Two things.
First: Elidibus reaching for Emet as he walks away is heartbreaking.
Second: Confirmed Emet slouches even as Ancient and I love it.
I wish Emet was around to sass us over our... difficulty... with accurate summoning in Eden.

This song already hit like a truck but now knowing the context that Soken wrote it while bedridden and fighting cancer makes it hit even harder.
This was already in my top 3 favorite XIV songs; I think its now just my favorite *song.* From anything. I'm so grateful.
This was always "Mood: the primal." Now that's only doubly so and it hits twice as hard.
To each their own, and not denying Soken's hard work, but that theme is really terrible compared to the bangers we've had this expansion, and just nerding over it because it was made whilst Soken was ill is a behaviour lost on me.

@Zack Efret I was the same at first, I mean speaking your mind in music isn't exactly news. I remember hearing this and think "aw just classic fantasy stuff" then the sections in 1:50 and 5:05 made me consider going back and giving it another listen: like he canned the fantasy speak for a minute and let it all out, "am I ever going to see home again? Will everything I've done just disappear like a bottle out to sea never be found again? Is anyone even listening to my prayers? Is my faith and devotion worth nothing?" I wont trash you for not feeling the same but I tip my hat to guy for letting us know that he wasnt all "I'll be fine, I got this!" And that he was doubtful, his hope did flicker and fade at times, and maybe even feared this could be the end of him.
Emet's dead and he's still the sassiest dude in the room, in someone elses boss fight.

eeeh the only reason Elidibus is considered a primal is because he's Zodiarks heart. and if we're talking about the og WoL (elidibus) then yeah, i suppose they were right but when most people say "WoL" i think they mean the player character...who had the seat of Azem, the 14th member of the convocation
@@DarkOmegaZero He's part of Zodiark. Zodiark answered to the wish "Save the world" and Warriors of Light answers to the same wish.
The theory was, because so many praises and pray for the Warrior of Light to come, doesn't matter "who" is the Warrior of Light, they pray towards the entity that represent the title.
It was also the same case with Shinryu, Ilberd only wanted to summon a powerfull dragon answering to his wishes of vengeance, when it was in fact Midgardsormr.
On top of that, the "Summons" looks like what the Summoner had in mind... With some exceptions as we've seen with Eden raid. In Elidibus mind, it was clear that the image of the Warrior of Light was Zest, the original Warrior of light.
The prayers and wishes were addressed to the Warriors of Light, but it only empowers Primals. That was Elidibus plan after all.
The entity of "Warrior of light" is indeed a Primal like Shinryu, Ifrit, Titan, the image only comes from the Summoner.

Yes Elidibus is a primal because he's Zodiarks heart (like i said) and yes his motif is to use, puppet and manipulate heroes which seems to stem from the fact that he stole the original warrior of lights body.
Yes you can consider warrior of light a primal but this primal is unique that i don't believe it receives any power from prayer since it's the heart of a God but you also have to remember the warrior of light is a hero and a hero fights for the world. The two words are used interchangeably and now mean the same thing. Elidibus is no hero, he's an emissary who strives for balance. Duty above all with no care for the little person unlike a true hero who does his/ her best to save the world and its people.

@@zwei3179 Elidibus is an Ascian first and foremost especially to his duty and being a Primal...i believe he needs an influx of aether...whether that's true or not is besides the point..but it does seem like he needs a physical body every so often given during one of the earlier cutscenes it looked like he was fading away from a first person perspective until he "found" the first WoL and most likely stole his body and proceeded to do ascian things with it.
Remember that even though he's the Emissary and doesn't view things exactly the same way as Lahabrea or Emet, he's not against stealing bodies (i mean he stole Ardberts)
This song hits different after Soken's announcement during Fan Fest.

Even the fight is different, especially beginning with the spirit of Emet Selch making his walk, the limit breaks, etc. That is so powerful.
ngl from the first day this song always brings me to tears because of that melancholy sort of vibe it has, but god... after that announcement i feel like that melancholy has even more weight now...

@Deso Lark during fan fest this year Soken (FF14 Composer) revealed he was battling cancer for the majority of 2020. He actually composed this song and others from a hospital bed while receiving chemotherapy. No one but Yoshi P and top level executives knew, not even any of the devs since they were all working from home.

My heart's dam was set free for sure. I went from Curse you Elidibus to Elidibus!!! (T_T) at the end. Especially when his Amaurot model is just so small so weak compared to the one we see in the city, like damn it felt like looking at one desperate man at the end of his life. This patch should be renamed Feelsbringer from the amount of FEELS it gave.
Thank you Emet; for remembering US.

Emet had to choose us (the parted soul of his old buddy Reincarnated) or Elidibus, with his mind corrupted like those corrupted by the primals, to blindly follow the desire from thousands of Amaroutians when summoning Zodiark.

@@ksiarmy100able Zenos doesn't fuse with Zodiark. Instead he tempers the Terminus that Zodiark was called to defeat. And Zodiark and Hydalean team up with the protagonist to take him down. Dont get mad at me I'm just being a cringy fanboy.

