Excellent video! In case anyone looking to move from a Westy to a Tofino needs a nudge, my motivation for purchase and impressions align with yours almost exactly. I’ll add that there simply isn’t another camper van with with these specs that costs less. It’s near perfect for a certain type of adventurer.
Great video, thanks. I've been looking at the Tofino for awhile now, and love its features. Specifically, it seems to excel in compact size, electronics and quality reputation. One thing that has me looking more towards the Winnebago Solis though, is the increased cabinet storage, ability to stand up throughout the inside, and a bathroom. It is longer though, more expensive, and doesn't have the Lithium batteries, inverter and elegant touch screen control panel (made even larger for 2021) that the Tofino has. Lots of pros and cons for each.
Thanks for the comment Steve. I think there are pros and cons of both. Because I’m not living in this full time and because it’s made here in Canada, I chose the Tofino. I have a full van tour coming out next week with how I set mine up. I hope you get the chance to watch!

Great video Matt. Just did our first trip 3,000 miles from Florida to New York with stops in North Carolina, Maryland and Georgia. Posting my personalizations on the Facebook Group page to share what I've learned along the way. Keep up the excellent videography!
My fiancee and I live in Lloydminster, close to where we need to be for travel or purachase one of these from pleasureway. Your video made me consider this as a purchase.
I checked out this van 2 years ago at a local dealer and thought it was nice but decided not to buy it for one main reason. The area where you can stand is very small (probably about 2 ft x 3 ft). Essentially, you can only stand when you are next to the sink. If the area where you can stand extends further back (like the Westfalia), I would have bought it (despite poor reliability of Ram van).
Thanks Jason! It’s really helped having it. I’ve been able to be in Ontario for almost 3 months now to help with my father and still have the freedom to travel around
Wow you're very well spoken and make great videos. These seem like great coaches but always desire some sort of Max Fan from the ceiling. Especially without AC. What are your thoughts?
WoW, ton vidéo est vraiment super ! Great video, just the facts, pro and con, non rep bla bla bla, a real owner that share is reflections. It’s give me a good reference for my fist RV and Pleasureway is Canadian. Thanks from Montreal
Great review. I'm back to watching videos on camper RVs because I am going to have to replace my '95 Honda SOON and I want something for recreation, because I'm close to retirement... And I want a short vehicle for just shopping errands and parking spaces. NO TOILET though except as an add on unit. Mmm..what to do. I'm a Canadian US dual citizen living and working in California.
Hey Tony you describe my situation....recently retired and time for a new car. Want something to use for daily driver and RV. However, insurance is a problem. If you're a homeowner you must have another vehicle to insure the RV. Strangely, if you live in the van a second vehicle is not required. This came from Progressive, Good Sam and others.
@ $70k you have already doubled your value! 2022 are $140k. The only thing I didn't really like about the Tofino was that hole for the upper bunk vice the entire thing lifting like a Westfalia or Sportsmobile. Probably trademark issues. But the Tofino is a good start, esp with the repair costs of the Westys.
I purchased mine for just over $80K CAD which was around $70K USD at the time of the video. The retail is $74500 USD and most dealers are selling right at that price. I used USD as that’s the price most RVs / Vans on RUclips are listed in.
Hi Matt...Great video. I met you at the info centre and you showed me your van several months ago. I have one now...I've been doing a lot of trips to the Crowsnest Pass area. We should get together for a beer. Also maybe talk about some video work. Martin

Nice review. Love the Tofino. Will you give the dimensions of the garage (under the bed) with the bed down, in the sleeping configuration? Would you comment on the standing area? Specifically, do you think the upper bunk should follow the pop top roof up when not in use to give more room over the couch? Then pull the bunk down if needed. I wish PW would offer this w/o the upper bunk. Thanks, I look forward to seeing more vids on your Tofino.
Hey! I will try to measure the garage area for you when I empty it. For the standing area I wish it was another foot back, but I don’t think it necessarily needs to be right over the bench. From talking to PW, if they cut any more out it wouldn’t pass crush tests for road safety. Maybe one day I’ll mod it :)
Number of repair you had to do on such new vehicle is unbelievable. I would imagine Tofino was in the shop quite a bit. If the part was not available, you probably had to wait a week or two. I checked it out and personally was not impressed by the bed. It was super uncomfortable. Plus, standing area being so tiny doesn't allow you to walk around in the van.
Did you checkout the list I made? It’s pretty insane right? The good news is I’ve never had to leave it for longer than a few hours, haven’t paid a dollar out of pocket, and have had no MAJOR failures. I still struggled with this, but not having to pay out of pocket or fight with individual part manufactures certainly helped. For the bed, I think I agree but I’m unique in my choice of beds. For me it was perfect. For others they may want to bring down the cushion from the roof, although that’s not an elegant solution. The standing is a bit of an annoyance. I would have sacrificed a bit more open space for the bed up top but unfortunately it wouldn’t allow the build to pass the crush test safety tests here in Canada. Lots of great options though if you want the ability to walk! Thanks for watching.
