I had so much fun with Kellie. I realized how much I missed quilt shows when you could walk around booths and discover new products. I can’t wait to take a couple of these rulers for a test drive. Enjoy
I love Silly Moon Rulers! Each one is so clever. I appreciate how she includes the grip tape to stick on.
I made my first quilt in 1984. I laid out my fabric, used a yard stick and and ink pen to draw out my squares and triangles, and cut them out with scissors, lol. My fabrics were the left overs after making clothing while I was in college to save money and from cutting off my jeans to make them into shorts for the summer. I had a job after college that allowed me to have Saturdays off, the first time in my life. I couldn't afford cable TV yet, so could get only 2 channels, one was PBS where I saw women making quilts!
Karen, I love the quilt behind you. This was one of my favorite interviews you have done for a multitude of reasons. Thank you for breathing life and energy into sewing!
Such a fun interview with Kellie! I am very interested in learning to quilt my tops with rulers. Karen, I just love your show so much!!!! Thank you for everything you do for us. AND, I am really looking forward to the Quilting Marine next time!!!!! His channel helped me out when I was just beginning to quilt!
I love 3D printing too! As well as quilting obviously. It's fun to just keep exploring all these creative endeavors. So glad Silly Moon Quilting didn't go down with the pandemic. Cheers to your hard work and success!
I have the Bernina 930 I bought in the 80’s and I wouldn’t part with it. Love it.
Great interview with Kellie . Thank you Karen
I loved meeting Kellie at Quilt Canada this year. I just finished her beginner class online and it was fantastic!
She seemed so sweet. Thank you for sharing.
Congratulations Kellie ❣️ what fun and an excellent interview 👍🏼👍🏼 📏 📐 work rocks 😘
Thank you Nancy!!
Another great interview thanks again Karen.
I love this woman. Her life is a story of giving, making her the perfect quilter. The company logo and name are so adorable.
Aww, thank you so much for your kind words :)
Loved this interview! Thanks for all you do.
Another great interview!
I’m Canadian and I’m always looking for Canadian Quilters and/or suppliers. Keep’m coming!
I’m going to check out Kellie’ classes online. I already see differences in her rulers that will help my quilt journey. Thanx Karen!
Brilliant, interesting, and talented guest-a real inspiration for entrepreneurs.
Aww shucks, thanks so much!! I do have fun with what I do lol
You are right! No matter how many quilts I longarm, all the designs and ideas are just gone!!! I thought it was just me. Great interview, as always.
Right? I have it planned and then once the quilt is done, I draw a blank!
Absolutely great interview thx for all your hard work!
Never was good at Math, eyesight challenged but excited that some figures are worked out, stress free. Loved Kellie’s energy and now off to visit her website. Will sign up!!
Oh, I am not good at math either, that is why I let the rulers do the work for me! Hope to see you in class!
I have her tear drop rulers in all sizes and they are so fun and easy to use
Thank you Ellen :)
This is so cool -- and just a little daunting. turning a hobby into a business adds a level of pressure to the hobby. I love your all in story!
It does add pressure, but with that comes the opportunity to mees some pretty awesome people and try new things! I always said I will keep my brain busy until the end of my days! Alzheimer's took my Mom, but I am going to fight it tooth and nail lol
Great interview! I have had a Bernina for 33 years and taught sewing to high schoolers for many years with Berninas. I always marveled that the tension never got out of wack even with all the diffferent users! I am a lover of Berninas! Thanks for your many, many, wonderful videos. I visit them over and over and always learn.❤️
Another great interview! I keep thinking that the quilt world has been stagnant the last few years (compared to 2015 - 2018) with less innovative techniques, but you keep bringing it! Thank you. Now I'm off to Kellie's website.
Thank you for heading to my website! Let me know if I can help in any way :)
@@sillymoonquiltingco.9577 can't tell you how exciting your products are; you've already replied to a question I sent you re: your Zoom classes! I am sharing your website and my excitement with others! Thanks!
@@TheHawkeyeQuilter thank you so much!
Have never had an interest in ruler work.. until now. Karen's channel was the first quilting RUclips site I looked at during covid and it is still my favorite so I trust her when she has a guest. Glad I did today and I will now explore these classes too. Rulers, who knew. Thank you both for a great video.
Thank you! Ruler work is so fun, I would love to see you in a class!
Hi Karen, as usual, this interview is very interesting. It is amazing how everything fell into place for this new company. So far I have stayed aware from quilting with rulers but after watching this video I will re-think about using them! Many thanks!
Absolutely terrific interview!
I thoroughly enjoyed your video with Kellie,I didn’t want it to end .. you have such wonderful guests and looking forward to interview with The Quilting Marine..thank you so much .
Thank yo Margaret!
I hand quilt and have for over 30 years, love working with my hands. Interesting interview, thanks!
This was a wonderful interview, thank you so much. I’m so happy to learn that she does Zoom classes, I’ve been wanting to learn how to use rulers on my domestic machine and this is perfect. I’m off to check out her classes and rulers ❤️❤️❤️
Donna, let me know if I can help in anyway :)
Excellent interview! Thank you, Karen! I will definitely check out the information about classes and quilting with rulers! Kelly is so inspiring!
