- Alligator Records will release a smile-inducing new song on January 12th called “I Want My Dog To Live Longer (The Greatest Wish).” It’s from a new album called Rough Cut by Curtis Salgado and Alan Hager. We’re going to be creating a series of videos of this song featuring pictures of the cutest and most loveable dogs that are sent in by you to Alligator Records. Send a photo of your best four-legged friend to yourdog@allig.com. If you dog is chosen, you’ll be notified so you can tell your friends (and your dog’s friends). If you don’t have a dog, tell a friend who does!

Just lost my sweet baby girl last week. She was in my life over 13 years. Its hard, I miss her being at the door when I come home, sitting at my feet, going for daily walks.
Glad to see all the dog lovers out there who like the blues... I knew I was not alone.
I met a man at a farmers market. He was in a wheelchair. He stopped to pet my dog Opie. He said “God has made two mistakes. One is that avocado pits are too big and the other is that dogs have such short lives”.
I have a thought though. If dogs (and cats for that matter) lived longe, the shelters would be spilling over more than they do. There would be thousands (millions?) of dogs who never get to have forever homes. I’ve had 5 in my long life. I promise that I will always make a home for the next.
Serendipity recommended this song today. Our 19-yr-old doge just passed today. This song is perfect, and is both making my heart happy while also draining the feel-juice from my eyes.

I got to play at a local jam when Curtis came onstage. What a gracious humble man, I'll never forget that night, he thanked everyone of us jammers personally, and I never played better than when he fronted the band. LEGENDARY.
Our yellow lab is gonna’ be 14. She’s can’t hear, can’t walk right and can’t play in the ocean anymore. But she comes alive at dinner time and we’re grateful for that . . . And for your terrific song. Well done.
My shepherd mix was 14 when he passed in September. I still haven't gotten over it.
I love the song, the arrangement, the gritty guitar and the gravelly delivery, and I cannot dispute what it sings.
But, if my dogs had lived a lot longer, I wouldn't have had so MANY, wonderful canine companions to have shared this life-time with.
I'm 75, and have had, and loved, dogs since my earliest youth. I toted up all in my adulthood: there have been 14. With each, the experience has been unforgettable, but different. I think I now have my last dog (and he has me), for the duration, as we're both "elderbulls."

Lost my Boxer on the 18th of this month. She was 13. A week before she passed Shepard/husky mix had a knot show up on his head above his right eye. Took him to the vet and what I was hoping to be something simple turned out to be bone cancer. They gave Shadow 2 to 6 weeks. We are in the beginning of week three. Still eating and drinking but sleeping much more. He is 13 now and that is his life expectancy. A friend told me to check out this song. Love it. I just want my dog to live longer.

“…as she sits slowly departing…” - that turned on the tears. Two days ago I let my little girl dog go at the age of 10. I held her, slept next to her, and shared meals as osteosarcoma took her from me over the course of weeks. When the bone got too full of cancer it broke, and it was time. I came right to this song.

The reason dogs don't live so long...they are born with the immediate ability to give unbridled love while asking for nothing. Takes us humans decades to figure that out, hence why we live longer. Not my wisdom, from a story I read that a little boy said to his vet when they had to put their dog down. Hmmm, maybe kids get it too, but then they see how adults act...
Nice idea, Tim Grant, but you and I know it's not true. Dogs came to humans because we had food and fire. They exchanged their loyalty, alertness and protection, e.g. warning us long before we could know of the proximity of enemies for some of our food and warmth. Gradually we became friends and physical affection along with teaching and training became as important as the food.

Whenever a friend post they have lost their dog I send them this song to ease their pain. They are always touched by this thought.

I want my dog to live at least as long as I live. Dog's life span should be at least 85 years (human years). Mine is going on 13 years, and he is really feeling his age. It's just not fair. :(

We just adopted a puppy yesterday. We now have 3 rescued dogs in our home....

I quit my job because they wouldn't give me bereavement leave when my dog died.
No one here seems to presume that our beloved dogs spiritually live on to another time and, just like us, will ultimately want to move on to greater things... as peacefully as possible... when life inevitably melts down.
