    Smacked the hell out of a coyote who kept coming to close to me while walking my fat ass down a wooded trail with the first model of stick.

    Got charged by an unruly mutt a couple weeks back- one thwack across his beak from my 5 .5 ft length of birch convinced the angry pooch that I wanted to be left alone..

    I purchased the Brazos 58" natural hickory walking stick a few years ago. I have used it all throughout the NC mountains and added an Elk Knob medallion to it after we hiked the Knob. It has been a great hiking stick and I get compliments on it all the time. They are a quality product made in the USA!

    how much should a walking staff weigh? when is it considered too heavy??

    • @BrazosWalkingSticks
      @BrazosWalkingSticks  4 года назад

      Really personal preference. A Hickory is the heaviest we sell. A large one could weigh well over two pounds. Some folks like that and feel safer, while some folks would much prefer one fund or less.

    this is a coming habit for seniors where I am in the Rockies. Lightweight sticks are also handy for poling ahead, downhill support on trails and steps, and the very occasional dog. Our black bears are all well behaved, but you never know! Noticed you also have "diamond willow" in one of your videos. In Ontario that was prized and pretty rare. I'll have to check the homestead this spring as thousands of acres have gone back to deer and moose browse.

    Unless you are amble walking on FLAT ground your staffs are all too short. For steep hills you need a staff a few inches taller than yourself. Also it looks like you are clear cutting all the second growth in your area :(

    • @BrazosWalkingSticks
      @BrazosWalkingSticks  5 лет назад +6

      Hello sir, Thanks for the recommendations. You are right, we size our sticks for general walking in semi developed trails and in flatter areas etc. However we do sell longer and adjustable staff for more serious day and multi mile hikers. Also we work closely with forestry managers so that we have no negative impact on the Forest. In fact we have a video explaining how. Basically our cutters come in right when the second growth is needing to be thinned. At this time in the process the keeper trees are about 6'' in diameter and the saplings we seek are actually in the way and are shredded or simply pushed over in the thinning process. Anyway, thanks for your time if you have read this far!

    • @keithcooper6715
      @keithcooper6715 5 лет назад +1

      @@BrazosWalkingSticks Thank You for your responce - I live where much of the second growth gets thined out by deer - Glad to hear you don't seem to have that problem and seem to have a responcible attitude to your environment
