter, soak it in a bucket of water for awhile and cut the thing open. Extract the crystals and you're ready to go. :)
    Also, dry crumb for baby chicks is a perfect dry food for Dubia, as I found out. It's cheap and contains everything they need to grow into adults and thrive. As a source of water and variation in diet - and extra vitamins - I also supply them weekly with fresh fruit and veggies. Apples, oranges, pears, carrots, tomato, lettuce, ... anything that doesn't rot or stinks within a day goes into the Dubia bin. So banana and alike is a no go as well as any sorts of cabbage, those things rot and stink up the place extremely fast. Unless in very small amounts and placed into something so that it stays put at all time to be removed easily, I won't feed it to them. And I give them fruits and veggies only as much as they can eat in less than 24 hours, otherwise you'll end up with bits and pieces scattered around that WILL start to mold and destroy your colony.
    Cheers.

    Great video! Very informative! I've subscribed. Just a tip: if you're recording with a cell phone, turn the phone sideways, and the picture will fill the screen and not have the black bars on the sides. Take care.

I'm a long time animal guy, but only recently I've gotten into raising Tarantulas and Scorpions, so I've started a Red Runner colony, and will now be starting a Dubia colony, this really helped me a lot! I also raise Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches, but they're pets, they are safe from the claws and fangs 😁 My other pets are my dog, Milo and three Parakeets, Sonny, Gina and Trudy, my Miami Vice family lol I've subscribed to your channel, looking forward to lots of good info.

    • @MildlyVenomous
      @MildlyVenomous 5 лет назад +5

      Yuliya Collins if it’s low watt it shouldn’t melt, maybe warp it a bit but it shouldn’t melt. also i recommend you put your egg crates in a zigzag pattern, they get more ventilation that way. i’ve heard they can die from not enough ventilation in the egg crates.
      i also recommend, depending on the humidity where you live, to use circle-hole drills covered with mesh on the lid for ventilation (if you choose to use one.) don’t put any on the sides; as that lets in more light in and could let them climb up.
      i recommend watching more videos on dubia roaches, and you can stop once you aren’t learning anything new.
      you should keep them for at least 4-5 months before you start feeding them off if you wanna keep up a good count-some people recommend longer.
      sorry for the long comment, i’m just trying to educate a bit, also for people scrolling by.
      i wish you luck in your colony!

    Ok sorry I'm commenting a third time, but this warrants its' own comment. I keep hearing you're supposed to seperate the adults and nymphs because they'll produce more that way, which makes sense but it is a pain in the butt if you are pressed for space already. My thought was putting the nymphs in the bigger container because there's many and then seperating the two breeder pairs into 2 6qt bins just for now or should I put them all into the big one? On one hand I keep hearing to seperate, on the other I heard the nymphs eat the frazz from the adults and it's good for them. I guess I'll just put them together and keep my fingers crossed
