We homeschool year-round even though we have short summers and long winters here in Maine because we like to do a lot of our science units/nature study stuff in the summer when we can go on good field trips, and we also count our gardening as science!! I love getting an early start and counting some summer days towards our required 175 homeschool days. It helps us stay relaxed throughout the whole year, and not have to stick to a 4-5 day school week Sept-May. We also do reading (our library's summer reading program) in the summer, catch up on left over curriculum in a really relaxed way (like 15 minutes on rainy or boiling hot days), and I have been making busy books that contain a little memory work and fun stuff for each subject, or things that need to be reinforced, which I put in plastic sleeves and give my son dry erase markers.
I love this! Great ideas! We don’t have to count or track school days/hours or else we would probably do the same thing! And after thinking about it we *technically* homeschool year round too - we still do morning basket through the summer & nature studies. We just take a break from traditional sit down curriculum work. But as you know, us homeschoolers are ALWAYS learning! ❤️
Our summers are short here in Canada 🇨🇦 too!! We take a break during the summer with core curriculum. Just alot of nature studies and some review! Loved hearing your plans ❤
I totally hear you with having to soak up the Summer months!!
Yep! Same for New York 🥶 gotta enjoy these hot months while we have them!
