Honestly, it could def do with a smaller bezel too, I'm not asking for much but 300 dollars for something that would typically be less than a third of that is an outright scam
What a heap of shit. I was laughing at first, but now I'm genuinely angry that someone had this useless piece of junk produced at a large scale. Its a good phone for its intentions. If you want to work without distractions, waking up without social media or going for a shit that doesnt last 20 mins, than its the perfect phone.
I was actually really impressed by the e-ink display. Looks like they put a lot of work in improving the technology and designing the phones OS to take advantage of it. It would be kind of cool to have a fully fledged smart phone that used e-ink and with some cleaver software design it you could do almost everything you do in an OLED on a high quality e-ink (except for watch video and play games but in theory everything else could work). The phone could auto refresh the screen when ever it receives a text with the message app open. And refresh the screen a few times a second while you do a swiping motion to scroll through webpages/app interfaces. And then you’d have a mostly functional smartphone that only needs to be charged once every 2 weeks. (E-inks only draw current when the refresh and it’s a tiny amount of current) It wouldn’t be nearly as elegant as an LCD/OLED obviously but it’d be a great thing to have incase your main phone died while out in town or camping or something like that. I wouldn’t even pay $300 for this massively improved version though, MAYBE $150 and that’s because I’m in the very niche market of needing a smartphone that has multiple days of battery life(for camping/not having to worry about charging up before a hike)

the company has said that it is due to competition and their state as a company. being a small company in the tech industry, competition is definitely intense. light cannot price the phone lower than $350 unless they: are a large company, are earning massive revenue, are a known brand, or are bold enough to underpay and overwork their manufacturing team/crew/employees, etc. definitely, $350 is definitely expensive to our expense, but that is because of the competition. giant companies can just mass produce to their liking since they already have the resources, they are a known brand, etc. this phone is crowdfunded just so this can be manufactured, which says a lot about enthusiast/niche/independent brands. playing devil's advocate, the phone has great design ngl. even the software experience (knowing you don't text a lot/don't care about typos) is otherwise great, which is unlike most feature phones. and i definitely agree with most people, this must be priced at a lower cost. but knowing the tech-economic climate... it might just be wishful thinking.
@@bsbx how do they expect to become bigger company if they offer less for more than others? Why would anyone buy that? I know such devices may be desired by some people but for that price they should offer better build quality, vibrations, more storage, smaller screen frames, etc.
@@Mintor94 exactly. i would buy this in a heartbeat if it wasn't for stuff like you mentioned. but again, the light phone is a niche product. (but it is not an excuse! ha!) i wouldn't expect it to boom in markets or stuff, but who knows? (the fact that this gets into the hands of youtubers surprise me.) but i definitely understand why a lot of people are not in favor of buying this product. i follow the company on instagram, accompanying with the company tagged by customers in their "goodbye social media posts/stories". judging by their photos/profile, i think this phone is ABSOLUTELY perfect for them. but i think it is just a marginal few. but again, i wish it were better. knowing this is a crowdfunded project, it's flight is unpredictable. we're definitely in need of something else. for now let's see where this thing goes. if they are able to supply a more quality product in the next iteration, maybe that's a win? i don't know exactly.
I think it should still have a true B&W camera, some business solutions like email, and a 2500mAh battery that lasts a week to a month. I could then recommend it to my stepmother who only uses her phone for texts and calls. But she claims an iPhone is too complicated, and her Samsung is always dead from all the background processes.
@@lusathegreat6300 or a feature phone I have a Nokia feature phone and if you’re only gonna use it for texts and calls then it’s a great phone The only problem is that it’s kinda annoying to type on it, but there’s a dictionary mode which should make typing easier and faster Also you rarely have to charge it and it’s indestructible

This might have a market if it were priced at about $50 or $75. Keep one in the glove box and other places in case of emergency. Even put one in a hedge or behind a bench half way along your jogging route in case you are robbed or something. Maybe there are other examples of better products that do the same thing for cheaper.
Rest in pieces Light phone, you held up pretty dam well to tests that the average consumer wouldn't do to their phone, unless they were making a youtube video. I actually quite like the idea of the phone, but I am amazed that they did not think, we could make this smartphone sized and incorporate e-book reader technology into it (with a partner deal with someone who sells e-books) so as well as having a basic phone with some music, you also get a e-book reader.
I like the concept, but for this price i would expect an aluminum body, a edge to edge e ink display and some kind of durability. And still, i think 200 bucks would be plenty.
And more and/or expandable storage... I get that the whole point of this phone is to be minimalist, but come on, listening to music isn't exactly that distracting of a task and it already supports it, so I'd want to be able to store more than like 3 songs on it.1 gig of space for music that you can't even expand in a $300 phone is a total ripoff.

the company has said that it is due to competition and their state as a company. being a small company in the tech industry, competition is definitely intense. light cannot price the phone lower than $350 unless they: are a large company, are earning massive revenue, are a known brand, or are bold enough to underpay and overwork their manufacturing team/crew/employees, etc.
definitely, $350 is definitely expensive to our expense, but that is because of the competition. giant companies can just mass produce to their liking since they already have the resources, they are a known brand, etc. this phone is crowdfunded just so this can be manufactured, which says a lot about enthusiast/niche/independent brands.
playing devil's advocate, the phone has great design ngl. even the software experience (knowing you don't text a lot/don't care about typos) is otherwise great, which is unlike most feature phones. and i definitely agree with most people, this must be priced at a lower cost. but knowing the tech-economic climate... it might just be wishful thinking.
I commented something similar. Not on purpose though
The idea of this phone is stupid IMO. You could buy a flip phone for $50 with more features and the same level of adictivity.
What about a flip phone,
@@lusathegreat6300 or a feature phone
I have a Nokia feature phone and if you’re only gonna use it for texts and calls then it’s a great phone
The only problem is that it’s kinda annoying to type on it, but there’s a dictionary mode which should make typing easier and faster
Also you rarely have to charge it and it’s indestructible
She’s stupid AF to think iPhone is complicated, especially when she already uses android which is already even more complicated. Apple is known for its’ simplicity. wtf.

I agree. It also reminded me of the hold music that you hear when calling certain phone numbers in Grand Theft Auto V.
Its even less value for money than Apple.
Thats an achievement.

This phone has a big following.

No one:
This Manufacturer's Slogan: "A phone for human".
😆😆
Plot twist : " the manufacturer is tim cook's son"
It reminds of S3 where Samsung used the slogan “DESIGNED FOR HUMANS”
I doubted a normal human will buy $300 phone with $30 worth of feature.
I think this phone drew inspiration from apple in terms of the price.
"a refresh rate of whenever I feel like it" 😂
300 bucks for something like this is a rip-off. Just don't use your phone, practice some willpower.
or just buy a regular featurephone for like 20 bucks from Wallmart.
@@iwantsexseemyvideo2053 Stop spamming and get outta your parent's basement.
You can literally buy an actual smartphone for $110 (Galaxy A01)
@@maxen3907 actually it is 60 dollars
Or use a cheap key pad phone
I like the concept, but for this price i would expect an aluminum body, a edge to edge e ink display and some kind of durability.
And still, i think 200 bucks would be plenty.
Agree and some elaborate support and even optional backlight for nighttime reading
50 eu max
And more and/or expandable storage... I get that the whole point of this phone is to be minimalist, but come on, listening to music isn't exactly that distracting of a task and it already supports it, so I'd want to be able to store more than like 3 songs on it.1 gig of space for music that you can't even expand in a $300 phone is a total ripoff.
$200 can get you a decent smartphone.
This crap is not even worth $80.
