What are Herkimer Diamonds? Short Informational Video

I'm just explaining a little bit here what Herkimer Diamonds are because i keep getting comments saying they look like quartz. Well, that is true. They are quartz crystals with the name "Herkimer Diamond."
Herkimer Diamonds have a hardness of 7.5 on the Mohs Hardness Scale, while normal quartz is at a 7.
Now, how often do you see quartz used in jewelry? Not too often, right? Well, considering Herkimers are a 7.5 hardness, that's just the same as the more valuable gemstone, Emerald. So these diamonds theoretically can be used for jewelry as well.
The crystals range from 400-500 million years old and are found in extremely silicified rock called Dolostone.
The crystals have the same chemical build as normal quartz, (SiO2).
One silica per 2 oxygen goes into the making of quartz, same with Herkimers.
They have been mined since the late 18th century, so not nearly as long as other minerals.
They get their name from the quality, facets, and natural double terminations that replicate a diamond. And the fact they are harder than quartz makes them more desirable.
The Name Herkimer comes from the area where they were discovered, in the Herkimer County of New York. Combine those two together, and you come out with Herkimer Diamonds!
Have you ever heard of Pecos Diamonds from New Meixco? Well, those look even less of a diamond and are just normal quartz, so why call it Diamond again? Well, once again, it comes from the way they naturally form.
The name Diamond is not to be elusive or fool people. it's just simply the nam e that was chosen due to the way Herkimer Diamonds form.

Yeah! I'm sure there's other quartz that's as hard as these, but for the most part these crystals are harder and more durable than other regular quartz crystals
