Firstly, I like your channel a lot -keep it up 🙂👍
Just a couple of weeks ago, I created an NPC goblin ranger (5th level- the characters are still low-level) who specializes in hunting down and ambushing his prey (gnomes and elves are favoured).
Focus on sharpshooting and dealing a lot of damage in one go.
I’m so glad to see you mention the goblin and ranger as suitable choises as well. Means I’m on to something 🙂

If you don’t care about Adventurer’s League at all:
Favoured Foe for a Hunter’s Mark a number of times equal to your Wisdom. Doesn’t require concentration so you could pop Magic Weapon or Haste on top of this.
Roving - +5ft of movement added and a climbing/swimming speed equal to your base movement.
Canny - Another skill from the Ranger list.
Tireless - Temporary HP with d10 + Wisdom a number of times equal to Wisdom.

Based on experience playing a character with both: Sharpshooter is better than Elven Accuracy and should be taken first. My character is a wood elf fighter/rogue but I think you've convinced me to add some ranger levels.

  • @momqabt

Here's my take on the deadshot:
    Drow 120 DV
Hexblade, blade lock, improved pact weapon longbow, Eldritch smite, darkness devils sight - for escapes anyways, in regular darkness you're basically invis.
Rogue assassin for them crits, and you'll be shooting from far away, entering and exiting combat to reapply your shenanigans.
Gloom stalker +30dv here's where the invis comes in for DV
Hexblade gives unlimited ammo with the bow, Eldritch smite for extra damage, sneak attack for extra damage, auto crit with assassin for extra damage, take sharpshooter feat for range negation bonuses; someone comes close? Darkness devil sight bye biatch.

      Thanks!
Gudgud build. Ill try to do something similar when BG3 releases. Larian said that the campaing will pass a lil bit from lvl 10. I guess they will hit lvl cap 12 and problably more in the future (DLCs, expansion)
Well, lets assume as cap lvl 12. How would u progress the build u shared with us trying to take the most benefit from those 3 multiclassing. Would u consider half-elf assuming Hexblade and its gravity towards CHA?
And..how would u spare your abilities points?
What DV means? Sorry, Im kinda new on D&D5e
Thx OP or anyone else who may in the future answer this.

    • @momqabt

@@rlm9243 the above build is for when you get to lv20 territories.
If you want something to work near 10-12 you need to rethink things. If you want a powerful build for lv10-12 4assassin(1asi) 5stalker(1asi1EA) 2fighter(surge)
While having +2+2 on Dex for a reliable +2 to hit, since you'll be mostly invisible to 99% of enemies you gain advantage and +2 from archery FS anyways, get sharpshooter to negate long distance penalties and gain a +10/-5, with advantage that -5 isn't going to matter much, also get elven accuracy to roll 3d20 to hit if you have advantage, almost guaranteeing a hit, you do auto crits for extra dice, so let's say you were able to hunters mark the mofo. Against ac15 +3hit(stat)+2hit(FS)+4hit(prof) you effectively hit 99% of the time.
You also crit. You also get an extra attack on the first round. You also get extra attack feature.
So rogue lv2+2d6 once, hunters mark +d6/hit lb does d8 so that's 4d6+2d8+2d6+10 first shot, 4d8+4d6+20 second and third shot, action surge 3 shots (dread ambusher is on the first round of combat) 6d8+6d6+30.
First round you deal with 6 arrows 88-252 ~160 @lv11.

I like my Inquisitive Rogue. He stays in the back, uses his bonus action on his turn in the first round to activate his Insightful Fighting ability to get his sneak attack bonus (he has a high wisdom and Insight as an expertise, so he almost always activates it first round), and can do a lot of damage without getting in melee, but he can get into melee if he has to. He does a lot of damage.
I thought about having him take a 3 level dip in Fighter. Not sure if he should go Battle Master or Champion though.

