    Just an additional info for others, when corticosteroids is being taken as a short term tx, you actually dont need to tell patients to “slowly discontinue taking the medicine” as this is only applicable for long term tx (e.g. addison’s dse and etc) and also, it is important to tel them to take it preferably in the morning.

    I start my pharmacy course this year. I’m going to use your page a lot. I understand NSAIDS, but I don’t know a lot about steroids. Did you know that many people think ibuprofen and paracetamol (acetaminophen) are the same? Literally! I’ve had to explain to my family, that you can take ibuprofen and acetaminophen at the same time. But many people will buy many products with acetaminophen! So many times, pharmacists have told elderly patients that this drug and those other drugs all have acetaminophen in them! RIP Liver.

    Hi doc, first of all I want to thank you for all your efforts of helping us all. My question is this... About 4 months ago, I was diagnosed with Bell's Palsy. The doctor prescribed a facial physiotherapy and daily dose of Prednisone ( Ephasol ). I took it for 2 weeks and 2 days (40 mg for a week, 20 mg for 5 days and 10mg for the last 4 days). I can now say the Bell's Palsy has been treated and my facial paralysis has gone. But I started seeing different symptoms on my body. 1. Exactly after a week of taking the medication I started hearing my heartbeat through my ears. 2. After about a month of stopping the med my right hand finger knuckles got dark and my body started shaking (slight shaking of sometimes the legs, sometimes the arms and a throbbing feeling in the back of my head). 3. Ringing ears (most noticeably in 1 ear) started 2 weeks ago. 4. A tight feeling in my forehead. Doc, are these the side effects of the medication? What is the solution?

    • @Lian-ez8gx
      @Lian-ez8gx 5 месяцев назад

    اغلب اللي حكاه :
    Prednisone: steroid : anti-inflammatory stress & swelling hormones
    Prednisone , hydrocortisone
    Dexamethasone , fludocortisone
    Prescribed for : COPD, Reumatoid arthritis, psoriasis (inflamed skin), lupus( inflamed body where the body attack itself). Allergic reaction (for swelling).
    Swollen : steroid swell the body --> wight gain
    So we see big moon face + high BP( زيادة الضغط عادية) *we monitor weight daily.
    Sepses: infection from low WBC ---> slow wound healing----> fever & infection.
    Any low grade fever لازم ينحكى عنها
    Suger increased: hyperglycemia---> increase the insulin.
    Skinny muscles & bones: osteoporosis ---> risk for fracture.
    Sight---> risk for cataract
    Supress the immune system---> slow wound healing
    عشان ما يصيرش عند المريض Addisonian crisis :
    - لازم توقف الدوا شوية شوية never abrupt stop.
    - في حالات الstress والعمليات بنزود الجرعة

    I have stage 4 NSCC of he right lung.. Under the care of an oncologist.
    I find that my appetite has become suppressed. Just looking at food, makes. me nauseous..
    I do remember that taking Prednisone several months ago, did make me feel better, but don't recall
    if in increased my appetite.
    Other than water weight, could Prednisone give me the desire to feel hungry again?
    I know by taking it, I felt better all around,
    I started out with 5 per day, then reduced by 1 each week.
    I know that I can't be on it permanently, but if it helps for at least a month, that would be great.

Did notice acne increase in the face and since i decreased to 60mg a few weeks ago acne spread to shoulders and back. Also starting to notice vision problems that change during the day so now have long distance glasses. Most severe side effect for me is extreme restlessness. This is physical and mental and i started taking adhd medication again after stopping because i was literally pacing around my living room feeling so amped up and not knowing what to so.

      I had bronchitis and covid ( supposed to help with inflammation), my doctor just prescribed me prednisone. Honestly I am scared to take it, I been seeing so many bad reviews about it. Including the side effects.

      First. What did your doctor prescribe it for? Depending on the reason… you might want to look into different alternatives from this medication. It’s comes with a lot of unpleasant side effects like gaining weight and depositing extra fat In your stomach and face. Prednisone can also make you feel irritable and on the edge. This medication will most definitely make you want to eat a whole buffet at any hour of the day as well… so if I were you I’d ask the doctor for a different alternative.

      Depending on the does your on 5, 10, 25, 50, 60, or 80. You’ll want to walk every single day, drink LOTS of water and green tea with no sugar. Most importantly create a diet full of Fruits, vegetables, low sodium, less carbs. Try eating meat once a week if you do eat meat
