This game is a great example of why SC is so popular, you don't see any close up action in it, but SC gives you real battle cinema even is it is at a a cartoon level.
I love it when a single big unit has a lot of different attacks it can perform at the same time (like the big ships, and the Titan in this match). It makes the bigger units feel like formidable weapon platforms that can take on a lot of units at a time. It's very satisfying to watch them shoot guns while launching missiles off it's back!
There is an alien race :D Not playable yet but we have a tower-defence mode in which you defend vs their swars, recommend it, its called Raptor Defense
I find myself enjoying these videos as they are much more chill than the sc2 ones. This means that I can do HW while watching it in the background without getting to distracted
What's crazy is how this game is still somehow more chill even when there's 8+ players on the field and there are dozens of nukes and giant robots turning the battlefield into a giant crater while the sound effects from every Transformers movie playing all at once blasts through the speakers.
@@EmperorSigismund simple, while there is a lot more stuff it is significantly smaller and less flashy than something like 160+ zerglings charging a tank line. As well as because winter is playing rather than casting.
It's less micro heavy than StarCraft. If there's a macro level RTS, those from Total Annihilation such as this game is one of them it doesn't rely on how fast your reflexes are to time your skills, it relies on your overall knowledge of Unit and Terrain. (some games allow you to even remodel the terrain for advantages, nothing beats making a mountain as a wall and bombarding your enemies behind it, some of them even cause terrain deformation if hit by something too hard). Complete with the fact you can automate unit production and transport, yeah Just leave it pumping Engineers I don't care. If they get caught under enemy fire, my engineers will heal themselves and recycle the enemy (otherwise known as the Grey Goo strategy in Supreme Commander) while building more resource and production buildings. This is one of the RTS that I can win without a full keyboard. (Just arrow keys, not hotkeys for construction, production, etc)
@@mr_confuseIt definitely requires a different mindset going into it, and proper camera settings so you don't get disorientated by the way the planets work. Also the epically large scale can potentially lead to frustration and/or panic at times.

Thank you for finding this! I used to play Battle Annihilation years ago, I sometime play Planetary Annihilation which is fun too, but not the same. Great content with SC and BAR.
PA is amazing. Fantastic controls, timeless artistic style, and the only RTS I know with 4 battle theatres. It's a masterpiece, and somehow it's ignored by 95% of the RTS community.
To expand on a theme in comments - the game looks great and I love that you're giving it some love. From a spectator experience standpoint, it doesn't hold out over long periods at high zoom. I wouldn't say I'm never willing to look at icons - if you're going to take in 1000 units and base and front lines all at once, icons are fine and stuff will be tiny. But you gotta zoom in on the front lines sometimes for eye candy. This game is DYING for an observer interface, a split screen or dual monitor view that lets you look zoomed out and zoomed in side by side, and a caster to help me explain what's going on. I played TA and SCFA and read the BAR website for hours but I can't tell one bot from another, or arty from rez bots from vehicles, etc out there. With some sustained attention to visual UI and storytelling for us clueless this game could EXPLODE. I don't have time or friends to try it myself as an old.
Wait this game is not 70-100€ (d4) with micro transactions. I might have to check this out. There used to be similar opensource game which I played 5-6 years ago, and it was pretty fun.
The counter tick spam is attack ground commands. So yeah more micro but your statics can handle the ticks if you make your arty Hit the ground where enemy mains are. Ticks are just a distraction you take out the pushing units you've halted the advance regardless how many ticks there are. So yeah to counter the tick spam.. literally just ignore the ticks. Difficult to do but better to attempt it than to just let it happen.
He did everything from a macro standpoint. It actually looks amazing closer in, this guy was just kind of cheesing it against inept opponents/setup match.
You're getting really good bro!! 🙌🏾 tick spam is great for distraction. Perhaps try some more artillery to protect your frontline next time so you don't have to spend so much time micro-ing

You should build Your first construction turret a lot quicker, and You should place it so all 3 nearby metal extractors are in range of Your construction turret, so it can help upgrade those 3 metal extractor. That is huge help when You go to level 2 tech. Usually I build about 5 to 6 solar collectors (or wind equivalent) and then i build INSTANTLY 8 to 10 advanced solar collectors and then build INSTANTLY level 2 factory. Also, my every lvl2 constructor is followed/supported by 3 lvl1 constructors.
I played a lot of supreme commander when I was young this looks like the same exact game with a new name and a larger following. Is that essentially what I’m seeing here?
Kinda hard to compare, especially cuz in BAR you can automate macro and even micro to an extent. But speaking strictly manual macro, SC2 definitely requires more macro, cuz most of the time you're building multiple different buildings (Stargates, Warp Gates, Hatcheries, and so on,) whereas this game you're encouraged to NOT spam unit production buildings, because there's construction turrets that speeds up both building building & unit production way more than spamming infrastructure.
I mean the company that made Planetary Annihilation worked on both Total Annihilation and Supreme Commander and BAR is based off of Total Annihilation.
