I did a week long road trip round the north of France last month and every biker I saw I got a greeting from - and returned it of course. Much easier than in the UK where we have to nod heads as we can't let go of the throttle. Just love the great attitude of "les motards" and I want to return next year :-)
+Stelvio Stelio Thank you! I'm glad you've enjoyed the attitude of "les motards". The way of greeting can change depending the country, but as far as I know, the bikers (most of them) are nice people everywhere... 😊
Thank you, good to know, I will remember it if ever I ride to Latvia, Tunisia, Spain or UK! 😊 Using the right leg is convenient as you can keep your hand on the throttle...
Haven't seen the leg thing in Germany. We just wave! ***** honking sounds like fun! But I'm better not doing it here in Germany, because nobody will know what it means!
What a great video MrKiddo! That was a real feel good 3:41. I've never seen the leg drop before, I think that's a great way to say hello or thank you, safer, both hands on the bars. I might try that here in Vancouver BC. see how it goes.
Thank you mike burrly, I'm glad you've enjoyed it. Maybe you would be the one who will launch the leg drop biker greeting in Vancouver, that would be awesome!!! 😊
the leg hello is new to me.. never seen it here in the US. we wave here all the time only. maybe i'll try the leg hello the next time i ride. it looks funny, almost like an insult.
This video makes the urge to buy a bike even bigger. I want a sort of bike, they call it a bobber/chopper. But i'm only allowed to drive it when I turn 24 years old. But when I drive my car I drive polite, when someone wants to merge i let them in, but when someone lets me in I use my 4 blinkers once. I also move closer to the edge of the road to let bikers pass. Life is great when they give a thumbs up or something like that.
+HoleshotPRO Nice behaviour! 👍🏻 If all the car drivers were like you, roads would be much more enjoyable... I'm glad you've enjoyed the video, and I hope you will soon be one of us with a beautiful bobber or chopper 😊
We don't have a lot of enthusiasts here but I see when I'm sure to greet them My favourite time was me sitting in a red light just distracted and a bike passed Infront of me without me noticing, the guy horned just to make sure I see his wave . What a lovely community
Respect! Full of humanity, thats what I love in this whole bikelife. In the close future i will get my first bike. Greetings from Polish guy in Sweden :)
I find so interesting the way you greet each other. In Brazil we use our horns but would be cool if we could use the same greet all over the world.Great video Mr. Kiddo, thanks for sharing.
I'm glad you've enjoyed it Andre Silva. You're right, that would be great to have an universal biker greeting sign. I think the V-sign with fingers is the most widely used worldwide. Your Brazilian greeting with horns is original, I have never seen that in Europe...
wow , what a GREAT spirit and unity. its so nice to see the motor cycle community respecting each other like that , if only the car drivers were the same.
always give fellow bikers a friendly nod when they pass each other in the uk. we share something unique and enjoy the ride rather than drive the commute in the car!.
Beautiful video, and so true. In the UK we nod heads at each other instead, with sometimes the odd wave, but the principle is the same. Everybody looks out for each other. I stopped in a lay by to have a cig the other day, and 2 separate bikers pulled in just to check all was ok. Love my bike and love how polite and helpful bikers are. Some might look a bit rough around the edges but I never met one who wasn't a good person!
Watching this intently because I'll be doing some riding in France in the summer. It appears both an extended leg and a low wave are acceptable. Is that right? Or do they mean different things? We don't do the extended leg in the UK. We also generally don't do waves because we ride on the left side of the road and that would mean waving with your right hand as someone passed -- taking your hand off the throttle. So people here tend to nod.
As Yannis Labéjof said, both leg and hand signs have the same meaning, and using the right leg is convenient as you can keep your hand on the throttle. Anyway, I wish you to have nice rides in France, ***** 😊
Three random statements: Originally the signal meant that the road is free (co cops, obstacles, accidents, ...). People who don't ride on the right side of the road can only nod their head, since they need the hand on the throttle. Sadly many people don't know the leg signal, especially car drivers; it might seem agressive to them.
Hahaha, maybe you would be the one who launch it in your country... 😄 Anyway, using the right leg is convenient as you can keep your hand on the throttle.
Hello! The yellow one is a Laser Breva LX Visibility. I think it has been discontinued, but I wouldn't have recommended it anyway. The built quality is disappointing compared to my other helmets 😉
Thank you and welcome jofr4! And also thanks to RJ for having promoted my channel. Indeed, according to many comments here, it seems that the biker waving habit is different depending the country...
On the subject of friendly riders, I hit the jackpot the other week. Older guy on a big mean Harley initiated a very non-discreet and excited wave to me coming the other way. Caught me by massive surprise, but despite being in the middle of a bend I managed to get a quick wave back.
Love this. In the UK we only really nod the head, maybe raise a hand when passing. Foot out is a new one but I like it, will start doing it as well as dropping the hand/arm
clanmac66 We nod also in France, but I haven't shown it in the video as it's not videogenic. The leg out is convenient as it's more visible than the nod and allows to keep the hand on the throttle. Ride safe too!