Thanks to Xanathar's Guide to Everything, the bower/fletcher does becomes available if you take the Woordcarver's Tools like you did in this build. According to CGtE, with Woodcarver's Tools you can repair a singel wooden object during a short rest (could be an arrow or even better, your bow), but you can also craft up to 5 arrows during a short rest, and 20 during a long rest as long as there is enough wood available for those tasks... and the best part of all those is: NO ROLL OR CHECK NEEDED!
This is stellar! You can start pumping down arrows in your ennemies and during your long rest refill your quiver and be ready do rain down death again the next day! :)

Go 20th level fighter with the sharp shooter subclass, and get the sharp shooter, magic initiate, crossbow expert, and the elven accuracy feats for the magic initiate feat choose warlock and pick the hex spell as your once per day spell. With that combination you can do an average damage of 288 assuming all of your attacks hit which with triple advantage and a plus 8 to hit you can easily hit even a tarrasque with its 25 AC.

    • @YourBoyNobody530
      @YourBoyNobody530 3 года назад +1

Incase you were wondering with hex active and a heavy crossbow your doing 1d10 + 1d6 + 27 damage per shot which is an average of 36 damage per hit. If someone gives you the haste spell your dealing an average of 324 damage using action surge. Add in the flaming arrow spell on top of haste, and a plus three weapon then your dealing an average damage of 382.5 damage which most monsters don't even have that much HP with exceptions such as the tarrasque. The best part is you can do this burst twice provided you have hex activated.

This is a good build guide. Generally when I build a character I avoid multiclassing before level 5, unless the party needs me to fill a role that multiclassing would cover.
Levels 4 and 5 have the biggest power spikes, and depending on class level 3 can also be a big power spike.

  • @AzraelThanatos
    @AzraelThanatos 3 года назад

Entertainer (Gladiator) is also a great option if you aren't going for the Elf. You can swap your proficiency for longbow there for Rogue builds. While losing a lot of the pouring in arrows thing, going for a sniper type build can be very nasty there with the move/hide/shoot each round thing with cunning action. Going with Scout gives you some great things for the disappear into nowhere side of things as a straight Rogue...grab the Sharpshooter and Magic Initiate (Wizard) [Mending, Light, and Find Familiar (Owl)] as feats. If you can, grab Alert and the new feat to add a Fighting Style (Archery).
Mending is pretty much the always recover your arrows thing if you have time along with some general utility, Light means that you can either bypass issues with darkvision or just start illuminating targets with a lit up arrow, and Find Familiar with an Owl is pretty much a free way to get the help action and advantage on your attacks along with other general utility. Alert merges well with Scout in letting you pull the hit and run thing, Sharpshooter and the fighting style are basically improvements in shooting things. As a variant human, you can still max out your dex to make things even more fun there.
Sneak Attack is the key and you want very good perception and stealth options to make things to cause havoc as a more military style sniper build to murderize targets.

    • @momqabt
      @momqabt 3 года назад +1

Problem is casters heavily outshine most classes for burst, max, and DPR.
Even with my hexblade build you'll never do as much damage as a pure caster lock or even a thematic caster build unless you deliberately handicap the caster to not take most damage spells and go full troll with it. Even then the best is the Wiz. You want a tank? Moon druid totem barb, mostly caster. MR for the party with additional utility tanking and a good burst? Ancients, half caster. Utility burst tank DPS? Conquest hexadin. Ranged MDPR? Aasimar sorc w/ hexblade dip and max out EB. Ranged burst DPS? Assassin gloomstalker or assassin whispers bard.
Even if you take Cody's build for the dark caster and add 3 levels of hexblade chain lock and deliver your touch spells with an invis familiar you'll do more damage. Also, just give the invis fam a wand of fireball and go nutz. FB to much resisted? I'm sure you can craft a recharging wand of hypnotic pattern, synaptic static or somesuch, or like, cloud of daggers and it's the fam that concentrates on it while hiding, giving you an effective 2 conc spells.

I only took 3 into Gloomstalker and 17 into arcane archer so with the bow he gave me, poison I used on arrows that I got from our rogue after they died and my arrows from arcane archer i hit like a truck.
2D10+4+ 2D4 lighting damage for bow, 2D8+2d4 for the poison arrows+ 1D6 for hunters mark+ 2D6 slashing and 2D6 poison damage for "grasping arrow" all with a total +17 to hit

The approach I'm going for isn't the "deadshot" type. My plan (at present) is 3 levels of Ranger for Gloom Stalker (Druidcraft fighting style although might change that two Two weapon fighting later), 2 levels of fighter (to get extra Fighting style, Second WInd, Action Surge), 3 levels of Rogue (Sneak Attack, Expertise, Cunning Action, and Scout Archetype). Then finish out Ranger levels, taking the Alert Feat. Haven't decided on Elven Accuracy (to bump Wisdom) or Sharpshooter. Probably both if I get that far. Since I'll be alternating between classes/levels it will take a while. I'm going for a character who is a bit more of a "special forces" type. THere are downsides to this approach but should be interesting to see where it goes.

