I enjoy seeing his watch just kinda find it's own orientation every time he moves his arm. The little things about space are some of the coolest. Hope the journey is well Scott, it seems like it'd be a life changing experience just to be up there for an hour, let alone a year.
Thank you Commander Kelly. Your videos are the best. The more of these videos you can fit in to your busy schedule the better I say, they are very educational and interesting.
Hate when I float into my computer when I sleep. Could you imagine him simulating space sleeping at home with a bag against his bedroom wall bungeed in? It would make a great cartoon! What a great Commander. I salute your accomplishments. Thank you Sir.
Thank you CDR Kelly! I've enjoyed videos showing life onboard ISS stating with your "Window on the World" video showing the awesome views from the cupola. Looking forward to more of these life behind the scenes insights to life and work in low earth orbit. We appreciate all that you guys are doing!
I couldn't help but notice the default Windows desktop on the laptop, but I suppose that, in space, a simple image of a blue sky with scattered clouds and a green hill as seen from the ground is always a refreshing sight.
Thanks , that was great to see, looks like you're pretty comfy there, Good luck Scott for the rest of your time on the ISS. Greetings from Alabama...... Rosa
It's cool that a space explorer reads books about Shackleton's exploration in Anartica! I am sure Shackleton would have been pleased to know. Thanks for the tour!
Thanks for this video, the other tours of the iss usually skip this one matchbox sized private room for obvious reasons. Have a great year, seems like you sleep better than i do on earth.
That was just great! You seem like you'd be very easy to live with for a long stretch in an enclosed area... mellow. Probably a good trait to possess in space.
They are busy with science experiments of which many/all are important and cannot be done in environments other than microgravity. I am in awe of all the astronauts and the scientists and technicians that put them there and keep them alive and all those who went before them. We can't all be interested in everything but this is an incredible setup and you might enjoy it if you read up about what's going on up there and back on Earth related to the space programmes of several nations.
That was a very intersting video! We always hear about the technical stuff going on on these missions, but it's nice to hear a little human interest stuff once in a while. I have always wondered about everything you just covered. It's great that you can remain connected to everything going on on the ground. I always wondered how you handled things of that nature. I leanred a great deal. Thank you so much!
Man that was very cool to see. Would love to see you make more videos about life on the station, it's fascinating :) I'd really like to know what kind of work you do too. Thanks for making the video!
Thanks Commander Kelly. I'm following you on Tweeter and waiting for your great pics. Saudações do Rio de Janeiro. Fluminense Campeão Brasileiro 2010!!
No window room? lol It's really cool thanks for the video. Interesting to know that for Skype and stuff like that it depends on your relation to the satellite. That's not something people here on Earth think about. It's nice to know that you can personalize your little room
Great video, very informative. Thanks a lot for taking the tme to make this. Mind if I ask how much atrophy you guys experience after one of these trips and why they still aren't using centripedal force to create an artificial gravity on space stationes?
Updating to linux debian 6 in 2014. "We migrated key functions from Windows to Linux because we needed an operating system that was stable and reliable - one that would give us in-house control,"
@SteveBrandon I noticed the same thing. I mean, I have backgrounds of earth views from space so you're probably right in that a view of earth from..earth would be a nice change and reminder of home.
It would be pretty neat if NASA could start another ISS-like project, and all the equipment on board was state of the art(as of 2012, or whenever they would do it). There would be so much more room for everyone.
How trippy would it be if they blindfolded you while boarding the ISS while it was 100% empty, and they placed you upside down. You would never know which way is truly up.
Apparently no one understands why i'm saying. When you are on earth, which everyone is, you have an up and down sense. When you are in space, it is not natural to have an up and down orientation. But when you are used to knowing up from down, imagine being in a place (The ISS) where there is no up and down, and trying to figure out where up and down would be.
TheCoolStuffHD You would pretty rapidly give up all sense of up and down. Up and down would be whichever direction you would stay to read text in the correct orientation.
@henki9999 They often have extra watches because of experiments that they are doing at the time... timing something. I saw one of them with three watches in some interview.
@TheIndustrialphreak You are absolutely right. Windows in space? Wtf? And why do they carry books to space? I thought weight is crucial, an ebook-reader would be so much more efficient weightwise.
is unbelievable how many videos it takes to get a tour around such a small place. I don't know if you guys take request but; a timelapse pictures session with a couple of rounds around the globe? has that been done? for instance 2 pictures a minute. Peace! Im subscribed and trying to catch up on all the videos
Videos like this need more attention. It's such a shame that we spend billions of dollars on this and so few people actually care about what we're doing. Watch this video max out at a few thousand views and fade into obscurity. The human race is doomed. :(
+romeaffair That's the desktop background from Windows XP. They likely still used it at the time due to compatibility reasons (also this was back in 2010)
Go to Amazon, and read "How to overcome fear, and start living fearless" it's a great read! and it's something that will make you see plenty of things about life!
