At the beginning of the video, I felt so bad seeing as the dog’s tail is between her legs, showing great fear and discomfort. In the end, I’m glad they were able to to help her. 😇
@@Hoi_m8 Just because you see a sighthound with its tail behinds its legs doesn't always mean it's nervous or scared. They are just built like that, now this dog was very nervous tho :)
I think as long as each person is willing to play the long game patiently, it’s totally fine to work with Nellie on this. Many dogs can overcome phobias, and it may help her in a number of future circumstances-storms, for instance. Hopefully they can take separate cars or just the regular one on their trips in the meantime. Each of them has their focus in retirement-the wife has Nellie and the husband has his car. I think that’s fine! It’s nice to see Mike bond with her more. A dog built like a machine for speed may have a lot in common with his interests in vehicles, actually. There are many ways to tie their appreciations for what they love together, and there are plenty of easy compromises to suit both parties while they work on this with Nellie and bond further with her.
That is so cool such great pup parents and thank-you as I haven't had a problem with my dogs on car rides even in my loud volkswagen but it did help me as far as walks because my German shepherd terrier mixed is so afraid of walks and I never once thought about motions and loud noises so now I'll be able work with him see if I can improve his walks thanks for all that you do Victoria!
I have lived with Whippets for getting close to twenty years. They are each individual when it comes to riding in a vehicle. If I was planning to force my Whippet to accept the hotrod I would want them crated with matting below and around the crate situated behind the drivers seat with the front opening facing the passenger door. If she was more cocooned in the back I think it would cause less anxiety. Soft blankets and a bully stick. Less view and more support.
this episode does make me wonder if the body shape/build of sight hounds like her has the side effect of not being great at balancing in general in terms of standing still. i know they are great runners but i wonder if it came at a cost to them if that makes sense as i know that most of the extremes of dog shapes like the dascand, have issues as a result.
You may be onto something - my whippy hates not being on a solid surface, at one point he wouldn’t even walk over a wobbly manhole cover or wobbly tiles on the road. Also really scared of agility equipment that wobbles, he immediately jumps off of it.
I don't allow my pup a full open window it's not safe or good for his health...i am hopeful he grows out of being carsick...a bit difficult to train a service dog that can't go on outings ...lol

my own dog isn't social and i don't force her into social situations as i know its not good in the short or long run. there comes a time when you need to accept the pet for who they are, NOT what you want them to be! i am not a social person myself as i have ASD so i am in the same boat with my dog thankfully.
I've never gotten the thing about marriage and it's your dog it might be their dog however you're also living in the same house the dog doesn't have a choice why not help train help clean up after and feed the animal whether you like it or not you are a family now and I'm sure your spouse would appreciate it and why not do something small like play with their pet to make them happy
Poor baby 🥺🥺, why don't they get someone to dog sit for them? That way they can go away and enjoy that whilst the dog is not stressing. Stop trying to make the dog fit your lifestyle... you can't "make" a dog comfortable with noise and it looks like this dog is just sensitive to noise. Accept it, especially the husband who doesn't seem to care for the dog...
Maybe the answer is here somewhere, but would livevto know how and from what kind of materials the bed is made. Maybe I can make or search something like it for my dog who doesn´t like car rides and throws up from out of fear and nerves.
i think they had other options like have someone look after the dog while they camped or did it without her basically. That's what i would've done if i were in that situation. i don't like that so much of what they want is put on the dog instead of just learning to accept the dog for who she is. even victoria said she may never like car rides! there comes a point at which you need to accept who the dog is and isn't. if it means that you board the dog or whatever while you go on vacation or whatever may be better for everyone if they couldn't get someone to pet sit. just my other thoughts.

Maybe put her in the car, and don’t go anywhere. Don’t even turn the car on. Instead, give her treats. That way the car becomes a positive place. After you do that and she’s fine, turn on the car and give her treats. After you do that for a while, drive around the block. Continue to give her treats. Now the car will be a positive place.
the one thing that really upset me in this episode is that she at the end says to the camera that she doesn't think it'll be long before the dog enjoys car rides when she literally just told the owners to take a step backwards to help the dog who clearly wasn't ready for the first thing she told them to do with the dog in the car! i would've had them do what she told them to do with the dog at the end in the first place and then gradually build up the length of the drive. i sort of get why she told them to do it in that order but at the same time, to me it would've made more sense to just start at the beginning with the dog with just the association to the car etc. I also feel that maybe this dog isn't right for them to be honest because of the dogs personality. Sometimes it's hard to know what level to start with ... Victoria started with something that proved to be too much for Nellie, so she scaled it back. Let her sniff around the car, open the doors and let her check out the interior, set up the bed ... all with the engine off. Once she's comfortable, start all over with the engine idle. Then very short trips ... it may take a couple of years to get her used to being in the moving hot rod long enough to go anywhere. Or it may never happen - the couple needs to prepare for that.
@@lizcademy4809 I fully agree. It didn't sound like they were prepared to do that when victoria asks him about that possibility. he says they will need to compromise aka not giving her an answer at all.
