@@troyrussell177 Reid makes a lot of considerations before telling about them for sure. He is playing on a whole other level than LSV though. I had a deck like this yesterday. Black Lotus, Lurrus, and a slug of awesome 4 drops to power into on turn 1. Even got to turn 2 fractured identity a reanimator opponent. This is the kind of deck that makes vintage cube special... crazy stylized archetypes built around the best cards in the game's history.
at 47:17 to answer your question about nothing getting forced the turn before. you cast time spiral and only cast brainstorm, bauble, and brain freeze for force targets afterwards
"oh I'm going to 3-0 with this deck so hard" Some dude with some beating boys and a permanent Force of Negation in hand "Not so fast, cowboy". Second match was pretty brutal.
Definitely a thoughtseize or even duress would have helped his deck sk much, to beat that force for example. A force of his own (negation or will) would have filled a similar role. Shouldn’t “dispel” be in the cube btw!? Also, a bow-masters, snapcaster, or baleful stric instead of the mediocre fallaji archeologist and skydiver 2 drop creatures.
At 37:30 can win this turn by: DT for Breach, crack Lotus for red, play Lotus off of Breach, crack Lotus for black, then DT using Jace to get Brain Freeze
Or just by doing what he did (Jace recast Time Warp) then going DT --> Breach, Breach recast DT for Brain Freeze, etc. The double lotus off Lurrus gives him enough mana
24:40 is there a reason why this play is worse than just playing top? put back top + land, frantic search using 3 blue sources but float a black, untap the swamp so you can cast lurrus, recast top from graveyard. I guess you wouldn't have a mana floating to spin but you could spin upkeep so seems reasonably good.
Would it be potentially worthwhile to board in Gemstone Caverns on the draw? You still risk drawing it later, of course, but I like it a lot more when I know I'm on the draw. Edit: Never mind that, I posted this after match 1.
That second game of match 2 was winnable, you just needed to start with high tide. That would net you 3 additional mana that turn, which means when your lotus gets forced, you can then cabal ritual into yawg will and win very easily. Talisker might go for forcing the draw instead of the lotus if they see you have more mana to work with, but at least you have a better shot, and if he does that, at worst you get to keep up karakas to not lose on the spot and have a chance at winning next turn (which should be pretty easy).
that requires foreknowledge that your top 3 are lotus/rit/will. The default play there is to run out top and then plan to grasp the giant and karakas boo.
@@theothersamb2320 The deck was pretty broken, I think it's fine to go for the gusto and start with high tide. There are so many possible cards in the top 3 that make that the best route. You also have Lorien Revealed in hand, so casting high tide still lets you take the line of lorien+top into leave up Karakas. I don't know if I would worry about Grasp, since it only saves you 2 damage and trying to leave it up restricts the ability to lorien that turn.
Talisker played Malcolm on LSVs main instead of his endstep so he couldve tapped top to draw lotus, sac lotus, play lurrus, play lotus, frantic search, echo of eons etc
Luis didn't want to go for play lotus into Lurrus because Talisker could have a two mana counter. Talisker tapped out during Luis' first main phase assuming Luis' turn was over (since he was showing no open mana) and could've gotten punished by Luis playing lotus and Lurrus second main phase
There’s a new £20 2 drop in the vampire ixalan deck I think should be good in cube. Does anyone have any thoughts on it? Dunno if it’s on mtgo yet being a commander card
57:52 It just occurred to me: Could these drafts be done in 4 rounds so that every team member plays against every opposing team member? Or is that too much of a time commitment/other logistical issue?
@@iamjeramy seems odd for that combo in particular to be able to show up with one, but not the other. I know that's the nature of the beast, but still feels weird.
@@MrArbaras That's drafting! You could have a cube of just enough cards for a draft, but you will get all the same cards every time and will not have many different deckbuilding options. So most cubes are like 450-720 cards (720 means you can run 2 eight player drafts with the same cube). Foundry is also good outside the combo. You can upgrade treasures, clues, or map tokens into 1/1 flyers.
Lol have you seen the video? The amount of games won solely because of Lurrus in the companion zone was ridiculous, there is a reason he is banned everywhere.
You didn't have to lose game 2, you coulda just held up karakas and bought time. Boo is legendary right?! so just Karakas it when it declares attacks. he only had 3 cards left so u were a favorite to win.
And then you didn't even lose, so I guess no one did any learning lol. I'm sure there's even a lesson I could have learned from it, but let's keep the theme.

It makes them great for learning… not to throw shade but verses Reid duke and even when he describes the plays, I don’t get it.

I think it is safe to bookmark this one for the 2024 recap!
This deck is for sure going to be in the highlights at the end of the year. Gyat dayum.
This deck was like Bald Bull charging, and that force of negation at 46:43 was like the perfectly timed gut punch from Little Mac.

Knowing Dockside is in a 1v1 format should quench my paranoia that it won't be absolutely busted but my CEDH trauma tells me otherwise
To be fair to you it’s still pretty gross, between treasures, mana rocks, low-drop enchantments, etc.
@@NightOfCrystals it sucks outside of commander tbh. But there it's on par with the most degenerate mana engines in the game.

match 1 game 1 do you freeze yourself first so you have cards in the grave to be able to use breach?
What’s the secret to opening all these lotuses?

Guarantee your opponent to cast multiple force of negations
BK has been taking note of Louis constantly bargaining with the Magic gods. Must be the secret.

...Not only were you battling dogs and wombats, you were also battling an elemental! 😆

Dang I hate it when they have literally only one relevant card and have it twice. Part of storm life though.
So much for cutting Taslisker a break. Never again!lol

Did someone hate the sword of the meek there? Where did it go? Seems odd that Foundry would table pack 1 and then sword never even made it to LSV.