Earlier this year i made something simulare, it was a rouge lvl 2, ranger'(gloomstalker) lvl 4, to try to assasinate one of my players. She was a fan of the people but the noble disliked her and fear that she would gain power. Then she wrote an insulting letter and the nobles figured out perhaps we should hire someone to kill her before she kills the dragon and gain even more honor and glory in the eyes of the people. ( a little homebrew to dragon of the icespire peak based on my players backgroundstory )

No weapons at the table? I guess nobody you know owns one of those new Dice Daggers. Just spotted one the other day surfing the web. I think I was checking out higher quality dice but got a little sidetracked. Anyway, they're oversized daggers made of 3d printed plastic. Slide the knife out of the sheath and you reveal a slot that'll hold one of every size of die. Unscrew the pommel to reveal an extra 3d6 for those stealthy sneak attacks. I totally want one, but I can't afford it. May have to carve one for myself out of wood.

I'm trying to build a character that never misses without using a limited use ability.
The best so far is at least 4 Rogue / 1 Fighter (For archery)
also theoretically the Ranger 3 hunter for the extra d8 and d6 hunter's mark instead of the 1 fighter. But I wonder if it will be better to just go Rogue all the way with the 1 fighter.

Not sure if bad dm or not but it felt like he was saying "only i am allowed to have powerful characters, the rest of you need to struggle through it"

without knowing your DM and the rest of the parties build, it might be a problem of balance, if you are so far ahead of every other PC, it tends to be either every fight is tuned to be balanced against you, in which case the rest of the party gets slaughtered, or tuned to the rest, in which case you will just stomp them. Ive retired PCs that were just way out of line with the rest of my parties system mastery and skill level

    • @Persona4subbed

@@fluffbot3000 i wont deny that my character tended to outdamage the other characters, but considering before i even got to the high damage part of the build he had effectively doubled the amount of spell slots of the wizard and had given the paladin the ability to smite from 20ft away i don't see why i should have been punished for making a character strong purely with class features. I just felt like i was being punished for doing research and planning a character build instead of begging/hoping for a powerful homebrew item to keep up with the others. Its fine now, there is even a way to bring them back into the campaign but only when everyone is around level 16 or so so quite a ways away (we are currently lvl 9)

I kinda disagree with this build. I’d say make the first two levels in Rogue, then take 5 levels of battle master fighter, then levels of Ranger. For one thing cunning action disengage will help save your butt if you get any nasty hitting melee foes up in your face. Second with the new steady aim feature you’ll get advantage on ranged attacks, and that especially stacks up nicely with the archery fighting style

I think it's only fair to do a few sillier builds to offset the serious builds and creepy builds that always seem to creep up during this time of the year. A good place to look to for inspiration in that regard would be the Disney animated series from the early 2000s known as Dave the Barbarian. Dave the Barbarian is the most D&D show I know, which is kind of funny because it was created as a parody of the Fantasy genre, especially games like D&D, and was very much aware of what it could get away with, the first episode involve a giant killer muffin.
I went back and watched a few episode of the series, which you can find on RUclips (including episode 1), a while back, and every now and then I kind of wonder what a party based on Dave the Barbarian would look like. To be fair, it's less about the builds themselves and more about the extra flavor the players bring to the characters, Dave, the title character, is a coward who only really shows how amazing he is in combat when his family is in danger but he's also a massive dork that likes to cook and clean and is allergic to half a dozen things. Why did put in the family bit? Well, if you haven't seen the show then you should know that Dave, his two sisters, their magically inept uncle, and their pet dragon (he seems to look and act really dumb most of the time), along with Dave's talking magic sword comprise the heroes/protagonists of the series.