It's been 4 years... Is it still your daily driver? I'm thinking about buying a factory built RV as daily driver, but concerned about how the systems would hold up under such beany l heavy use. Would love to get an update from you.
Am thinking of buying a 2022 ...hope some of your suggestions in 2020 come standard in the 2022...is there a space to carry, hide, & use a porta potty or cassette toilet? good info. Thanks!
Correct on all those. I have a portable toilet that works great. For the shower, I use the exterior shower in the garage or (more often) go to Anytime Fitness for a workout and shower (it’s 24 hours). No hot water is correct. I may add as an upgrade later. No AC except in the cab which actually does a great job of cooling things down. With these vehicles, it’s all about compromises. It’s almost unfair to compare to most RVs instead to custom van builds where people are used to making these types of compromises. For me, coming from a ‘87 Westy, this was exactly what I wanted.
@@scobelverse thanks Matt. Comparing this to the Solis, it seems that it takes about $45k to get the toilet, shower, AC, and a little longer. But from what I have seen Pleasure Way is a better build quality than Winnebago. I wish PW would make another pop up.
Thanks! It would be a great vehicle for that if it wasn’t for the lack of 3 point seats for the kids. I’ve heard a few people adding these as a mod (it’s a pretty glaring oversight). If you fix this issue then it’s the perfect vehicle for family adventure.
@@nickbarbaza9019 We use it for family trips with our kids. It works great! Though this was a concern initially, I've learned to live with the minimal risk involved mainly through cautious driving.
For me it’s super comfortable, but it’s firm. The poptop has a cushion which many people move down to the main bed. Some replace this with an actual memory foam.
Hey, thank you for the great review! I am in Alberta as well and I am wondering what dealer you went with and if you are happy with them. If you’re comfortable please provide what you paid for your unit. Thank you!
I think I explained that poorly. The bench has two safety belts, however they only go around your waist (not a 3 point system like we now have in all cars). It's still legal to drive with just the waist belt, but I think most people would be uncomfortable putting young children in these restraints.
This seems to be the closest thing to a VW Eurovan, or Vanagon, available in the US these days as far as I can tell. I am stumped as to why there aren’t more vehicles on the market that could serve as a daily driver sized van that doubles as a weekender. I have lost hope on VW’s new microbus ever coming the US, and even if it did, it looks more like a space moon rover, than something i want to drive everyday and maybe camp in. How’s this vehicle doing, maintenance, reliability wise now? Some quick research on the RAM 1500 van alone, reveals a pretty sub par rating unfortunately. I used to have.a 2002 VW Eurovan and ditched it before the problems got too expensive. But while I had it, I thought the ride quality was nice enough and enjoyed it. I do remember being astonished I had to pay 900 to fix an electrical problem that could only be solved by replacing some « computer ». I feel for what it is, it should be about 60k, 70k tops though. Currently they’re 85-95!!! And I was also astonished to see that the Ram’s entertainment unit is the same exact thing in my tiny Fiat 500e. Lol. But not a big deal. I wouldn’t bother replacing it because I can use my phone’s nav and audio via usb cable without delay just fine, can’t you? Would love to hear your follow up thoughts on the vehicle itself. Thanks for all your videos on this vehicle. I wish I had a video like this for every vehicle I’ve ever owned. It’s those little things that get to you after you live with it for a while that get under your skin after the fact that drive you nuts! Thanks for the repair list, noticed it’s not been edited since sept 2020. Up to date? Do you still own this vehicle? And Table/Refrigerator, what’s the difference, i mix those up all the time! 😂
Great questions. It costs between $10-12 here to fill the tank. The tank really varies depending on the conditions. On a -10C night, I've noticed the propane drops around 8% overnight. On a -20C night (two nights ago here) I saw the propane drop 20% over about a 12 hour period (I wasn't sleeping in there). Overall, I would say the heater is very efficient.
Hi Matt. Thanks for the video. I’m in the states trying to purchase a Tofino but I’m finding the dealers stick to the MSRP. Any tips on how to get a deal? Other campers I’ve looked at discount down from the MSRP. Feeling like I need to wait a while for demand to come down. Any thoughts? Still enjoying the van? Thanks.
Have you checked out the Tofino group on Facebook? Lots of great info in there. It’s really tough to negotiate a discount when there are such short supply. think I would just ask yourself how quickly you want this and whether the money you might save waiting is worth postponing the adventure. I do still love it! Only thing I may start to be annoyed with is the lack of 4x4. But we will see after I put in some beefy winter tires how it fares
The standard garage door height is 7 feet. Although , we are starting to see many homes with 8 foot garage door height, and in some instances a 7 footer can be swapped for a 8 footer with little to no modification. The Tofino is 8 feet 6 inches in height. If you remove the rack, you might be able to bring it down the 8 ft 4. Long story short… won’t fit in a standard garage.