This is so cool. It is just astonishing to realize that this is actually in space. IN FRICKING SPACE!
+wiet111 Technically, everyone is in space...
But I'm just gonna assume you meant the cold vacuum of outer space.
😁 詹姆斯😁 True. I didn't really formulate my comment properly. How awesome is it that there are actually people outside the earth's athmosphere!
+wiet111 actually, they are not, they are still surrounded by the atmosphere but much less.
Alwin Priven Still not accurate enough :) What I should have said is something like outside our layer of the athmosphere.
+wiet111 well yes, but over time it accumulates and slows down the ISS
I enjoy seeing his watch just kinda find it's own orientation every time he moves his arm. The little things about space are some of the coolest. Hope the journey is well Scott, it seems like it'd be a life changing experience just to be up there for an hour, let alone a year.
I guess you could say...
time flies up there.
+Daggerman2009 You're not making any more puns on my watch.
+Chase Blanchette I was going to make a watch pun, I could just never find the time.
+ddjjpp Well good thing you have hour thread, we're a second source of puns.
Thank you Commander Kelly. Your videos are the best. The more of these videos you can fit in to your busy schedule the better I say, they are very educational and interesting.
Commander, keep vids like this coming! Can't get enough of spacetravel since April 12th, 1981...
Hate when I float into my computer when I sleep. Could you imagine him simulating space sleeping at home with a bag against his bedroom wall bungeed in? It would make a great cartoon!
What a great Commander. I salute your accomplishments. Thank you Sir.

I'd stay there.. bet my back would feel better.. Thanks for sharing..
Imagine receiving a phone call from Scott in space. "Did you remember to take out the trash" or "best of luck for today". That would make my day... :)
Thank you Commander Kelly ! That was so interesting to watch ! I think you should have a reality show on network television !
I love that they can buy presents for family and friends online from in space!
Thank you Scott, what an amazing frontier that you are breaking through for humanity.
Hi Commander Kelly, the video is really nice and interesting; thanks a lot for sharing with us.
your efforts are respected and commended thank you for sharing this experience
This is awesome. I hope space exploration and eventually colonization goes farther in my lifetime.
Superb video. Thanks for sharing.
"Better than I do on Earth" Surreal hearing someone referring to Earth being somewhere they're not.
I really like your videos Commander Scott Kelly.
Greetings from Spain
I couldn't help but notice the default Windows desktop on the laptop, but I suppose that, in space, a simple image of a blue sky with scattered clouds and a green hill as seen from the ground is always a refreshing sight.
i love that humming sound, it would definitely help me sleep
greatest pickup line ever: "Hi my name is Scott Kelly and I'm an astronaut."
Thanks , that was great to see, looks like you're pretty comfy there, Good luck Scott for the rest of your time on the ISS. Greetings from Alabama...... Rosa
Nice, thanks 🥰🥰🥰
It's cool that a space explorer reads books about Shackleton's exploration in Anartica! I am sure Shackleton would have been pleased to know. Thanks for the tour!
Anyone else brought here by Smarter Every Day?
I wasn't but can't get the link tot he video gag brought you here
do you know why he is wearing two watches?
One is just a watch, the other is for a sleep study.
Yep
Levi Klopfenstein yes
"it doesn't feel like I'm sleeping on the ceiling"
What a badass thing to say, haha
Thanks for this video, the other tours of the iss usually skip this one matchbox sized private room for obvious reasons. Have a great year, seems like you sleep better than i do on earth.
Nice one Commander Scott..!!

Commander Kelly, Shipping for the online orders you mentioned must be "out of this world".
Thank you for sharing this amazing experience with us, Commander! (I am definitely in the wrong line of work!)
Thanks for giving us a glimpse into your personal abode in space. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2011.
Truly a hero! Much respect.
Great video; very informative. That actually doesn't look too bad. I definitely wouldn't mind a week or so in that cozy little room :-)
That was a very intersting video! We always hear about the technical stuff going on on these missions, but it's nice to hear a little human interest stuff once in a while. Thanks for the video! God bless you all!
Wow, very interesting! Thank you, Mr. Kelly!!
Scott Kelly your my hero! I love the video series about day to day things on the ISS
gotta love the velcro
Thanks for sharing. Showing laptops running XP is imprudent
Cool video. Thank you 😊
Great video Scott, hope the plans for you and your brother to meet on orbit work out.
