  • I was having some major doubts about the Tamiya MB-01 chassis after my initial run. The RWD configuration was slick, and not in a good way. I couldn't make it go straight to save my life.
    #tamiya #alfa #mb01 #rcracing #fire
Cool thing about this chassis is that it can easily be converted to FWD in under 10 minutes! In today's video, we'll modify the chassis from RWD to FWD, upgrade the motor as there maaaay have been a fire, and we'll get it back out for more testing.

Great review Fil, in fact it was SMOKIN!!! 😅 I think your conclusions make complete sense dude, with all that slop in the running gear it's gonna be much worse in RWD setup. Very cool though how easy it is to convert to FWD. As for the motor burning out, I have no idea! Never had one go like that in all my years of RCing. Anyways, great info there my friend, you proved FWD is the way to go with this chassis. Stay excellent! Cheers! 🍻😁👊👍

It is a nice looking chassis and thats going to need a few upgrades.

Front wheel drive has been known to be more stable for decades. That's why car manufacturers went to it on passenger cars. It was only our stubborness for rear wheel drive that make us want to keep it in cars. The only real benefit to rear wheel is when pulling a trailer with a truck.

I have never seen a motor go up like that. It is almost like the esc was still telling it to move just enough to not move but build up heat maybe and eventually the brushes overheated. That is a new one on me. You'll have to read you Tamiya does and don't sheet and not leave you battery connected when not in use! LOL! Seriously I am glad it was not worse than that, I hope you checked your voltage in the battery to make sure it was stable too. No motor burnout on the FWD testing?
It would be interesting to get an A - B comparison since the swap takes less than ten minutes. Same surface.
I'll bet the smooth concrete of the skate park made the traction worse with water on it vs the asphalt of the parking lot. I don't doubt the FWD is more stable than RWD, I'd like to see someone tackle the 'known' improvements to see how close one can get the RWD to FWD.

    Skid marks!!!! 😂 😅 💩
OMG..... You may have to talk with Craig about this one mate, he's the master of RC car fires! 🔥
I think you should leave the skiddies on the roof.... It gives it character!
I'm guessing a combination of water and electricity, and a plugged in battery were probably to blame here dude..... luckily it was only a silver can that you killed! 😂
Maybe the ESC started sending power to the wheels due to being wet, and made the motor overheat as the car could not go anywhere in the boot? 🤔
'Strong and sloppy'..... that's certainly a good reason for her being an 'ex' if you ask me mate! 😂
Must admit, I do like the versatility of this kit, a great one for tinkerers I would say, and great to see you exploring the potential.

You call it slop, i call it active geomatry 👍 could of been water that caused the motor issue ? Or just a duff motor 🤔 moving the motor higher should give more grip as it will make the car lean more. Its one thing i dont understand but it worked on my cougar, slippery track and when i had the go pro on the top, it had more grip 🤔😂

I'm a Tamiya fanboy, through and through, I'll admit it. But I shoot from the hip and call 'em as I see 'em. I want to see this company thrive, but some of the stuff they're releasing these days is... Um... Well.... Not the best...

    • @scaleworksRC

@@poorboysrcYep, I love the whole Tamiya experience. It's like a working model you put together. The Kyosho I just got has a 29t pinion as well and it was surprising they went that high out of the box, but it works. I believe the spur is a 68t, and stock Tamiya comes with a 70t spur. So, they should be pretty close speed wise, and I'm quite happy with the Impreza. The Tamiya Golf or Escort is probably next on my list though. Love those 2 cars, and the chassis is older but seems to be solid for off road use.

For the motor. I don't know how long your way home was.
But it looks like your battery was still connected to the system. So, if a little bit of current fleed, not strong enough to turn the anchors, it might cause a motor burn.
If you had disconnected the battery, the hot urns might melt the isolation colour and cause a fire.