I would say it's 5'10" with the roof closed. I can standup with a slight bend, but not fully extended. This is really part of the design though. When I need to standup I pop the top, enjoy the breeze and sunlight and the 9 foot ceiling.
DIRECT replacement is the Pioneer or kenwood that thor and winnebago uses! ITS ON YOU TUBE, THE ORIGINAL RADIO WAS A TOTAL FAILURE IN ITS OPERATIONS! These vans are already used for about 39999 becuase NO bathroom or hot water.........LOL! Thor is KILLING Pleseway with the scope and rize with pop top and a bathroom.......LOWER price pointy! Pleasureway has TOUGH competition price wise! Bye bye pleasureway Thor is killing it taking you on DIRECTLY at HALF the price on the class B rv vans!
I really like the layouts/floor plan that Thor has utilized. The build quality however is complete garbage. They actually make Winnebago look like luxurious craftsmanship. Which is saying something.
Hi David. I actually address this near the end of the video. There’s no doubt that this van (or similar) could be built for significantly less (although the poptop and windows are probably the hardest to replicate). However, my decision was a time vs. money evaluation and how much I wanted to continue to handle repairs, etc on my own. Since there’s a pretty incredible 5 year warranty on every single part included in this van (with labour included) and the company that makes these is a 7 hour drive away, it swayed me in that decision. I completely get where you’re coming from, but for me it was likely the right decision. Thanks for watching, I really appreciate it!
I see. I did comment before watching the entire video. It's a very nice van. I'm sure it suits all your needs. I like the the space it has. If the pop top was all the way across for head room only it would be perfect.

I think I explained that poorly. The bench has two safety belts, however they only go around your waist (not a 3 point system like we now have in all cars). It's still legal to drive with just the waist belt, but I think most people would be uncomfortable putting young children in these restraints.
This is a great review, and Tofino looks very attractive. Thanks. BTW, what is your real world mpg like with Tofino?
I've been getting around 13.5 L / 100KM. You'll have to do the conversion :)
How long does your propane last in cold winter months ? How much does it cost to fill an empty tank ?
Great questions. It costs between $10-12 here to fill the tank. The tank really varies depending on the conditions. On a -10C night, I've noticed the propane drops around 8% overnight. On a -20C night (two nights ago here) I saw the propane drop 20% over about a 12 hour period (I wasn't sleeping in there). Overall, I would say the heater is very efficient.
Cool van but man for $70k they should put a tv in there bro!
Nobody uses TVs any more bro. It’s 2021.
@@scobelverse really? No one uses camper vans anymore either but hey! 😆 I’m just sayin, throw a tv, Ipad...etc something for entertainment
2021? Haha that boy defending his purchase
I’m not even kidding. I don’t know anyone who sits and watches TV. Laptop, iPad, smartphone. I can’t see any reason to have a TV in one of these.
@@scobelverse wait till ya have kids
I am interested in getting a Tofino, but I am finding the dealers are asking for more than 70,000.
Mileage?
$70k Canadian I'm assuming??
Do you sleep in the poptop with your dog? Wonder if there is a chance the dog will accidentally fall through the hole.
Sooooo...when are you passing through again? ;)
Probably within the next month!
Sold!
Do you still own your Tofino?
Is there an A/C please? Thank you!
The cab has AC but only works when the vehicle is running.
Will it fit in my garage?
The standard garage door height is 7 feet. Although , we are starting to see many homes with 8 foot garage door height, and in some instances a 7 footer can be swapped for a 8 footer with little to no modification. The Tofino is 8 feet 6 inches in height. If you remove the rack, you might be able to bring it down the 8 ft 4. Long story short… won’t fit in a standard garage.
sooo. . Seriously .... how many much 'work' / 'watts' for the solar?
saying it is 'x' amps means nothing at all!
Where did you find this for $70,000
The year 2019
Good question. They are going for $98,000 at VanCity now. Inflation?
The interior must be very low. You’re 6’ and couldn’t stand up if the top weren’t opened.
I would say it's 5'10" with the roof closed. I can standup with a slight bend, but not fully extended.
This is really part of the design though. When I need to standup I pop the top, enjoy the breeze and sunlight and the 9 foot ceiling.

Can you still afford this lifestyle in 2024 ?
Love this van but hopefully you paid less then 70
Hi Leslie! I'm not sure why I missed this. I paid just around $70K USD.
Very minimal setup. Could have been made for a lot less. Do I think it's worth $70,000? No
@@davidpiccolo3039 I think when the warranty is expired I might consider having more of the roof cut out and hanging a hammock up there :)
@@scobelverse Great idea Matt!!!
Is it just me or does every RV in America come with a dog?
Optional add-on item at the dealership :)
@@scobelverse I hope they put out a silent model that doesn't poop everywhere soon :)
No potty no shower no sale
Lots of RVs like that on the market. This is for a difference audience.
Not wroth 70k. 25k maybe 🤔
