With the voices JMS was looking more for the actors to have essence of characters in the voice not having to sound exactly like them as a tribute which I can respect it. Yes it can sound off putting but credit those actors who filled in for those who have passed but not forgotten.
In the behind the scenes video he was clearly seeing any continuation as (at least in part) a tribute to his friends. He said that he asked all of the other actors before proceeding if they'd be comfortable doing more without the others. Yeah, G'kar sounded a bit odd, however the more I watch it the more he's grown on me. He has a theatricality and a calmness that feels right. He only had a few scenes. I think if you give the new cast members time to grow into their roles there will be a greater acceptance from fans.

Good review! I'll check it out. Level of detail has no bearing on beauty, BTW. 😮 Detail is detail; beauty is beauty. They aren't related terms. If I may, I think what you're saying is "the imagery was beautiful and had the added bonus of today's complex math to support it." It's a common misunderstanding, but complex math does not equal beautiful imagery (ie, Jurassic Park still looks great today, and it's 31 years old). Much as I enjoyed the movie, and I did. It’s not perfect, there’s some issues. They redesigned the Narn and made G’kar look really odd with the neon green thing that I’m going to call a scarf. They redesigned the Shadow ships, and they look not mysterious like they should, but comical like the offspring of Hal 9000 and a hentai tentacle monster. The Mira Furlan sound alike did a very good job, some slips, but she got back into the so voice quickly I can forgive it. What I am having trouble forgiving is when Sheridan visits Z’ha dum and has the chance to save the Icarus crew, and delay the shadow war there’s no mention of Anna Sheridan whatsoever. That was her ship and the expedition she died on, and he completely forgets that fact? Even when Anna speaks to him directly, he doesn’t immediately say her name and she doesn’t recognise his voice at all. What gives JMS?
I didn't like how the Shadows were portrayed. They were shown more like the Starship Trooper bugs than the B5 Shadows, which use lesser species to do the grunt work.
Good review However, one thing that they kind of got wrong in the script, but I'm gonna to Let it go, because it's been so long, Sheridan said in the movie that he took command in 2258 when in the show he took command in 2259 That's the only problem I actually have with the film. And just for the record, I like All the movies including the lost tales Small fun fact about me for many years now, I've been going to sleep listening to the sound of rain coming from my laptop speakers because of that Conversation that Sheridan had with Dylan about his father using the guard hose on the roof of their house.
I always thought that was a shortcoming of the sets not having enough room to extend them any further. The Station is so huge we shouldn't be able to see that degree of curvature. Otherwise the station would only be as round or large as a football field.
I liked the updated White Star- it properly shows the scale of it with all the windows on it. The fins at the aft of it looked kinda wrong to me though
I enjoyed it and it felt like Babylon 5. As for the voice actor playing G'Kar, I felt he lacked the gravitas in his voice to make the dialogue feel like it was being said by G'Kar. The ending is clearly aimed at an alt-universe reboot, and I hope it happens.
AI can generate voice, visuals, and writing these days, why even involve real people at all? Just have algorithmically generated series devoid of any soul. What better way to show your love and appreciation for the original actors than by mimicry through a soulless machine? Advocating for AI voices over actual talent, whether classic or new, shows that you don't actually care about the performance, only whether it measures up to rose-colored nostalgia.
The movie was pretty good, though there were few things I didn't like. While the animation overall was great, facial animation of the characters was a little bit wooden. And some of the characters didn't really look like their live action versions. And I agree that the voice overs that were not always right. Also, I was hoping to see some characters I really liked: Zack, Talia, Vir, Draal, Bester, Kosh. A little more Marcus would also be great. But overall it was a huge joy to watch this movie. This franchise has seemed dead and buried for 15 years, and now finally it's back, and what a comeback! Also, I think, these alternative universe shinanigans are a tool to "canonize" the upcoming reboot. It was interesting that Delenn is present in a world without the Shadow War. It means, that for some reason Sinclair would still have to become a Minbari and travel to the past to become her ancestor. Maybe, in this version the Shadow War would just start a little bit later.
Generally gotta disagree with you on this one, I found to to be middling and best and representative of some of JMS's most critiqued qualities as a writer and the worst qualities of the universe hopping variety. Biggest upset for me was the redesigned shadow vessel, the sound mixing for the voice recordings, and missing characters from recreated shots (ie the bridge module lookout as the new crew says taa taa to Sheridan and delenn). Missed opportunity by not having Jason Carter voice his few lines or simply adding his original audio in, and Maggie voice ISN reporter or using her audio from the show. Ill be supporting buying this despite all of my issues, as I feel the crew need the kudos, but I'm concerned about the future of B5 as a reboot/reimagining. Thanks for the video review and keeping interest in B5 going.
It filled in the blanks of much of the series. It brought back so many memories of B5. When I thought back to those actors we lost, I cried. The characters on the bridge, I noticed the woke placement of the narrative ethnic pan out of John's departing B5, this was not in the original series. This layout was disappointing, but understandable. Overall, the movie was great.
I'm not a big fan of animations but I loved this. There are probably legal issues with using AI to replicate an actors voice or likeness without their consent or the consent of the family.
Is Sheridan still married at the end? I dont like that the Icarus is blamed as the main catalyst for the shadow war. I feel that it really would have happened regardless.
the only character that survived the destruction of earth was Ivonova because she is a russian death goddess! (the episode with the omega x destroyers is when she shows her scary goddess side lol) and she woukd have wanted revenge on the vorlons for killing her faithful lol
Was the G'kar representation some type of first one or a cosmic being representing him? I first thought it might be Lorien but nope. Also I wanted to see an alternate Kosh so I was a little disappointed. I give this a 7/10 for a true die hard B5 fan since season 2 season finale on syndicated tv wayyyy before the TNT stuff. Also not sure I am down with the new asthetic on the Shadows but I am old school fan so I can look over it.
