I remember this from June and July 1980, when it was out in the U.K.. I was only young at the time, 4 years old. My family said this was a very thundery period in England, and June was particularly hot and humid at the start with severe thunderstorms. This song captures the atmosphere of a humid thundery summer, or warm sunny summers day.
We don't remember anything before we were born. We won't remember anything after we die. Maybe life is just remembering, and all we have in the end are memories. Bless you

The Cars where a cool band n Talking Heads n Tom Tom Club.. I don't want to be an all 80s snob..lol I wonder if it was released regionally? I grew up in West Hollywood but don't remember it on the radio...lol. that's great that we here knew the radio n albums, cassette n 8track. Great song .. I'm not sure if the first string instrument he played was an oriental string zither of some sort ? Violin was beautiful too .. Made it !
