This is one of several recordings I have of Brian Sharp at the Catford Town Hall. These Good Friday concerts were organized by The Lewisham Organ Centre from 1976 1983 where Brian Sharp and the Kawai T5 on its four Leslie 710 cabinets were the main attraction. It was only a matter of days before the 1978 concert was to take place that the rhythm section of the T5 developed a fault. Les Hill who was the MD of The Lewisham Organ Centre made arrangements for a live drummer, and as his manager Ron Strong had a son who was a very talented drummer it was decided that Dave Strong should accompany Brian. The two had never played together before the concert and had very little time in rehearsal to get everything 100% so on some songs there are a few mistakes but hey its live!

@SilverHammond - I seem to remember that we had the T5 on 4 Leslie 710's for these concerts - each output from the T5 was split into two via a splitter box. The recording just does not do the performance justice - I can remember sitting in the front row during setting up and rehearsals and being blown away by the sound. Something 30 years later I wish I could listen to again in the flesh!!

+Anthony Bishop - I learnt so much from Brian and his music over the years and will be eternally grateful for that privilege. I have many more hours of his recordings that I will endeavor to get transferred from cassette so it can be enjoyed by all.

I could never get my Lowrey to sound as rich as that! Mind you it was as old as the hills!

The Kawai T5 in this recording is the perfect example of how a trained ear ( and not necessarily academic, but simply years of careful listening) can tell the difference between superb quality and unrefined digital garbage. So Brian played some monophonic synth lines. So what? The fact is that this organ is solid. It was so well designed and you can hear it. I haven't heard anything digital come close to the tone I hear from the T5, even on this so called dated recording. Certainly not on a Lwry

Sounds like a Lowrey? Like heck it does. The T5 had an almost unique sound, shared only with the prototype T6 and the smaller (no strings or 3rd manual).
It won't work properly on one 710 (that manual's wrong!) as it's a 3 channel organ and the strings are stereo. So you need two.

I'll have to redo all of those recordings as I don't have copies. :( I will get around to it but it will take a while, lots of other projects in front of that.

Hey Andy, do you still have those T50 songs you had posted on The Organ Forum years ago? You had hosted them on zshare back around 2007. I tried to find them, and I guess Zshare went down because the links no longer worked.
