I have the same board in a 9’6”. CJ is a good friend of mine and one hell of an unknowing mentor. He lets me try all of his boards and I gotta say, I love this board. So far, the apex and the 8’3” parallax are my favorite. And I’m 100% sold in the thunderbolt technology. I was a little iffy at first. But from going back and forth with the thunderbolt to poly, the ride and responsiveness I get from the thunderbolt is just better. But that’s just my opinion and what’s working for me. Stoked to see the positive feedback from you about it. And one more thing that may aid in your reviews when riding CJ’s boards is that he had a fin that he designs for every board. I’ve tried fins from other companies and it never turns out as good as it does when I put the fin that he suggests. Sure they work. But never as good as the flying diamonds fins that he specifically makes for the specific board. In my opinion, if you had a parallax fin or the involvement fin in the outlier, you probably would have had a better time on it. Keep up the reviews! I’m enjoying them. ✌🏻

Hey Mike. Thanks for the kind words about the reviews. Stoked to hear that. So actually going forward I have a 7’0 outlier and a 8’3 parallax on the way. With those boards I am actually grabbing specific flying diamond fins for it. Might actually grab a couple and do a little show just in that. The apex actual review is coming out on 3/1 and this board really worked for me. I think it’s because it’s on the smaller side but still pretty big. Please be on the look out for that one. I think you will really dig it. It’s my personal favorite board at the moment.

One last thing if you don’t mind. With the 8’3 I wanted to try the involvement and parallax fin. 9.5 the magic number?

Mike, nice feedback you provide here and I agree that CJ’s boards when combined with his Flying Diamond’s fins are next level. I have an 8’O Outlier that I run the 9.5” Parallax fin and the 8.0” performance fin and it’s super fun. And I also have a 9’6” Guerrero. How would you compare the Guerrero (if you’ve ridden that one) to the Apex? I’m split between a 9’6 Apex or the 9’11 and looking for any feedback you or anyone might have in comparing the two. I pretty much surf SanO exclusively 3-4x’s a week. Also, I’m looking for the 8’3 parallax but they seem to be sold out everywhere I look! That board looks so good for just getting out even if conditions or waves are less than ideal. 🤙🏼

@@bskis13 Hey Brian, Thanks for the feedback. I am actually going to be getting a bunch of fins from Flying Diamonds and doing a series called " Fin Chats" soon. Which will speak more about different styles of fins in different conditions.
I think your really going to like that series. As far as the Apex I am riding it in 9'1. I just wanted something on the shorter side but still something I could use on the nose. I did have a Guerrero from when they first started manufacturing them. Actually got one of the first production ones. Anyway sold that to a friend a while back but am doing a Same Same But Different episode on those two boards. Its been a while since I rode the Guerrero but from what I noticed immediately is that the apex has less rocker and is a little chunkier in the rails. So trim speed is up there. I am going to be releasing the review on the Apex 3/01. I think you'r going to really like it. It was a real treat.

Great Video , I have this exact board but been struggling to find the best fin to go with this as it is a square/squash tail. Would something like the Cali Pivot Fin be ideal or more the Powerflex anyone messed about with Fins for this board and got some insight ? Thanks 👍🏻Forgot to say amazing board makes you work for those nose rides no cheating but turns so well as well.

I think the power flex is more ideal. But I am going to try it with a Cali pivot for a new series called fin chats. Keep your eyes peeled for it.

@@surfcraftunion Were you able to try the Cali Pivot fin? I just got the power flex and I’m taking it out tomorrow.

@@frankchen7346 not yet. But it’s on the list. I am getting footage of a 10 inch sub by Ben Skinner to try something different. So far it has been really fun.
