"To bring" in Spanish: "Llevar" or "Traer"?

- Опубликовано: 1 фев 2016
- Learn fast and easy how to use the verbs "llevar" and "traer" in Spanish. Whereas in English you would say "to bring", in Spanish we use two different verbs. One, "llevar", is used when you want to take something from here to there (de aquí para allá). The other, "traer", is the opposite because you are taking that something from there to here. Aha! This is the difference between these two Spanish verbs. If you watch my lesson, you will learn these two verbs with examples, and details so you will not make mistakes. More importantly, if you are invited to a party, you will know which one you should use. Now, if you do not watch my lesson, then you are losing your opportunity to learn Spanish for FREE. Stop making excuses to learn Spanish. Be bilingual without spending one cent, with me, Butterfly Spanish, and start exercising your Latin mouth muscles :)

This is great. I always thought 'llevar' and 'traer' had the same meaning and were interchangeable but now I know better. Also, it's easy to remember which one to use when if I think about the phrase 'para llevar' which has the meaning of ordering some food 'to go'. If you order 'to go' from a restaurant, you are always taking it with you - they're not bringing it to you, so it's 'llevar'. Thanks for the excellent lesson.
Oooooh did not know that. Thanks!!
Ana is the best Spanish teacher ever on RUclips. She’s articulate, cute and funny for me to watch and learn.
Agreed
I wish I had Anna for my Spanish teacher when I was in school. She makes learning fun, humorous and memorable. She is better than any of the "Apps" that are being touted as a simplified means of learning Spanish. Wonderful job, Anna, I look forward to engaging in your tutorials and feel both comfortable and confident in my ability to converse in Spanish. Besides....you have a cute personality too, which helps stay engaged. Thank you.
Apps are good to learn vocabulary. She is very good in showing how to use it! 😂

Every time she says “do you understand?” I say yes. I feel like I’m in a classroom.

@@richardgallowaysr.2129 yeaah but communication I don't think it'll be working at all😐
Same here ( aqualmente)
Same
Using 'llevar' seems to be the same as 'take' in English. 'Take the cake' and traer 'bring'. Love your lessons. Thanks Anna.
Quiero llevar este lección conmigo en mi cabecita. Gracias de nuevo!!! Amo este canal y estoy muy emocionada a aprenderé mas
Best Spanish teacher hands down 🙌🏽⬇️
I've been teaching myself Spanish at home and the way I understood it is that llevar also kinda means to carry so it's like you ask someone to bring you something and then they agree to carry it to you
Ana is a very good teacher. This is my 2nd lesson with her. She is clear and precise, her examples illustrate clearly the difference between the two words. And she smiles pretty too.Thank you Ana.

.Eres mejor que mi libro. De esa manera se dice sin el mas. soy nativo de lengua española.
Ana, tus clases me ha ayudado mucho. Lo mejor es que esta clase es más fácil para mi ya que es casi como en portugués (levar e trazer). Muchas gracias y saludos desde Brasil!!!
This is a wonderful video. I want this woman as my teacher!!
Few realize how impressive it is that this was one-take, few cuts/edits
Please keep up the great work and the consistency. Your efforts do not go unnoticed. Great video!
Gracias Ana.
An easy way to remember: Llevar vs Traer...
Llevar (far). Traer (here). This will help me (and you) keep the two sorted out.
(To bring hERe (traer) to bring from far away, to over there llevAR (FAR).
I always say, gracias to Anna after each class as if she is right here with me.
Muchas gracias Ana🙏🏻 Tus explicaciones son tan útiles 👍🏼👍🏼😁
This lesson is 5 years old, but it is also a Friday and I learned so much. I always wondered what the difference was. Muchas gracias maestra!
Thanks Ana for another very useful lesson! What helps me keep these two verbs straight is to think of llevar as "delivering" something somewhere. I think of traer as someone bringing something to my location.
He quiero mucho! Estoy aprendiendo mucho todos los días de tu lecciones
Also note the translation of "Do you want me to bring something?" "¿Quires que lleve algo? Lleve is the SUBJUNCTIVE form! The subjunctive form is always used after "Do you want me, him, her, us them TO DO something?"
I was wondering about that. Thanks for the info!
Thank you so much I was confused for a sec
Estoy Novanski de Indonesia, después de aprender español de tu canal, ahora que me hablas español muchos. con mi amigo de América Latina. Muchas gracias.. God Bless You señora..

