Ana, my daughter is a freshman living on campus at Columbia. The entire campus - mostly all the lawns, is now occupied by the NYPD since they raided Hamilton Hall that night. the announcement about graduation being cancelled has stunned us all because NYPD have been there day and night and there are NO PROTESTS on campus. So, why is Shafik still canceling graduation on campus?

The demographics of anti-Israel protestors tend towards religious tolerance and freedom, wanting Palestinians and Israelis to have equal political, social, and economic rights, regardless of their origins, beliefs or religious practices. Israel's discriminatory laws are systematically evicting and segregating Palestinians for the benefit of Jewish Israelis. Worse, Israel is choosing to slaughter the people of Gaza rather than acknowlege their rights as equals and grant its people fair government representation. 24 Palestinians are being killed for every 1 Israeli who is being killed, emphasizing the disparity in the scale of violence exercised by Palestine and Israel.

The University blamed it on the protestors, but the reason why they canceled graduation is because the president was meant to give the speech and given her betrayal of the students and University’s commitment to protests, she knew she would be booed.
Fact: they have chased Jews on campuses. The stabbed a girl in the eye. They’ve fought the police. They blocked jewish students from getting to their classes. In addition, while they are protesting for Palestine, they are simultaneously lobbying for forgiveness of all Student Loans. All Governmental funding for Higher Education must cease immediately. At this time, Higher Education is proving to be a miserable investment. One prominent elected Federal Official, has repeatedly stated that she can not afford to pay back her 17k Student Loan, while her Salary exceeds 170k per year. I feel it is so unfair for the students to be deprived of this moment and be part of their lifetime memories. This is not the place for this protest, it is a place for learning.

Can you all just step back and stop labeling sides for one second, and look at it from the actual "students" attending class there. They want an education, not to be overtaken by a political protest. They are students who are fighting back against the agitators who have been proven that a large part of them are non students, so why should these outsiders mess up the majority of students who just want to attend classes and graduate denied? That is not fair and is outrageous.