nice video ;) I really like the friendship between bikers because they don't even know each other. I wonna ride a motorcycle too, but 18 is too young in Belgium ;)
Thank you Jakob Cools! Indeed, we don't know each other but we all form a community, and even if you're still too young now, I'm sure you will also be a part of it soon...
+The Miniature Scenes Yes, using the leg is convenient at it allows to keep the hand on the throttle. We also nod our head in France, but mostly at low speed, or when stopped at the lights. Good to know that Irish bikers also have this tradition :)
Awesome video!:) i need to get my bike licence and stuff, being on the back of my dads bikes and people doing this was such a cool epic feeling ! :P even though i wasnt riding
Tom Sharpe Used to ride on the back of my dads bike, too and now just 2 or 3 months away from finally getting my liscence and it's worse than all the waiting time before your bithdays compared together >.
this is why we do it! beautiful video. I'm grinning like an idiot, but I'm loving it! very fitting soundtrack! it's a beautiful day, a beautiful ride with your two-wheeled brothers on the road. #jesuismotard
Hey man great vid, just discovered your channel. I use the leg "Hello" if I can't wave. Do "Les Flics" on their motorcycles say hello in France? Peace from the UK.
Thank you and welcome Glen Pierce! "Les flics" on their motorcycles rarely wave spontaneously at the other bikers, but they often answer when we wave at them... À la prochaine, Peace from France :)
Thank you BMWK75Rider. I actually have 4 helmets but only 2 of them have the GoPro mount. The black one is a Shark S900C, it's my everyday helmet, and I'm very satisfied with it. The yellow one is a Lazer Lx Visibility that I have bought for its color, it's ok for a city use but it's too noisy on the highway. Before each ride, I choose between them depending of my mood and my needs.
I used to see lots of bikers use the leg gesture on my commute as well eventually I assumed it was a thank you when I gave them way, then my french work colleague confirmed my assumption :)
I was thinking it's a common practice in many countries, but a lot of viewers have commented hereunder that they don't use their legs for greeting in their country... So it's maybe only a French thing! Hey guys, is there anyone here living outside France and greeting with his legs???
MrKiddo According to my observations it's a quite common thing at least in Central Europe. Though normally the left hand is used to greet oncoming traffic the legs are often used to greet or thank e.g. while lane splitting or filtering (i.e. situations when you don't want put your hands off your handle bar).
MrKiddo Though I am surprised how friendly they are in Paris! In bigger cities (or other places with a high concentration of motorcycles) there isn't so much greeting going on normally.
Nor Treblig I don't think they are that friendly in Paris, compare to the "countryside" where it seems to be a lot more "connections" between bikers. I think MrKiddo has compiled most of them here ;) Main reason for this I'd say, is that there are too many bikers around and you would have your hand or leg constantly off your handlebars or footpegs ;)
I'd like very much to travel to South Africa! So hopefully, we will meet one day and ride motorcycles together in France or in South Africa. One day...
This is so awesome! Cannot wait to start riding. Two questions: 1) Why is this a tradition? 2) Why are you always getting passed? ;) I'll settle for the answer for #1 :)
Thank you BoomerE30. No problem, 2 questions, so 2 answers... #1) It's a tradition because bikers keep waving each others from generation to generation, it's a part of our biker way of life; #2) I pass and get passed, as every biker. But when I wave a fellow biker that I have just passed, the greetings are behind me, while the camera is recording the road in front of me... In such a case, there is nothing interesting to show in the video.
This is strange to me because in the US I've never seen anyone stick their leg out to say hi, haha. Its always a wave or peace sign. Occasionally a nod if someone is on the clutch
Respect it :) nice sign tho, maybe i can use my leg for my new sign xD in my city, if we met a fellow biker, we use our exhaust as a signal for say "hello" and "thank you " :D
No problem SAMUEL fincher, you're free to ask! Usually the biker who is passing does the sign to thank the one being passed for having opened the way. The one who is passed can do a sign before (meaning "Hello, I have seen you, you can pass me") or after, as an answer (meaning "you're welcome").
Thanks for answering. Here in America I see bikers waving and doing polite things like that just like in France. We don't do the foot wave, though I love the concept. Mostly people on Harleys are the ones who wave because they respect other bikers. Keep up the great videos!
This video makes me sad. Over here in Scotland it's very cold and some snow just now, hardly any bikes out and about just now, it's just too dangerous. Roll on spring!
Oh my poor friend... It was not supposed to make you sad, Jo. dj6vnb0j ! 😔 Spring will be here soon and you've amazing roads with such beautiful landscapes in Scotland 😊
The biker wave is indeed a very nice gesture. Makes us feel part of a bigger community :) I never felt alone in my solo rides.
Absolutely :)
This video gave me chills! Thanks for sharing. Ride safe!
This is why bikers are AWESOME!
Frost zk Yes, we are awesome 😄
MrKiddo : Yeah dude, anyway check my Daily Observation Cambodian version.
This is what i love about bikers!! Realy makes it fun! leg is new for me!
Yes, our community is fantastic! 😊
Using the right leg for is convenient as you can keep your hand on the throttle...
MrKiddo haha yes i figured!
in UK we also use head gesture
smart sticking leg out to say hello! when i was new to riding i found it very hard to wave back at others while turning corners
Yes, using the leg is a convenient solution in many situations :)

