A larger, durable, audio playback-supporting version of this would be amazing. I'd have all I need in my day to day: texts, calls, music & audiobooks and survival. I'd use this as a work phone or home for a private number and know that I could leave the smart one behind and still survive not just the night, but potentially - thanks to that ultra power friendly eInk display - days or weeks. I could take it on holiday or camping. Give it some premium antennas and internal tools for good reception (and some emergency stuff!) And you're on the money.
I was actually really impressed by the e-ink display. Looks like they put a lot of work in improving the technology and designing the phones OS to take advantage of it. It would be kind of cool to have a fully fledged smart phone that used e-ink and with some cleaver software design it you could do almost everything you do in an OLED on a high quality e-ink (except for watch video and play games but in theory everything else could work). The phone could auto refresh the screen when ever it receives a text with the message app open. And refresh the screen a few times a second while you do a swiping motion to scroll through webpages/app interfaces. And then you’d have a mostly functional smartphone that only needs to be charged once every 2 weeks. (E-inks only draw current when the refresh and it’s a tiny amount of current) It wouldn’t be nearly as elegant as an LCD/OLED obviously but it’d be a great thing to have incase your main phone died while out in town or camping or something like that. I wouldn’t even pay $300 for this massively improved version though, MAYBE $150 and that’s because I’m in the very niche market of needing a smartphone that has multiple days of battery life(for camping/not having to worry about charging up before a hike)

I actually quite like the idea of the phone, but I am amazed that they did not think, we could make this smartphone sized and incorporate e-book reader technology into it (with a partner deal with someone who sells e-books) so as well as having a basic phone with some music, you also get a e-book reader.

I remember when my grandma was first interested to a basic flip phone and was absolutely lost as to how to operate it… this would have been ideal for her.
I only now heard about the Light Phone and while it is really interesting as a concept, the lack of USB-C and other little things like the lack of a camera and shaky vibration motor are a turn off. I do appreciate that they're a start up and I hope the Light Phone 3 will fill a lot of the gaps without increasing the price

I think it should still have a true B&W camera, some business solutions like email, and a 2500mAh battery that lasts a week to a month. @@todo870 they do actually, do your research... the flash is not light actually, since it’s an a-ink display. it’s the type you would see on an older kindle or nook, or still some they still make... but those devices are designed not to hurt your eyes at all.
I remember when my grandma was first interested to a basic flip phone and was absolutely lost as to how to operate it… this would have been ideal for her.

I only now heard about the Light Phone and while it is really interesting as a concept, the lack of USB-C and other little things like the lack of a camera and shaky vibration motor are a turn off. I do appreciate that they're a start up and I hope the Light Phone 3 will fill a lot of the gaps without increasing the price

I think it should still have a true B&W camera, some business solutions like email, and a 2500mAh battery that lasts a week to a month. I could then recommend it to my stepmother who only uses her phone for texts and calls. But she claims an iPhone is too complicated, and her Samsung is always dead from all the background processes.

I have a Nokia feature phone and if you’re only gonna use it for texts and calls then it’s a great phone
The only problem is that it’s kinda annoying to type on it, but there’s a dictionary mode which should make typing easier and faster
Also you rarely have to charge it and it’s indestructible

My parents would love this as it has podcast, music, e ink screen and smart phone structured text messaging formats, however, it is way too tiny and although they don't care for internet, they'd still love to take photos.
