My room is always the first to get neglected, but especially during the holidays. I depend too much on being able to just shut the door and keep it out of sight. Plus, haven't had luck finding a system for certain things that works for both me and my husband. So it becomes a mess way too easily. Same with my kids' rooms, but somehow I can stay on top of them. Lol.

Haha, I have never in my life sorted my laundry and have never had an issue. I just throw everything together and keep it moving!!
I also hate putting away my laundry, mainly because its overwhelming to sort them out, So, what i’ve done is to separate my bottoms from my tops. Gym clothes, lounge wear, socks, and undies. Not only do I take less time putting away my laundry now, but it helps me focus on just one section and I actually enjoy it now. Also, I noticed that my laundry looks a lot cleaner? 😂 ok ocd much? 🤷🏻♀️
Love watching your videos! You're room looks so pretty! I used to sort my laundry like you, especially when I had all 6 of my kids at home growing up. Now that I'm older the only thing I do seperate are towels from clothes. Unless i have colors that will Bleed all the clothes go in together to save me time. They all get clean. I do however dry things different. For instance I hang dry my delicate items so they don't shrink and also air fluff my shirts and my sons shirts so they don't shrink. Everything else goes on heat but it's usually low heat. I also am big on not letting things sit in dryer. I immediately fold and hang items. My 2 sons that are still home put their things away and I put my husband's and my things away.
Clothes can shrink in the washer too, if you use warm or hot water.

This is a great motivation video to help clean my bedroom. I’ve decluttered my books I’ve had for years from school and the notes I took along with other books to read. I’ve also been going through my clothes. I’ve been storing the concert shirts and other clothes in the vacuum bags.
I’ve tried vacuum bags & they never work for me.
My mom never wanted to do anything twice. She made a place for everything and put it back when she was done, including clean laundry. I always fold right out of the dryer and put it away. This keeps the clothes from wrinkling and reduces any ironing. And it saves the step of having to put the laundry somewhere in the interim and then pick it up again. It’s basically all about not expending extra energy where I don’t have to. And clutter piles up less which is great for sanity. 😊

5:08 psych major here who loves watching cleaning videos! 😌 OCD stands for obsessive compulsive disorder. “Excessive thoughts (obsessions) that lead to repetitive behaviors (compulsions).
Obsessive-compulsive disorder is characterized by unreasonable thoughts and fears (obsessions) that lead to compulsive behaviors.” so unless those behaviors you are experiencing are interfering with your daily life (inability to attend work, school, or social activities & maintain relationships) then I’d say what you’re experiencing is very normal. My mom is just like you! When it comes to OCD, you may notice you have constant anxiety & mental distress due to said obsessions & compulsions, which actually ruin your normal behavior & functioning. 😊 anyways, i love your videos, i hope you find a better laundry routine for yourself & take back your self control (less procrastination). I struggle with laundry as well… take me 2-3 days to get everything washed & a week to get all the clothes folded & hung. EXTREMELY GUILTY OF PROCRASTINATION 😅
I know what OCD is & I don’t use the term lightly. I’d think that sharing that I cannot just put things in the messy drawer without having intrusive thoughts about it all day long would indicate to you that I’m not misusing the term. 🫠

This was a much needed video. Thank you so much! I needed to clean my guest bedroom. I tend to pile things in there and shove things in the dresser drawers. I put this video on in there and started decluttering. It feels so good now. 🥰🥰

Yeah I can’t handle the thought of cleaning rags or towels mixed in with my clothes 🤮 I also separate the cleaning rags from the shower towels
I sort my laundry the way my mother did it. When I was small, all we had was a wringer washer ( I’m 74) so it was whites in the cleanest, hottest water, light colored, dark colored, towels, bedding . Rags or anything else was last. Oh, and yes I did get my skinny little arm caught in the wringer but I wasn’t hurt.

Girl you are not alone with fixing the drawers when putting stuff away. Every time I open a drawer to put something away...if it's messy I have to fix it first. My husband is bad about unfolding a shirt and then picking a completely different one. He just throws the other one back in. Same with my kids. I do the no fold method with their jammies because well I'm tired of folding and refolding. Lol. Who cares if their jammies are wrinkled? 🤷♀️ but you are not alone. I am exactly the same way. This is making me want to clean out my closet. I can't comfortably step in it and grab what I need. I lean over things to get to what's inside. 🤦♀️ thank you for this video. @@lovinglifeasmegan so for my kid's jammies I literally just toss them in the drawer. Sloppy and unfolded. Saves me a lot of refolding. I use the same method for my tank tops and shorts that aren't jeans.