Absolutely fantastic video MrKiddo! Loved the thanks with the leg also, I've never seen that before.
Thank you KieranBain. Thanking with the leg is convenient as it allows to keep the hand on the throttle...
MrKiddo Yeah it's really awesome. Never seen it in the U.K. before, I shall try to start it haha
Biker code at it's best !!! Great vid ... safe riding guys !!!! greetings from Spain
+Stingercam21 Glad you've enjoyed the video, ride safe too, and greeting from France :)
Really love these types of videos :) first time seeing the leg thing, in latvia we only use our hands :)
First time for me too! ( Tunisia ) this is amazing
no leg thing in spain or uk just hands
Thank you, good to know, I will remember it if ever I ride to Latvia, Tunisia, Spain or UK! 😊 Using the right leg is convenient as you can keep your hand on the throttle...
***** Interesting... So different from what we do here! 😊
Haven't seen the leg thing in Germany. We just wave!
***** honking sounds like fun! But I'm better not doing it here in Germany, because nobody will know what it means!

It's videos like these that make me stoaked to take my first steps towards two wheels in March!
Ride safe MrKiddo!
Thank you LiamStroudy09, I wish you as much good times on a bike as I have. Ride Safe 😊
I live in canada and we always put our hands out ...well most of us ..lol....never saw the leg out thing kind of cool ..
So the Canadian motorcycle riders are polite too... Most of them... :)
yes sir ..lol
This makes me happy. Wish we'd do that here in London. I give a rider a nod whenever I see one.
Cheers! Glad to know that British bikers also greet each others :)
This video is an awareness punch about biker etiquettes ..kudos pal.
Thanks :)

the leg hello is new to me.. never seen it here in the US. we wave here all the time only. maybe i'll try the leg hello the next time i ride. it looks funny, almost like an insult.
As it's pretty common in Continental Europe, it doesn't look insulting to us 😉
This video makes the urge to buy a bike even bigger. I want a sort of bike, they call it a bobber/chopper. But i'm only allowed to drive it when I turn 24 years old. Thank you Zacarias Benta! I haven't found any other music that fits so well with this video... 😄