Thanks Commander Kelly. I'm following you on Tweeter and waiting for your great pics. Saudações do Rio de Janeiro. Fluminense Campeão Brasileiro 2010!!

That was awesome, thanks for posting !
you, sir, are awesome!! happy camping in space :)
Very interesting, thank you for sharing!
this has to be my pick for the 'coolest' astronaut
Excellent!
Interesting stuff. I was kinda hoping he would show like the book hovers in the mid-air at the end.
That was fascinating. I could see how sleeping would be so good.
keep making these videos their great i love them
you guy's are awesome !!
Hi. I'm Commander Scott Kelly, and I do my banking in space. Thank you.
bose headsets :o , you guys have got some comfort there , LOL , Enjoy the music.
Best wishes :D
I love Shackleton and the Antarctic it’s a great story
wow your reading my cousins book in space. thats amazing
I really wish having a space like that in Zero Gravity!
I'd be happy to be stuck in space with Scott Kelly.
4:35 That's a very interesting thing to say... "We don't have a whole lot of space here" - said from Space.
Thank you Commander. Why 2 watches?
Great video, very informative.
Thanks a lot for taking the tme to make this.
Mind if I ask how much atrophy you guys experience after one of these trips and why they still aren't using centripedal force to create an artificial gravity on space stationes?
MAY 27, 2016 :D my GOODNESS ! :D how i wish i could be one of them :'( from the PHILIPPINES here.. :(
can t wait for your one year stay
Updating to linux debian 6 in 2014.
"We migrated key functions from Windows to Linux because we needed an operating system that was stable and reliable - one that would give us in-house control,"
they made a movie about the long walk, its called the way back. good movie
@SteveBrandon I noticed the same thing. I mean, I have backgrounds of earth views from space so you're probably right in that a view of earth from..earth would be a nice change and reminder of home.
@VulcanFleet indeed,it would be awesome
i like it how he comes floating in lol
It would be pretty neat if NASA could start another ISS-like project, and all the equipment on board was state of the art(as of 2012, or whenever they would do it). There would be so much more room for everyone.
How do you know which one is the ceiling?
You can buy stuff online?
I'd love to see the shipping address.
How trippy would it be if they blindfolded you while boarding the ISS while it was 100% empty, and they placed you upside down. You would never know which way is truly up.
Exactly, you'd be freaking out because you don't know which way is up. Because normally we know.
Technically, there is no up and down in space.
Apparently no one understands why i'm saying. When you are on earth, which everyone is, you have an up and down sense. When you are in space, it is not natural to have an up and down orientation. felixu95 But take out the text, and boom. You're confused.
thanks for this very interesting vid :)
what kind of work do you guys actually do up there?
Some people still like the feel and experience of what a book actually is.
@henki9999 They often have extra watches because of experiments that they are doing at the time... timing something.
I saw one of them with three watches in some interview.
This is all so much more interesting, because it's in SPAAAAAAAAACCEE.
its so cool that he can say stuff like i sleep better here than i do on earth. lol sounds like a funny quote from a funny space movie
@TheIndustrialphreak You are absolutely right. Windows in space? Wtf? And why do they carry books to space? I thought weight is crucial, an ebook-reader would be so much more efficient weightwise.

This entire video is hilarious for some reason.
Thinkpads and Windows XP - best combination ever.
@MrIndra1947 No problem. I get them confused all the time.
Any spare living quarters? I really want to live in space, Must be an amazing exeriance
Are the quarters soundproofed against all that noise, or do they just get used to it?
I really want to try sleeping in zero gravity! It sounds so nice and comfortable.
@MrIndra1947 You are thinking of Mark Kelly's wife. Scott is his twin brother.
Very interesting videos. Unfortunately i can see not too much videos of iss i want MORE VIDEOSSSS.
Videos like this need more attention. It's such a shame that we spend billions of dollars on this and so few people actually care about what we're doing.
Watch this video max out at a few thousand views and fade into obscurity. The human race is doomed. :(
If you order pizza from the ISS, does it arrive in 30 minutes or less? XD
Its like being on a submarine but with less gravity
0:03 what a cool thing to be able to say!
It's hilarious that his screen saver is of fields when many people's would be of the earth from space.
+romeaffair That's the desktop background from Windows XP. They likely still used it at the time due to compatibility reasons (also this was back in 2010)
Quite impressif!
how is the atmosphere there hot or cold
Go to Amazon, and read "How to overcome fear, and start living fearless" it's a great read! and it's something that will make you see plenty of things about life!
How do you do laundry up there ?
I need to be with that man o m g
