Nothing needs to be restored. He is his authentic self, he is healthy, he is happy, he is free. That's what's important, not masculinity, not what you think he should be like. That's a loveless way to treat somebody. A year in the Russian army would probably harm physically and psychologically any person, let alone somebody who hates that kind of stuff. I feel bad for you, that you are so unfree. That your concept of masculinity is so important to you that you rather suffer than not fit that image. It will never make you happy, it will never give you the love and acceptance you want (as we all do). Only being your true self and loving yourself can do that.