I can see us ending up fighting the fusion of Zodiark and Hydaelyn instead
I know we're all talking about Emett here but I was pretty into Elidibus's plight. He had me thinking he was the smartest one of the bunch but he really had no clue. He was like a kid filling boots too big for him the whole time.
@@mysteriouslunar9779 Azem is not under Hydalein service. It is just that the "HERO" is something that's outside the realm of any primal or whatever. Hydalein light and zodiark darkness are just concepts of good and evil but both of them are in a way "evil things" because they temper the people agains their will.

1 - FF1 is one of my favorite FF games (Love the PSP Anniversary Edition)
2 - I mained Warrior of Light in every Dissidia game

The bass coming in during the Emet wave has to be the most badass thing I’ve ever seen/heard.
I'm actually afraid for myself before 6.0. If 5.x OST and story made me/us an emotional wreck headbanging to every track what will grand finale do with us all?

I believe the Warrior of Light in Dissidia simply has an attack named Cross-Over, and the name is a reference to that and not the crossover nature of the FF1 WoL and FF4 main cast.

I like to think that the Chaos we fought during the Omega raids was originally defeated by Elidibus

Emet-Selch's little hand motion sent shivers down my spine and made me cry a little. Loved him as an antagonist.

Just finished this trial and it gave me chills. The music (Soken is a musical genius), the story and seeing Emet again. What an incredible experience Shadowbringers has turned out to be. Was not prepared for it at all
ENDWALKER SPOILERS BELOW:
Now we know why Emet helped us.
He didn't remember any of that until he died, he helped us cuz he couldn't bear to let Elidibus continue on alone and thus made that azem crystal as his backup plan if he failed to drestroy us during The Dying Gasp. At least this is what I've taken away from the story.

Well it's official, FFXIV is one of the best experiences ever
I played 1-15, it just became my top 3 FF after 6 and 9, it kicked 12 from third spot lol
@@silverman824 the thing with xiv is how mix everything so well, my fav is VII (i still remember when i get my gold chocobo as a child) when i fought the king thorad trial, i played with tears of joy and nostalgia, i was stunned, how a game can make me feel like that when im 31 years lol. I realized that back in Heavensward, during that moment where you slowly walked towards Nidhogg pinning down Hraesvelgr, hOT damn this game makes me feel emotions

Which means only one thing the original final fantasy happened it is canon, if events of tactics are via the ivalice expansion then seems ff1 is too so what does that mean for the other games? Could it be possible they happened too....hmmmm

Fun fact: if you use a DPS limit break at the wrong time, the boss completely ignores it.

Well shit, I didn't think about that. Omega's a dimension-hopping creature and technically fought the FF1 WoL (albeit retroactively, since it wasn't in the NES version), so at the very least it probably sees all warriors of light as the same as FF1 WoL, who is the most pure distillation of that title.
Omega is an ancient reality making being that can hop worlds.... It's entirely possible he clashed with FFXIV's real deal WoL and based his M design off of that
It ain't that deep, it's just Yoshitaka Amano's artstyle. This really sells it home that this is THE OG Warrior of Light
This will sound and hit so differently now, after learning what happened to him. He was literally on the edge as he wrote and composed this. 😭 A true Scion.

Also what I noticed is that around 10%, if the boss isn't already casting something, they use their own version of Hallowed Ground
@@mrzepher2539 I had 2 ugly wipes. :< First was, when the tank messed up ergo used LB3 too early, and second was on 4% of Elidibus' endphase because mentioned tank left meteor right the moment the thing came down. x.x"

Truly, one worthy of being remembered.
That active time maneuver though... it started going down so fast it spooked the hell outta me LOL
Sadly, I got into one where it's bugged where even if everyone succeeds, it still acts like everyone failed and treats it like a total wipe. Had to exit and try again.

funfact, when you go back to emets build amarot on the ocianfloor in tempest you can hear how the theme evolved other the patches. I love ff14 for this music design. The Theme develops as events happen in the world. Always by your side, yet changing as do you.

In the end Emet still watched over use even after his death.
But how? How was he able to show up and cast magic? Since he's dead.
Sayuri there are many theories that can attest to his brief return. The first is that, we the 14th Azem, can use our summoning powers to bring our friends to help us (this summoning can possibly even transcend death if this is the case). The second is that, that was Hythlodaeus himself, which is also theorized to be Emet Selch before The Sundering, in this case being a memory that became sentient and aware of everything before us. Lastly, it’s because Emet himself was never truly destroyed via White Auracite, remember in order to destroy an Ascian, their beings must be sealed away and then vanquished with a Blade of Light, when we defeated him as Hades, he wasn’t sealed, we could have just gravely wounded him and he sat in the shadows to make an appearance using the last of his strength to help us.
@@b.v.2705 As much as I dislike it, I fear he is really dead. We did not seal him, but pierce him with an immense amount of light. I think the sealing just serves to hold him in place, while blowing the final cast. So, to me, the only explanation is our ability to summon people. But the dead? He is either shattered and gone for good, or he isn't. SE should make up their mind on that. And not let him show up again, despite all reason, just to do some fanservice. Personally, I had liked to have him back.

