The only one video that contains nice usage of yamaha's fife.
Thank you so much Naelerasmans! :)
Yes, this bald guy is absolutely amazing, he can even play so clean high notes on fife flute. It's very hard, because he have big jaws and lips, so he's really master of all kind of flutes, its a result years of hard work. Also, there is another video with this fife yamaha yrf 21, and girl play too very good. Not so brilliant as him but very good for amateurs.

Wow! I've had a Yamaha fife for years, and always considered it a wee bit difficult to play - harder than the recorder, or even the 'big' flute - but your playing has inspired me to dig the little instrument out again, and have a blow. Thanks.
Thank you so much for your kind words Allan, appreciate it! Enjoy! :)

Sounds great! Were you using a Yamaha fife?
Thank you so much! Yes it's a Yamaha plastic five! 😀
🤩
Awesome skills. I literally have the same flute! Where can I find the sheet music for this song so I can learn it? ❤
Bom dia dia meu! Muito chique 10💯👍👍👍👍
Olá Jorge, obrigado! :)
Boys of Bluehill, Harvest Home, and... ??? All very lovely. You're reminding of my old fiddling partner from Galway and many sweet young music students. Do you have a name for the 3rd hornpipe? I pulled out the old YRF 21 and could figure C major pretty quickly, but D instantly twisted me. Those fingerings are different than the baroque recorder or the six hole fife that I usually play. I bet that right hand pinky staying down so much can really help kids feel secure with their hold. Kudos for helping children with their music. Many thanks, and cheers to your mates.
Thanks so much for your kind words Greg, appreciate it. Hahahahaha spot on about the pinky! :)
I think the last song was a variation of the belfast hornpipe
@@MoinTango Thanks
I now understand why he won a Grammy

I am so inspired by this, Quick question I recently picked up the same fife you have from amazon and I'm currently trying to learn the fingering. Do you have any tips for someone who is new to the fife? The fingering chart that came with it is a little confusing and I don't know what note I should start and how to progress after that. Thanks :)
Play them all and then put them in order from low doot to high doot.
Then play them from high doot to low doot
Then mix em up.
...Amazing. which Fife is that?
It is a Yamaha YRF-21Y Fife. It costs about $11.00 on Amazon; proving, once again, it's the player and not the instrument. I have been playing flute and fife for over 25 years, and I find this Yamaha fife difficult to blow, as it is designed primarily as an entry instrument for children with smaller embouchures. Wouter has a very flexible embouchure (playing everything from bass flute to fife) and can squeeze his embouchure down to play this fife magnificently! Your experience may vary, but for the cost of two lattes, you can try it!
What is the typical octave range of a chromatic Fife? Also, how does its amplitude/ volume/ loudness compare with a soprano recorder? Thanks for any info
Would anyone know, is this an original piece or is it from a traditional tune?
Hi Silver John, it's a traditional tune! :)
@@wkellerman Thank you sir. I've taken up the same fife you were playing and you have definitely given me something to aim for;).
@@silverjohn6037 Thank you so much, enjoy! :)
🎼🎵🎶👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Does anybody know an actual way to achieve a perfect chromatic scale on the fife? I have trouble finding every combination without having to use half holes!
Im trying to learn fife because of this tune. Anyone know where i can find the fingering? Thanks so much and great job.
Lastima que el reggaeton este acabando con la buena música y los instrumentos musicales. Hermoso todo. ♥️
Hi wouter! where i could find the sheet of this music?
yes!!!!!
I would love to play this!!!
@@CharTarot Please send me a message on my Facebook Page and I will send you the attachment :)
I loved the sound of this instrument. I was in Northern Ireland 15 years ago and while eating dinner in The back of a pub, which being from Oklahoma USA, it was great. While I was their with 40 Pastors and leaders from the United States praying thru your country with our Native American Leaders I listened to a fife player and working a deal with him to purchase his and I ran out of time. I am looking for a new sound to add to my repertoire. I have the Irish whistle that was given to me from our tour guide and love to play it. So listening to you play I would love to purchase one and teaching videos to learn a fife. Curious what key that fife is in and what is it made of. Do you recommend a certain type and key. I play concert Flute, Alto Sax, Soprano Sax, Clarinet, G Irish Whistle, gm Native Flute so to add a Fife would be amazing. Can you give me some advise and possibly some direction.
Is this the $8 fife on Amazon?
Yes! That's the one DeAnne! :)
where to get the music sheet Mr ?
I'm learning to play the flute. Does the second octave D note sound bad? Can I play any song with this flute? Thanks
Sounds good, what doesn't are the sharps and flats
This is genuinely a jaunty tune. It makes me want to dance with a busty redhead with broad shoulders lmao
So this is a fife
Yep i also didnt know it can sound this good lol
This is shite....seriously
Thanks Colin! 😄