Great motivation! I used to sort laundry but I just don’t have the time anymore. So I put it all in together. I’ll use a color catcher in my washer sometimes.
I’ve never even heard of a color catcher 😅 apparently I’m failing at adulting because I’ve seen a quite a few comments referencing one

Suggestion on dealing with the junk mail: I solved it years ago. When you check out at any store using a debit or credit card and are asked to give your phone number or your zip code, just say no! IT in the receipt software connects that information when a checker adds it. I get 6 pieces of mail a month now, only the actual bills for utilities and one magazine subscription. It took several years to stop the massive ad campaigns, but is so worth it!
I do that already 😅 I get the most random mail from places like auto or home insurance agencies, or window replacement…nothing that I’ve ever given my number or address to

Lol it is amazing what us "Adults" talk about or what excite us lol. As for laundry sorting we used to sort it like you do. But I hang majority of my shirts so we sort it like dryer, hang, whites and towels. 😊

Towels, sheets, blankets &clothes. I never mix those. I do wash each of my kids clothes separately cuz its easier to fold & put away into their baskets.
My kids do their own laundry so their clothes are also separated 🤗

Megan, loved your video. Typically when hanging things with wire like that, the wire should be pulled taut. The looseness of the wire is the reason the mirror angles out. Also, the brackets are typically lower on the frame in order to distribute the weight. So, you could keep the top lip sitting on the current monkey hook, but also pull the wire taut and add a second monkey hook lower down. This would further distribute the weight, making for a stronger hold. Hope that makes sense and I'd love to hear if you try this and if it works!
Oh, and I saw someone else recommended command strips. I think that's a good idea in addition to the method I just recommended.
The edge of the mirror isn’t thick enough for command strips. We haven’t had any issues with how I hung it so far!

I hold a picture with wire like that because I was having the same problem you were having.It has been up for about six months and doing fine .There are no doors on that wall and it doesn't get bumped at all.I do darks together,then lights together and a I do my cleaning rags together.I have teen boys so my whites are usually done in hot or warm water .Thank you for sharing with us 🤗❤️.

Megan I love the village on your dresser in your bedroom!! Do you remember where you purchased the set? Also the way you sort laundry is absolutely correct. I watch so many youtubers throw everything in together and I could literally lose my mind and want to scream, NOOO that's so WRONG!!! 🙃

I hung a rod near my dryer and the things that get hung up I hang right out of the dryer, and stand there and fold what needs folding. It was a game changer for me. I also set a timer on my phone for when the dryer will be done so I don’t have to continuously fluff loads that I let sit
Our dryer alerts us when it’s done and I have a folding table, just not the discipline or consistency to keep up with it 😅
This is what I do. I do not iron and never had the luxury of refrying wrinkled clothes and I do not like wrinkled clothing so I hand and fold out of the dryer.

You did a great job wuth your bed room. I used to sort my laundry but now I've changed a little bit I will wash all my darks together but when it comes to towels and socks they go together and they do not get fabric softener because if you put fabric softener in with your towels your towels will not absorb water in your socks will not absorb your sweaty feet, now sheets and wights go together. Used to wash my husband's Dirty Work uniforms separately but now I just wash them with all his dark jeans he doesn't notice lol. God bless you and your family.🙇♀️💖🎄☃️🤗🤗

We wash sheets weekly. The duvet and blankets not as often. I hate making the bed too. Especially when I have to wrestle the mattress cover back on. I like to fold my laundry and organize it too. It looks nicer. As a teen I use to fold it and just not put it away. Now my husband washes and I fold and put it away weekly (apartment living). I sort it like you too! 😂
I don’t wash the blankets as often, but I do the duvet cover every time I do the sheets
I just love how you organize, i never ever find your videos boring at all! And omg i do that with my laundry i have to sort them out my mom thought me that way lol and well i have OCD so is like a must for me 🤣

