I agree. It was never said for me to unload and load the dishwasher but I do, bring in the garbage can from the street and I just organized their pantry. I’d like to end up being household mngr and nanny at some point😢

Career nanny here. I completely agree. I do it all the time. It's better to pitch in with the little things than to be annoyed and let resentment build up

I’m a career nanny of almost 30 years. I love caring for children and I know that this type of help sounds like a good thing to do, however, where do you draw the line between “doing a few extra things” and “expanding your job description without added compensation”?
I’ve done this same thing at every job I’ve had. I’d notice things that need to be done and just do them in order to help out the family. What ends up happening is: I end up “knocking myself out” doing a lot of “extra” tasks that are NOT a part of my job description without any added compensation.
I’m happy to do an extra task, however, if they want this task done on an “as needed” or “a regular basis”, they can amend the job contract to add this new task in and adjust my hourly wage accordingly. Even though I’m happy to do an extra task…in the end..this is business. We are trying to make a living and pay bills just like everyone else. I allowed myself to be taken advantage of WAY too many times.
I wish people would try to see things from a nanny’s perspective.

That's why the two minute rule works. And if they start asking you to do more then you ask for a sit down talk to discuss your responsibilities.

Do you have any good resources to teach about doing all of this other stuff? I am very confident in my childcare abilities. I have a lot of experience and formal education. But as soon as I see things like cooking, meal prep, laundry, etc, on the job description, it makes me very nervous.
Obviously I know how to do those things in my own house, but I'm not confident that I'm doing them well enough to be paid for it 😂

We do not have any resource but I am sure if you do them in your own home and you have a discussion with your employer about expectations it will be fine.

Maybe discuss how you’ll be paid for doing extra things like that. I get all the extra stuff done While baby is asleep. These families really do count on us to help with the extra lol
