I've caught feral cats pretty easy using a leaf size black garbage bag. I place the hav-a-heart inside the bag, bait and set it and then place real garbage bags around it. Works every time for me. This method also protects the back of your car from cat spray during transport to the pound.
It is very simple. Place bags filled with garbage around and on top of the trap. Black leaf bags work best because they cover most of the trap. Place the trap inside the bag. Bait and set the trap. Place filled bags around the trap. Avoid interfering with the trap mechanics on the side. I didn't make this trap to kill cats. I caught cats. There are injured ones among them. I heal them. I feed them in my garden. Cats caught in this trap are very lucky.