We have wires hanging up most of our decor and it works well, we haven’t hung heavy mirrors lately but I’m sure we will. As far as laundry we sort ours too.
I ended up using a wire for this mirror & it has worked out well so far 🤗
I’ve been cleaning my closet with you and it looks better that it was before and I wouldn’t have have the motivation to actually almost finish while the video was playing plus my mom makes my separate the clothing like you do 😭 but I still think that’s the right way but it takes such a long time but thanks for the video

It does make a huge difference! The room definitely feels brighter & therefore bigger with the mirror reflecting the light from the window
I use different detergents for different things so I only put stuff that I want to wash with fragrance free detergent in the fragrance free hamper and so on. I just feel like it saves time to not mix the stuff up to begin with. I also fold and put away everything right from the dryer because if I don't and put it in a basket it will live in that basket forever and I'll shove the basket somewhere to get it out of the way and wonder where so many of my clothes or towels went. lol
I wish we had room to have separated bins like that! It would make things a lot easier for me lol
We wash the bedding weekly but I don’t use the duvet .. we roll it down and use what’s under ( an old comforter 😂 that I can rewash till it falls apart . I need to organize so bad .. I’ve outgrown my house. I’m handbags alone I could fill a room !

I use Shout brand Color Catchers in my laundry so that colors don’t run. They are my most favorite product of all time!! Your bedroom looks great!!! My bedroom is the catch-all for everything too. Yes, I separate laundry just as you do. My OCD would not allow me to just throw everything together!!! I don't want whites with darks and towels with my clothes.

I am always re- arranging my drawers when i put things away. Also, my idea of sorting laundry is clothes vs towels/ blankets we dont sort the clothes though it all just goes in together! I know my mom sorted but i never have. Its so convient that way, but if sorting your clothes is the way you like it then absolutely do what works for you and what you like. This is another reason why I think I might have OCD, it would cause me so much anxiety to add blankets into the wash with clothes. 🫠 but you’re right, everyone does what works for them & there’s no real right or wrong way 🤗

I got rid of Duvet covers! I stick with a simple comforter
Duvet covers are a lot easier for me to wash & store when not in use 🤗
Omgeee!!! Laundry must be sorted, and bath towels washed with only bath towels, same with kitchen towels. And all laundry must be folded and put away immediately!

I don’t know if there is a right way to do the duvet cover lol. I used to try the sushi roll method, but it never worked well for me. Derek literally climbs inside the cover to tie all the corners 🤣

This is what I SAS doing today not closet cleaning but bedroom organization and laundry and one I am the same way with laundry I procrastinate to always put my c!othes away but its bc I don't have enough room for my clothes and my drawer is so small and I leave them in my bucket too 😅
Have you tried decluttering a little to make more room in your drawers? Or maybe hanging up all tops & only using drawers for pants and intimidates? That’s what I do 🤗
@@lovinglifeasmegan girl, you already read my mind bc I only hang up my shirts that I wear in a day to day basis and my pj shirts and then dressy pants and dresses I tried Kon Marie method folding didn’t fit as planned so I got my own way with it 🤣

I'm my own worse enemy. I was a lot worse i couldn't sit still I hardly slept I used to clean through the night grab a couple of hours

Great video! Tip for the mirror.. the wire is pretty secure, but maybe add some picture frame command strips to keep it flush to the wall. Also with laundry, I have OCD and I get made fun of (not in a mean way) because I sort my laundry like that but I fold the dirty laundry so it doesn’t take up as much space. I am loving the room transformation, so peaceful

Hey Megan….great transformation with the closet! When my kids were younger, I def got side tracked putting laundry away…have to refold, straighten up the drawers etc. it’s probably obsessive but who cares 🤪 I separate whites and darks for sure. It amazes me how many people on you tube do not…like hardly anyone🤷♀️
I usually skip through laundry & dishes in most cleaning videos for that very reason lol
After grabbing a couple of hours I would get up and get to work for 530am then when I finished work come home make a coffee and if the grass needed cutting I'd do that. pre dinner and then clean. I'm on medications for ocd I've calmed right down now lol xx

I learned if you flip the douve cover inside out and put it on top of the blanket then flip it outside in, it cuts down a majority of the time and makes it easier.
I’ve tried showing Derek a few different methods but he hasn’t liked any of them, so I just leave him to do it the way he prefers lol

I sort my laundry. Lights, darks, red items that are newer until I can throw them in with the darks. Towels, bedding. I always use a color catcher with colors just in case.
What is a color catcher? 😳
I also use color catcher sheets they are amazing. You can get them at any supermarket- it prevents colored (especially new 1st wash clothing ) staining other items although I admit I do separate my darks from my lights ❤
Yes, they catch the colors that bleed off newer clothing. You can buy an off brand at Walmart called color grabbers. They work just as well.