But only if an unsundered ascian awakens them. There was only three and the other 10 were only fragments. So with out Elidibus, Emet, or Lahabrea they can’t awaken anymore ascians.
So far the only ones left are
Fandaniel, Halmarut, Altima, Pashtarot and Deudalaphon. Emmerololth may be alive as they could have had a shard raised after their demise which would explain a plot hole in 2.3. However according to Emet it didn’t sound like they added to their numbers in 5.0. And Emet is the most honest Ascian.

Think that was the point. To him, we are the mindless villians preventing him from saving the world (his world) and his people. It seems fitting that the first world in existance would summon the first Warrior of Light in existance.
Based on whats revealed in 5.3, the original Warrior of Light seems to have been the fourteenth member of the Convocation, who wandered the original world righting wrongs - and it's strongly implied that Elidibus swore his original oath to protect the world to him. So to Elidibus' fractured memory, this is both a tribute to his lost friend, and the strongest form he could take.
@a HERO that doesn’t know what protect means if you recall, in the original FF after defeating Chaos and returning to their own time the Light Warriors erased their heroism because the world never needed saving. So by saving the world they made it not need heroes.
@@specialnewb9821 so to some degree you could consider the First a version of that world where they chose to continue their heroism or not erase it, and this simple act caused them to be worshipped as heroes and to inspire countless other warriors of light, at least some of whom would go on to cause the flood of light. It's likely this hero worship that allows a primal or similar being to be summoned in the original Warrior's image, an echo of that world's earliest memories fighting what it thinks is the equivalent of the Chaos its origin once destroyed. Assuming then that the First is some alternate form of FF1's world, we can then assume all the other shards we haven't seen are alternate forms of the other games' worlds, and that the reason features from those games' worlds appear in the main world of FFXIV is because the worlds they're from have already been rejoined to the Source. This makes a lot of sense when you consider the numbers of each shard that's been rejoined.
That's the point though. Elidibus is perverting what it means to be a hero. It's fitting that the copy cat took on this form. And I love it.

Even after beating Endwalker this is still my absolute favorite Trial in the game, the music, the mechanics, the absolute fuckin fanservice of the design of both the boss and the adds that send AoEs into the arena, it's absolutely perfect.

I've been noticing some things slipping past my radar after the fact, but from what I heard, the syllable is held for a weirdly long time, that's why I kept it the same. Edit: Huh, I think you're on to something. It's very faint and the change in pitch masks it, but I do hear a very soft d sound. I say that's enough evidence to change it to fading. I'm gonna run through another check and list some areas I think are still uncertain for feedback.
Alright, I guess I'll work my way down from the top.
1. "tonight, and don't lose faith" I'm hearing different things now that I've taken some time listening to that part. I've heard "tonight, I atone this day", which does seem a little better, even if the I could be very brief much like the who in "Disgrace onto who cannot see". For now this is my best guess, or somewhere close to that. This also means that both of the chorus have the same lyrics.
2. The "Our hearts be not gone affray" line. I have almost no idea what this line could be but this is what I heard and it kind of fits. to be affray is to be in combat, which could be a metaphor to being disturbed. Let me know your thoughts on this one, I'm pretty stuck when it comes to this line.
OK, I guess those were the only things. 1 was gonna also have a 2 because I thought they were different lines but they are not. That's all I got.
Edit: OK, I got a new edit. "Without our compass, wandering, lost in lies, afraid" should be "Without a compass, wandering, lost in lies of fate". I'm just gonna keep editing this post with stuff I find so I can save y'all the trouble of a million notifications.

The amount of references in this fight. The most obvious one aside from Elidibus taking the form of the WoL, is that the black and white mages that he summond at the beginning of phase 2 is probably Porom and Palom from FFIV since they cast twincast
edit: You can also see Cecil behind him during the cutscene where he summons heroes
the dark knight that looks like Cecil, has a miqo'te or a Hrothgar model sadly, i got excited when i saw him too given you cant really tell his race right off the bat until i saw the tail
@@DarkOmegaZero just because he uses a non-hyur model doesn't mean its not a reference to him. He's even wearing the Baron helm. Plus I think the models are there for diversity as well as references. Like how the BLM and WHM are lalafells to represent Palom and Porom, since they were kids. I think the only Hyur is the Summoner or Rydia in this case, as far as I can tell. Can't see the ninja all that well sadly.
Edit: it actually looks like the Ninja is a female Au Ra, but I can't tell from the low resolution and smallness of the video. Bit the DRK doesn't seem to have a tail.

I rarely get to enjoy learning a fight with others when content is so new. What an awesome experience and fight to do it with. This might be my favorite fight!

With additional context from endwalker, of course Emet was going to help us. The Ascians' plan was flawed from the get go and now he knows why.
This just cemented the fact that Emet found us worthy
For how arrogant he was, he had a nice back-up plan in place in case we proved ourselves and beat him.

@@aarongeorge4885 I think it's pretty established at this point that Emet-Selch and Azem were friends. That's probably why he was willing to make allies of us in the first place; if we proved we could contain the light, it would show that we were getting close to being a complete version of his old buddy.
