These diligent and highly detailed videos are gold. The GG looks awesome. Can’t wait to see the test ride. Thank you.
As a Trail Pistol owner who's hardtail- curious, I can't tell you how long I've waited for this!
I dreamed I was trying out a new kind of pedal and cleat last night, no joke. I must be a bike geek.
I really like how that bike looks, let's wait to see how the bike performs
Glad to see some more info on this bike, there’s really not much around. I was digging around for a few months, everything I could find was very positive, but I’d have liked to see more opinions.
I bought one a few months ago, and I am really enjoying it. it’ll be interesting to see what a much better rider than I can make it do!
Looks like a good chunky Midwest hardtail. The type of hardtail for Duluth/Redhead/Cuyuna/Copper Harbor where you need slightly relaxed geo, but don't need a pogo stick of a fork.
Though, I do wish GG would make a Trail Pistol in metal vs. carbon....
Every hardtail should have sliding dropouts. Single speeders need more representation in bikes.
That geo is way more appealing than what the chart suggested! Gonna be waiting for the trail review since this bike has always been on my radar.
I’ll be very interested in your take on this bike! I used to have a Pedalhead size 4 (I’m 6’3”).Always felt a little big for me (wasn’t used to modern geo yet) and I struggled a bit on technical climbs. Sold it to a buddy who broke the frame and replaced it with a size 3. That one felt too small for me, but it’s a killer bike overall. Hopefully, Manzanita will sort out my Goldilocks fit :)
you're in excellent hands with Nick
I bought a Funn 102t Fandom hub, great engagement, but annoyingly noisy. It sounds like I'm being chased by giant robotic hornets when I coast.
Still don't get why they aren't offering this newer version as a frame only option either........
Did it come with rage against the machine tickets?
Excited to see this bike. I had forgotten about it from a few years ago.
Thanks Steve for always showing quality bikes from smaller builders and hopefully it helps their business.
Guerrilla gravity runs a wheel offset on their full suspension bikes similar to canondale ai. Is it the same for their hardtails?
I don't believe so. These are regular offset wheels.
I've been looking forward to this one!
Inserts crank: 'You gonna do me dry like that!?'
Bike looks sick... Geo based off 140 fork??
Size 4, definitely looks too big 🧐
Should ride great 👌
My cranks only sit on my frame for 2 weeks while I review it, then they get removed and on to the next bike.
I agree that additional dropouts that addd the slide tension for SS is a huge bonus, especially if they also have options to keep using my old SS specific hubs with a 142x12 axles. True you can just use regular geared Boost hubs and a bunch of spacers, but something about a wider flanged hub that is probably stronger and just looks great. 29x2.6” is what I use on my hardtail’s. That size with CushCore is a great way to take your hardtail on some aggressive descents with confidence.
YES BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ONE!!!
What's the weight on it, built up like you did?
Amazing video Steve! Can't wait to see it on trails!
I would love to see this thing in some different colors, but I know that's not really GG's thing...
If you use the recommended grease instead of the oil, on the freehub pawls, the hydra get a lot quieter
The grease does make it quieter for a week or two, then it slowly gets loud again.
GG needs more love. for such great bikes, i rarely see them. last trip to Summit, over two days i only saw 1 GG. im also riding in NV this w/e on the Ryve that i bought (because of you!)
good detailed vid, as usual. that envoy w/ the hydra was perfect.
Looking forward to hearing what you think of the Evil Loopholes (FusionFiber). I really like the Revel RW30 wheels on my hardtail. 🤘🏻
Silent the Hydras with Dumonde Tech Pro-X Freehub Grease. It lasts 400-800 miles, ymmv.
I do this too and it's amazing. The hub runs almost silent with fresh grease.
@@bradsteinbart5318 It runs silent for a week or two, then it gets loud again.
@@hardtailparty Totally agree. The sound slowly creeps back in and is fine for awhile before it gets annoying again. I add fresh grease whenever I have the energy.