My best friend and I are like that too. I sort she doesn’t - it’s just personal preference I feel! But the big difference is I bleach my white, towels & bedding and she doesn’t use bleach at all!

I use a rolling divided hamper. So when we put dirty clothes in they are already sorted. I too sort whites, lights, colors, and darks. I also have a hanging laundry bag in my bathroom for dirty towels/wash rags. I’m kinda OCD about laundry. Lol

I see some people throwing towels in with regular clothes in some videos and it always makes me cringe lol. I usually just skip through laundry clips & loading the dishwasher when I watch RUclips videos 😅
While I see the benefit of sorting laundry before washing, I have found that it is more beneficial for my mental health to always have laundry done and put away. The way I have found works best for me to do that is 1 load of laundry every day from start to finish. It's way less overwhelming that way because it doesn't pile up in baskets waiting to be folded for weeks (which is my current status because we've all been sick and I'm off my routine lol!!) Because I'm usually doing 1 load a day, it isn't practical to sort it since there isn't enough of 1 category of clothing for a full load. :)
I know a lot of people who do 1 load a day 🤗 it totally works to keep the mountain away!

I always sort because I have had soooo many things ruined from a stray dark sock that made its way in… it like stains the clothes it was touching! Doesn’t happen all the time but definitely happened sooooo many times when my oldest kids were little I lost a whole lot of their clothes in a horrible jeans incident 🤦♀️
But with lots of kids you have enough loads to sort easy!

We don’t have enough laundry to sort that specifically, but I totally would if I could!
@@lovinglifeasmegan when my three oldest girls were little I remember I had like two full pink loads 😂 we have 5 kids now so easy enough for me to keep sorting lol if I am on top of it enough I will run a smaller load instead of waiting but that’s hardly the case more like I get to burnt out on laundry and take laundry holidays after full days of load after load 🤣 I try for a load a day though
I sort my laundry, sperste light vs dark, top vs bottom.
I’ve never separated top vs bottom but I could totally see why you would 😊

I am not too sure iff you have OCD. My neighbour has OCD and she cleans and tidies as she goes. She will not allow anything to be out of place for a minute. If she accidentally misses something she then has to clean the room completely 😮 from top to bottom x
OCD manifests in different ways for different people. I definitely have intrusive thoughts, which is a symptom of both OCD & anxiety. For example, if I put all of my laundry in the wash together, or didn’t tidy the drawers while putting clothes away, I wouldn’t be able to stop thinking about that until I went back & fixed it. It’s intrusive thoughts & ritualistic solutions.

I agree. Im OCD and i cant allow any room to get this bad. I tidy up daily for my own mental health.
I separate my laundry by color and also the towels go separate the sheets go separate and then the clothes by color
I do towels & sheets separate too 🤗

Maybe too late but the hanging wire should be nearly straight across with only a small amount of slack - that will stop the top of the mirror from pitching forward off the wall.

It always blows my mind when someone says they don’t separate it that way 😅
Honestly, sorting my laundry just depends. I used to sort it regardless until my husband washed clothes one day & I went to fold them and saw it all mixed. Now it doesn't bother me at all if it's not sorted. Lol. However, if I have enough clothes to make a full load for each category (which is mostly the case), I sort it. If they're smaller loads, I will mix my whites and lights & then the next time whites need done, ill wash them alone to keep them bright and white. Towels and bedding always gets sorted. They dont get washed together and the definitely dont get washed with my clothes. I don't want the lint from either sticking to my clothes and & causing chaos because I can't just fold and put away clothes that have lint all over them. I'll either lint roll each piece of clothing or try another cycle in the dryer. But both is a huge waste of time.
Also, washing the clothes and putting them away is easy for me. I also sort my drawers every time I put laundry away. But the folding! That's what I can't stand. 😂 I don't know why but it just feels so daunting to me.
I started doing smaller loads & now folding doesn’t feel so overwhelming. Maybe try that 🤗