You are an excellent teacher, I love your sense of humor.
“Llevar” has the double L and so does there “allí”. I will use that mnemonic to remember the difference
Thats a great point
For the lazy its a Y sound. For those who want to sound more fluent its almost a hard J sound melded with a Y
Como se llama (jYama)
Best Spanish RUclips teacher❤

Dear Ana,

I'm a colombian guy and her way to speak spanish is good guys.
+SebGling columbians speak the best spanish. that's what my friend and tutor who is from columbia tells me.
right
+bryan mannoia You are right, Costeño accent from Colombia is crystal clear, Sofía Vergara and Shakira are the best examples of neutral Spanish... as they are the best example of standart English too :)
you tell good stories, Ana! you make learning Spanish fun!
Tú eres una buena maestra.
Thank you for your help.
+Mike Gasso Muchas gracias a ti. Espero que estés aprendiendo mucho :)
This is a superb lesson (as always from Ana). I found that for me to remember the usage I think of from 'T'here --> Here is 'T'raer - i.e. Both start with the letter 'T' and once you know the scenario There-->Here then use Traer, else use llevar. This simplified the usage for me considerably.
What would we be without you? You make it so fun! Thanks a lot!
Thank you Anna! I really like the way you explain things. It helps me to understand, and retain what you have said. Very easy to understand!
So grateful for your channel!! Finally getting better with my grammar

You are the best Spanish teacher
I think you do a great job explaining the differences and I really appreciate your videos .
Anna I love the way you teach please keep up the good work I hope I will be able to speak Spanish very well soon. I am learning from your class on line . Thanks a million.
Actually, English does have two verbs that are similar to llevar and traer : bring and take. The difference between the use of these 2 words is the location of the speaker to the listener and the direction of which the action will be going. Here are some examples: Take your dog away, it is scaring my child. (Wouldn't say, "bring your dog away.") Take this coffee to the table in the corner. Thank you, for bringing my coffee. Teacher to student: Take your project home to finish and bring it back tomorrow.
It seems similar rules apply to bring/take and llevar/traer. (Ooops, just saw djb1ge's comment. :) :)
Tienes razón :)
AugustHawk
I thought TOMAR = TAKE
AugustHawk
You are right.
You're a great teacher. Usted es una maestra maravillosa.
Am in an intermediate level in Turkish language. I find it difficult at this point to advance because to have someone like you, who explains vividly some simple but very important facts like these (in this and other vids of yours) is really hard in Turkish because most of them (Turks that is.) do not speak English. So thank you a million, Anna. Am a beginner in Spanish but I already know (or rather felt) where am going after sometime. You make it sound and feel so easy. I hope I'll add Spanish in my languange bundle, thanks to you. (btw my mother-tongue is Swahili)
+Flavia de LuceMuchas gracias por tu lindo comentario. Te mando saludos :)
Wow! Are you from Tanzania?

Gracias Ana. I was very confused on the correct way to choose between the two verbs. You have helped clarify the concept so well.

Querida Ana, tienes que explicar que “lleve” es en presente de subjuntivo. ¡Gracias!

English is as complicated about that as well. As another commenter noted, English uses "to bring" and "to take," and generally, "to bring" is means to the person speaking, while "to take" means to somewhere else, not including to where the person speaking is or will be, e.g. "I will bring the cake with me to your house, (where you'll be)" while "I will take the cake to your mother's house." The use of "to bring" meaning to take an object or person to a location other than that of the speaker or the responder is peculiar to the Northeast part of the United States. An example would be to ask someone to "bring the car to the garage," when speaker to not requesting something be brought to him/her but to a third location. Elsewhere, it would be "take the car to the garage."
In parts of the South, there is a usage of "to carry" (llevar) when referring to taking a person somewhere else. E.g. "Would you carry me to the store so I can buy groceries?"
Your videos are so useful, nice and you are explaining very well! You are a great teacher! Thank you for all! :)