Thank you so much Penka! Let me know if you have any questions about classes or rulers :)
Kellie Kaczmarek is my sister and I am SO proud of her!
She’s amazing ❤️
Another wonderful interview! I am thinking of how I am going to quilt my first bed size quilts (TwinXL) and rulers might be what I want to do. 🙂
Great talk Karen. I’ve never used a ruler but now I’m considering it. Thank you
Omgeeee yes!!! How frustrating it is not to get ideas when you want them! Wow….just a universal conundrum! I do love to collect Pinterest images for ideas.
I am so excited about the rulers and classes. I desperately need to learn FMQ. I can’t wait.
Kellie, you were so much fun to listen to, love your honesty. Thank you both for a very informative interview, I learned so many great suggestions I had never thought about.
Thank you Joan! I appreciate your kind words!
Just loved this series you did with the ruler lady 😀
I bought Rocket on Kellie’s recommendation at a quilt show in Chiliwack. It’s my go to.
YAY So glad you like it Sharon!
Great interview!! She is so down to earth and shares her fears and shortcomings which is awesome! I love the same quilters that she learned with and I also learned with them from RUclips. I wish you and Kellie many more happy years of success and quilting!!
Thank you so much! I do tend to wear my heart on my sleeve! I always tell my students that they will learn so much about quilting with rulers and my as I like to talk lol! Take care!
Thank you for this great interview! I am not quite to the point where I can get a longarm, but will be there soon! I will be checking out Silly Moon Quilt rulers! I love the kind spirits in the quilting world, thank you, Karen, for introducing us to so many of them.
Thank you! The beauty of our rulers is you don't need a longarm ;) Let me know if you have any questions :)
Tiffany, you don't need a long arm. Almost any machine has a ruler foot available. If you can drop your feed dogs and your machine has a ruler foot, check your manufacturer's website.
Wonderful job! It has always been a pleasure to work with Kellie!
You as well my friend
Hi Karen! Loved your interview, there’s so much to learn, thank you for sharing it. Looking forward to your next interview 😊
Thank you for the interview. It was interesting and may push me into tackling the quilting part of quilt-making!
It's a shame the multiple ad breaks in the interview videos break the flow 😊.
This was such a fun interview. I have been afraid of rulers. I’m going to watch some of her videos and maybe give it it a try! Thanks.
So nice to see and hear Kellie talk about her rulers. I recently received my two rulers from her, having used them yet but I will be in the near future.
The shear fact that they’re Canadian was me a definite calling card. Love ruler work and in the learning stages. The next best thing would be to find her rulers in local area stores of central Ontario. Thanks for sharing 👍❤️😊
Thank you Carmen!
I was at that Quilt Show in Chilliwack in 2018, and purchased the ruler with the circles in it...!
Thank you!!
Great interview, thank you both!
Certainly enjoyed this interview, have purchased several of silly moon rulers, a great purchase and great to deal with on line. Highly recommend.
Thank you so much Gretchen
Great interview!! Sounds like her class is what I need to get me going. 😊
Come and join me!! Let me know if you have questions!
I'm going to check out her website right now. I'm very intimated by FMQ but intrigued about using rulers. Thanks for a great interview.
She has tutorials too
Some people find rulers a little easier than FMQ as there is already a "guide" for them to follow. Come and join my beginner class and we will get you loving rulers ;)
Great idea to sew without thread to check the design!!!
That was an absolute LIGHTBULB moment for me, too!
Great interview! I can’t wait until Silly Moon rulers are available in the US.
Hi Debra, they are available in the USA! I have a new retailer in Indiana who has her first order on the way to her! Her store name is True Cotton Co in Carmel Indiana :)
@@sillymoonquiltingco.9577 Oh good! I’ll look them up!
Quilting fast is my biggest issue, I think. I keep seeing people on youtube just absolutely zipping along or the youtube video is sped up to get to the end result shot instead of the actual ruler work in real time. I have the worst time figuring out the best speed for me.
Thank you for this interview, it was very informative and relatable.
That was a big issue for me too
Suzanne, I will tell you a secret - any RUclips videos or reels you see - the maker has practiced that several times and has the ability to edit what you see as well as speed up the video! Take your time, go at your pace and just play! Let me know if I can help!
Great interview! Have taken classes with Kelly, and just loved it !
Thank you Lucie
Great video. Thank you.
Karen and Kellie
👏👏👏 being an all kinds of crafts/sewing person my whole life…I’ve completed 3 quilts and ohhhhhh so many more on my wannado list!!!
Thank you so much for this interview, it ended just way to soon🤔😝
I just LOVE dude, where can I find him, as I think I want more than one🤪
Again Thank You for all that y’all do ❤️😀
Thanks so much Rachel! You can purchase Dude from one of my awesome retailers (which are listed on my website) or on my website directly.
Terrific interview! I want to take a class and check out her videos.
Yes, please join us :)
Super interview!
thank you
Ok.so I don't comment on your tubers clothes (why would I?) But that blue top on u with that gorgeous scarf is your color. Very pretty. Great interview btw.