Really nice video!
I miss my bike so much ... hurry up spring!
Thank you kinkin82. Winters seem so long for bikers storing their bikes...
Indeed , there isn't hello in his right hand, because of the throttle . So the leg acts hello.
As Yannis Labéjof said, both leg and hand signs have the same meaning, and using the right leg is convenient as you can keep your hand on the throttle. Anyway, I wish you to have nice rides in France, ***** 😊
Mrkiddo, do you use the leg greet when you see in your mirrors that a rider is passing you? cant see it in the vid.
Janol Sometime, not always... I do it when I want the other rider to be sure that I've seen him and that he can pass me safely.
Yeah bikers are kind to bikers because we are all friends :)
Absolutely :)

Thank you Wanderlust8760 😊
Indeed, it took me a long time for editing this video...
You are awesome mrkiddo!! that vid makes me feel great as a biker!
Thank you very much DVR 24! 😊
Wow, this was really cool :D In the UK it's usually a helmet nod.
Thank you +Storm, glad you've enjoyed it! :)
A wave 👍🏼 from an Indian biker to all the bikers around 🏍
Ride safe bro :)

Right, thank you Kalimerakis 😊
We also nod sometime our heads in France, but I haven't shown it on the video because it's less videogenic!
MrKiddo yes, we do the same in austria if the left hand is busy
Cant wait to ride and show my new hey hows it going leg acknowledgement. ..thats new to me!!
Hahaha, maybe you would be the one who launch it in your country... 😄 Anyway, using the right leg is convenient as you can keep your hand on the throttle.

Here, the stretching leg means "Owww, my knee :(" :3
Hey man, what helmet are you wearing if I may ask? I currently have a hiviz one, too, but I'm always looking for new helmets :D
Hello! The yellow one is a Laser Breva LX Visibility. I think it has been discontinued, but I wouldn't have recommended it anyway. The built quality is disappointing compared to my other helmets 😉
this is fantastic mate! Miss this here...
Thank you sjbali 😊 There is always so much 2-wheelers around you in your videos in Bali, I guess it's just impossible to wave them all...
MrKiddo
yeah impossible here, up the mountains sometimes, if i see a lonely biker crossing my way, on my daily commute there is no use
Damn Kiddo this clip is Beautiful
Thank you very very much sxswamy 😊
The best ride when you respect each other.. Nice Ride safe my brother...✌️
Cheers, ride safe too mate :)
Nice vid! Loved the peace sign from the scooterrider at 2:20 :)
Thank you Maurice de Ruiter! Yes, the "waving scooter" also surprised me, but that was nice, so I have added him in the video 😊
Hehe, sadly in Portugal i dont see it very much :/, but great video, RoyalJordanian bring me here!
Thank you and welcome jofr4! And also thanks to RJ for having promoted my channel. Indeed, according to many comments here, it seems that the biker waving habit is different depending the country...

Great vid, I forgot how friendly bikers really are....

never seen such "leg" greetings) greetings from Moscow)
Spasiba! 😊 The leg greetings is very convenient as you can keep your hand on the throttle. Greets from Paris.
On the subject of friendly riders, I hit the jackpot the other week. Older guy on a big mean Harley initiated a very non-discreet and excited wave to me coming the other way. Caught me by massive surprise, but despite being in the middle of a bend I managed to get a quick wave back.
It's good you've been able to answer! 😊
Cool video. I liked it..... 'Waving from Australia!'
Thank you primatecbr1100, I'm glad you have liked it ✌️
Love this. In the UK we only really nod the head, maybe raise a hand when passing. Foot out is a new one but I like it, will start doing it as well as dropping the hand/arm
Cheers! That would be awesome if you could introduce in the UK new ways for greeting other bikers ✌🏻
haha, this video made me damn happy! awesome, and thanks for sharing!
Glad you've enjoyed it! Thank YOU for watching and commenting :)
Seems like a lot of waving in a big city like Paris :) Great video ;)
However, the French from other cities keep saying that we do wave less than them in Paris... Thank you Darmok si 😊
Merci 93SwissRider 😊
I love being a motorcyclist.
That makes the life so spicy... I can't imagine myself not riding anymore! 😊
Au top la vidéo !
Super montage, vraiment top continue j'ai adoré !
Merci beaucoup Alex Térieur! Passe le bonjour à ton frère Alain Térieur 😄
MrKiddo J'y manquerais pas xD
Oh, my country doesn't have this gesture. Cool!
In the UK we tend to nod our heads to each other, except to scooter riders?? I nod to anyone with two wheels and an engine :o)

clanmac66 We nod also in France, but I haven't shown it in the video as it's not videogenic. The leg out is convenient as it's more visible than the nod and allows to keep the hand on the throttle. Ride safe too!
Awesome video dude!

