  • When something goes wrong, the only option is to try to fix it. My custom bed headboard (that would have cost me thousands to buy) has an issue... and I'm trying to fix it! This week I also celebrate New Years with my family, do some shopping with my mom, get a new mattress, and sew something that is much needed.

Hi it's me. Years ago I worked at a family owned furniture store with my husband. We both attending parking lot sales. I took over the sale from the salesman. Added tax, delivery charge etc. Wrapped it up. I always asked customers buying couches or mattresses if they would like their furniture scotch guarded. About $100. I got the commission. Now my mom bought a couch and my husband double dosed it. She loved it. The couch never stained or dirtied. She vacuumed it but that all. As a teen we scotch guarded each other's thighs and butt area on our Levi's for skiing. No skiing attire then. We stayed dry enough to sky all day. I recommend it. Or maybe throw a beach towel over that area. Hang it in closet. Wash when it's dirty. Really enjoying your videos Dalia. Much ♥️ From Cali.

Creating a removable cover is a good idea, but I'd also use a fabric protector solution on it and your headboard to make it stain resistant and easier to clean. You just spray it on (or you can have it done professionally but probably not worth the cost in this use case). There are also eco friendly brands of protectors/stain block treatments for fabric that also spray on. It's probably something worth considering especially for a light color that is in constant contact with body oils. 🙂

You should get rustoleum’s never wet fabric spray! It does have a very strong smell so needs to be done outside and Daley outside for 1-2 days. It will waterproof the fabric so your oils and stuff should not get into it! I use it on my boots every winter and it really works!

There are other brands of fabric protector that have diff degrees of protection. I used upholstery fabric on my headboard and the same thing happened. I googled how to clean it and apparently it’s a common issue with all headboards. I think scotch guard could help. It does prevent moisture from penetrating the surface but it’s probably not going to totally stop it from happening because any fabric is going to absorb some sort of moisture just like your sheets do. The curse of a light colored fabric I guess.

  • @amberfrazier575

I wonder if it was the other material that looked like it? You could pull the fabric off and make it into a fitted cover like a cushion on the top and a fitted sheet on the back a square in front with 10” of fabric sewn to the back and line the back edges with elastic so it can go into the washing machine.

  • @elysiacelestewells4155

I too have to go 100% fragrance free. It is a pain! Good luck!
And yes, scotch guard should help a lot!
Also consider using a half a cup of vinegar while washing clothes. It makes thing softer, makes things more sanitary, and helps prevent build up in the machine.

Check on your scotch guard and make sure it was not discontinued, one of them causes hormone imbalance, cancer ect and has been discontinued. I was going to suggest hemming a box case with only a 4” strip in back . Sew the soft end of Velcro to your headboard cover and staple the rough end of your Velcro to the back of the head board all the way around . Then you can wash and dry, whenever you like. Especially if you use a cleat system to hang your headboard. Also your stain is most likely an oil stain, dawn dish soap and an overnight hot soak is probably best.

I’m not quite sure why instructions are so hard, I think the way the info is presenting (boring, tiny, lots of words).