Love the look of the bike, I have an orbea laufey h10 in matt black n purple. Oval 30t chain ring n all. I Need a better set of wheels!
I just recently got my new full suspension 29er with 142/160mm travel, and I notice that you have to push a lot until it comes alive. I did ask for it, so that's why I still come back here because I do want something completely different as well. With the pricing on bikes in this day and age, I do need some time to be able to afford another set of wheels given my recent purchase was a lot more expensive than I ever thought I'd pay for a bike. I would do it again though because I got the one I wanted, but I still mean the prices these days are a bit bonkers to say the least.
Looks like a nice frame, really interested in your thoughts on sizing, it's too bad they don't offer a wider range
Another unique looking frame, can’t wait for the review!!! So awesome 😎 seeing these different hard tails 👍👍!!!
Sweet frame, you make me want to build a bike! and I just bought 2 bikes lol
The tube shape make this bike look aluminium
I think that's the idea behind it; I much prefer hydroformed rounded steel tubes.
@@petesmitt part of the charm of steel for me is the classic round tubes
Bummer that GG doesn't appear to offer this in a frame-only option.
Ano Purple really stands out against a dark frame! Love it.
love that bike.
I’ve gone to the shop a couple of times because I live close, the whole brand is so awesome
I've been asking about this bike forever. Awesome that you got one in!
EXCELLENT PRODUCT!!
For hubs I’d really like to hear your take on the new shimano XT and XTR rear hubs. They are said to be very quiet, though it looks like they’ve had some reliability issues (and updates) over the last couple years. They’re relatively cheap, light, high enough engagement for me. Downside is questionable reliability and 12 spd microspline only, which I’m ok with.
I'm not the biggest fan of those hubs. See my Marin El Roy first look video. I have other friends who love them with zero issues.
That’s a beautiful frame! S.I.R 🤘
I thought they didn’t even sell frame only pedal heads. I was going to get this for my frame swap but settled on a nimble 9 instead.
Yeah, I don't understand why they don't sell frame only, that would make a ton of sense.
5dev crank arm always make me crazy
I've been waiting for this one!
Can’t wait to see the review !!
Nice first look review Steve, be interesting to see how it rides.
Is there anything in the pipeline to review 'Bird Forge' steel 29 hardtail? Another UK steel frame and bike maker. Think the geo numbers would be of great interest to you. Really appreciate your content and quality of your unbiased reviews.👌👍
No, but I do have a Byrd alloy frame in for review.
Ahh that's a shame but will look forward to seeing the alloy review.
PS treated myself to the Zipp Moto wheelset to complete the build after watching your positive review on them. You are my hardtail go to Guru, excellent information assured. Stay safe 👍🚴
@@shaneycarter8803 congrats, those are killer wheels.
Have you tried Dumonde freehub grease to quiet the I9 hubs? Worked well on my last set of 305s, although those were Torch hubs and not Hydra.
Yes, but that only lasts for a week or two, then it's back to being loud
@@hardtailparty Did you use the grease or the oil...?
@@Windband1 grease
Thank you for great video. Wiil you be testing Canyon stoic on the future?🙂
Unfortunately canyon hasn't been able to get one in stock to send me one.
@@hardtailparty It is a pity. Thanks! :)
That looks really light tbh 😍
That hub is the worst noise I have ever heard come from a bicycle. Let’s go into the bush to get away from it all and bring 50 decibels of noise with me along for the ride.
Frame looks really cool. I love all the different types of tubing used. Can’t wait for the ride review.
Agreed, I hate loud hubs. But the engagement is fantastic.
Stoked to see how it turns out
Love the first looks!
6.6 wow. Let's go GG!
With that helm 🔥 📛
Looks aggressive!
Roomy cockpit....ha
plenty of room.. unless you have ape arms.
Do the swappable dropouts also act as a break in the frame so you can run a belt drive?
no