I am from Brisbane Australia , I give either a wave but mostly I tilt the helmet as a sign of Hi😎
Thanks for the info, glad to know that the Aussie bikers also greet each other :)
Leg is interesting. In Ireland it's a nod of the head.
+The Miniature Scenes Yes, using the leg is convenient at it allows to keep the hand on the throttle. We also nod our head in France, but mostly at low speed, or when stopped at the lights. Good to know that Irish bikers also have this tradition :)

In Poland using leg signs is extremly rare.
Thanks for the info :)

Merci pour l'info! :-)
I used to see lots of bikers use the leg gesture on my commute as well eventually I assumed it was a thank you when I gave them way, then my french work colleague confirmed my assumption :)
Yes, we also do a leg or hand sign to thank the car drivers who give us way. You can see an example in the video at 03:02 😊
Funny, I have never saw the stretched leg thing in any of the other motovlogging videos. Is that common practice or just in France?
I was thinking it's a common practice in many countries, but a lot of viewers have commented hereunder that they don't use their legs for greeting in their country... So it's maybe only a French thing!
Hey guys, is there anyone here living outside France and greeting with his legs???
MrKiddo According to my observations it's a quite common thing at least in Central Europe. Though normally the left hand is used to greet oncoming traffic the legs are often used to greet or thank e.g. while lane splitting or filtering (i.e. situations when you don't want put your hands off your handle bar).
Thank you, Nor Treblig... Good to know! So it's similar in France and Central Europe.
I think MrKiddo has compiled most of them here ;)
Main reason for this I'd say, is that there are too many bikers around and you would have your hand or leg constantly off your handlebars or footpegs ;)
i love real nice people like bikers who always help
(what is this song)
Cheers! It's "Beautiful Day" from U2
I miss Paris :'(
Greetings from South Africa
I'd like very much to travel to South Africa! So hopefully, we will meet one day and ride motorcycles together in France or in South Africa. One day...
This is so awesome! Cannot wait to start riding. Two questions:
1) Why is this a tradition?
2) Why are you always getting passed? ;)
I'll settle for the answer for #1 :)
Thank you BoomerE30. No problem, 2 questions, so 2 answers...
#1) It's a tradition because bikers keep waving each others from generation to generation, it's a part of our biker way of life;
#2) I pass and get passed, as every biker.
Using the leg is convenient: it's more visible than a nod, and you can keep your hands on the throttle and clutch...
Excellent video, touching stuff. Ride safe!
Thank you, ride safe too! :)
weird, i've never seen the leg been used as anything other than a warning sign for debris on the roadway.
SimpleVillain It's also used in order to say "Hello" or "Thank you" in France and some other European countries...
Respect it :)
nice sign tho, maybe i can use my leg for my new sign xD
in my city, if we met a fellow biker, we use our exhaust as a signal for say "hello" and "thank you " :D
It's also nice to greet each other with the exhaust! :)
+MrKiddo yeah right, although sometimes there is are also not viewed greeting us but we still greeted with a happy heart as a biker
:D
So in France, when another biker is passing you, do you give a hand or leg sign or do they only do it. I'm American so I don't know.
What does the leg mean? Like a 'thank you'?
Fofus Exactly! All is explained in the description...
Superbe vidéo! ça met la banane dès le matin :)
Merci Shinji Ikari, ravi que ça te fasse cet effet 😄
This video makes me sad. Over here in Scotland it's very cold and some snow just now, hardly any bikes out and about just now, it's just too dangerous. Roll on spring!
Oh and in Scotland we usually always nod or a left handed wave.
Oh my poor friend... It was not supposed to make you sad, Jo. dj6vnb0j ! 😔 Spring will be here soon and you've amazing roads with such beautiful landscapes in Scotland 😊