Thank you
I recently bought my first Silly Moon rulers and I just love them! Had scoured the internet for a replacement straight ruler for the one I chipped at the local APQS shop (Oopsy!) and had to get some “fancier” ones for myself!
Thank you Cassandra, I am so glad you are happy with your rulers!
Great interview with Kellie. Congratulations Kellie for starting a business out of need with support of a great partnership with your husband. Wondering where in Australia is the store stocking your rulers. Thanks. Julie Sydney Australia 💞🇦🇺
Thank you Julie! I am very fortunate to have the support of my hubby, friends and family! I have one store in Australia that currently carries my products and that is "My Fabricology"
Thanks for asking the questions that I was thinking about. I have a machine that I bought from Amazon. I really want to try free motion. Now I am at the point where Kellie is saying that you shouldn't use a quilting foot. So now I am thinking ARGHH!
Maybe take a class with her
I think she was saying not to use a free motion quilting foot with rulers. Quilting feet are made to hold the fabric so that you can see where you are free motion quilting. The sides aren't thick enough to be safe with rulers. Feet made for ruler work have higher sides to keep the ruler from going over or under the foot.
Thank you. That makes sense. I suppose it would be an easier solution for me to get to know all of the tricks before I try something that I don't actually know too much about, and making a mess of my sewing machine. But I am very happy that you replied.
Looking forward to John's "There's No Place Like Home" ... starting on September 1st!
I just had an opportunity to see a few of the Quiltcon quilts. Amazing! Curious why they are all flat. It took me awhile it actually see what was different ; as I’m a traditional quilter. Is this typical of Modern Quilting? Would appreciate your any info.. thanks
Another great interview!
Very informative interview and well done! I’ve been wanting to explore rulers using my Handiquilter sweet 16. Will they work on the 16?
Thank you and absolutely they will work on the 16!! You will want a ruler base for your machine if you do not have one and you will want to make sure you order the 1/4" rulers :)
Thank you Karen for the wonderful interview. May I ask about the quilt behind you?? It's so colorful.
It’s my STASHBUSTER #9
Thank you!!!
Very interesting, thank you.
I love Karens Quilt Circle! I have not used any rulers be it fmq or on the Cutie frame. To scared. I heard her say that she recommends a class first, but I don't know anyone here that teaches fmq with rulers. If she gets into the US, please let me know!
I'm trying to find the episode on Karen's quilt circle. When the person talked about a magnifying circle that you attached to your long armor machine so you can see your your needle to thread it. Thank you for your help!
Wondered if you took suggestions on future interviews?? I'd love to hear you talk with Rob Appell from stitch'n heaven
Great interview! Will Kelly be at any shows in the states?
I will not be at any shows in the states in the near future. You can however, purchase my rulers from my USA retailers - they are listed on my website :)
Thank you
Glass or two or case...of wine!!😅
Could you please tell me the name of the shop in Australia that sells these rulers
My Fabricology is the store in Australia that currently stocks my products :) If they do not have what you are looking for, send them an email and they will get it for you!
As always I enjoyed ur interview but I couldn’t understand what she meant by the rulers. I wish she had shown us an example. When I think of rulers I just think of the ones a quilter does to put on the fabric & cut straight.
Rose.
Go to her website for more information.
She has lots of information
No matter what I do I seem to get terrible eye lashing on the back of my quilting. Not sure how to stop that happening.
Is this when you are doing ruler work? If so, try lowering your ruler foot. Feel free to email me and I will help you troubleshoot!
@@sillymoonquiltingco.9577 sadly it is any type of free motion quilting. My stitches can appear very uniform on top, tried sewing different speeds but still I get eyelashes. My brother is great for sewing clothes and piecing but I cannot get it to FMQ. Thanks for the ruler advice but I need to get my basics fixed before I try a ruler. May get my mum’s old machine out and see if I fair better with that one.
@@KnitzyKitzy Oh, that is so frustrating! Firstly, if the trouble appears on the back, it is likely your top thread that is causing the issue. A few things to try: Change your needle, try a different type of thread - if you are using cotton thread, try a poly thread ( I use Glide, but there are other options out there). give your machine a really good clean including tension discs. When you free motion, if you have a speed adjustment on your machine lower that (I keep mine in the middle speed for free motion and ruler work). Another common issue is that people move their hands a little too fast and the machine can't keep up. If all that fails, play with the tension (top and in the bobbin) Hope this helps :)
Thanks for the advice. I’ll try moving my hands slower to see if that helps! No tension adjustment on my top loading bobbin but my mother’s machine is old school. Thanks for taking the time to reply again.
😊👍
You talk a lot about Quilt Con or Can . . . When is it? Can anyone attend?
Quilt Con is in Atlanta in Feb 2023. QuiltCanada is in Halifax in June 2023
I love Dude. How can I get one?
Hi Patsy, you can purchase Dude from one of my awesome retailers (listed on my website) or directly from my website :)
I thought those earrings were blue and purple snowmen until you asked about them.