The Road Home Shadows are a horde mode foe. I don't really get the impression that they could fold your mind in half. It's a "show too much" kind of thing. For a baddy called "The Shadows" you don't want a full daylight shot of a hundred of them shooting lasers. These guys were an imminently killable mob, not creatures of nightmare and legend. Space wise, I kinda miss the, as we called it, "The Purple Shadow F U Beam". I can get over the visual aspects easier than I can the storytelling and characterization stuff. That's where it really jarred me. Honestly, if they want to retell the story, just do that. "We're retelling the story with new tools and new takes on these characters." I don't need some mutliverse brand garbage and bad pop-physics bs to justify that. Just say "we're gonna start over". Better yet, do something new and different in the same sort of setting. You have less baggage that way...but it does require more creativity and risk (and there's history that it might not work in this property).
@@argentaegis Yeah to be honest it made me feel icky also. I give it a 7/10 and that is being a little generous, it is literally a "shadow" of the story telling of the old B5. It was nothing like seeing that Shadow ship at the end of season 2 on a syndicated network carving up the Narn cruisers and station.
This was really one for the long-time Babylon 5 die-hards! Check out my review: Definitely one for the long-time fans. Check out my review: ruclips.net/video/7eEKolQgAq8/видео.htmlsi=10gKmxndOt0dFCMs
"We never got to see engineering on B5." That is because it is a space station. Ships have centralised engineering sections to ensure the engines keep running. B5 has stabilising thrusters only. You also mention that we don't get to see the power core in the main series but that is incorrect. It is a fusion reactor open to vacuum - we saw characters in space suits interact with both the B5 and B4 power cores.
Despite the history error, DS9 v B5 (as Bergman had the B5 script for a year and Paramount settled out of court with JMS), raging on the special effects for B5, yeah OK they are dated, but at the time they showed you didn't need millions to tell the story. As far as the rest of the movies, fans of B5 turnout for the writing and the stories, the implementation and or interference by suits changed the perspective of those stories. The Road Home has certain little kernels in it that would show some of the foundations of a cold reboot, which I am glad to say, in spite of the strikes, is still on the books, but I am not holding my breath. The film its self, some nice and reflective parts, echos of the chemistry of the main cast, nuggets of nostalgia so to speak, again using the science to tell a story and again edited down, but I am thankful it is out as they are testing the waters for another B5.
They could of matched the voices better. There’s enough talent out there to pull it off but i’m sure that it was not the cost effective way to go. Otherwise it was very satisfying and much better than some of the old B5 movies.
Was this a movie released in the cinema or thru a streaming service? I've seen no promos for it at all. Or maybe there is another release date for United States? I'm anxious to see it as I loved the TV series
I really loved the movie, I disagree on the point of using AI to bring back the dead, the new actors did a great job and leave the deceased in peace. The bit at the end Jakar (I don't know how to spell his name, never seen it printed anywhere) was irritating Londo, as he always did, was spot on.
Going to have to disagree on the use of AI even if it made G'Kar sound perfect. The use of AI would have drawn this movie into a dark hole of the actor and writer strike. Also think it is F up in general to use a actor likeness or voice without their permission. Why pay people at all when you can get a AI to do it for free? Just download their voice and soul and you have a slave for eternity. No, the idea is gross to me. I'm actually a little surprised a movie reviewer would take your position.
You mispronounced his name...it's not "Zathras" - it's "Zathras" (lol). This show was enjoyable with good callbacks to the original series. A few nitpicks, but otherwise a good addition to the B5 lore
Welp I'm going against the grain here (based on some of the comments I see), and say this movie was garbage. Nostalgia barely kept me awake through the whole thing, and then to do one of those "the power of love" nonsense tropes just made me wonder why I wasted my time on this.
Great review. But I disagree with your suggestion to use AI to replicate the voices of actors who've passed. It would be a dishonor to their memory to necromancer them with AI. Also, AI is a hotly contested topic among the WGA and SAG. AI diminishes the talent of writers and actors. Personally, I find the attempt to replace human creative endeavors with AI to be completely grotesque.
I haven't seen it yet so I wont comment on the story or acting but while the backgrounds look fine to really good the character designs are god awful they are flat low detail, with little or no depth and shading and look more like first pass previs than a finished product
I would rather have a real voice actor whose voice doesn't sound quite the same as G'Kar, Delenn and others but nails the emotion and nuance of the scene over of some soulless AI bot being fed lines and sound clips to mimic a dead cast member of the original show. That would upset me if they did that. I would expect that of some disney made corporate trash but not something coming from JMS.
I really enjoyed this movie. It's sad so many of the original cast have passed on.

The voiceover actor who played G'kar wasn't a clone of Andreas Katsulas, but he had an awesome voice nonetheless.
@9:00 Wasn't there a brief shot of the inside of Yellow Sector in the War Without End, Part 1 episode?
1000000% agree with your take on the voice actors.
Good review However, one thing that they kind of got wrong in the script, but I'm gonna to Let it go, because it's been so long, Sheridan said in the movie that he took command in 2258 when in the show he took command in 2259
That's the only problem I actually have with the film. And just for the record, I like All the movies including the lost tales
Small fun fact about me for many years now, I've been going to sleep listening to the sound of rain coming from my laptop speakers because of that Conversation that Sheridan had with Dylan about his father using the guard hose on the roof of their house.
Same here. I even like Crusade and Legend..
@masterchiefburgess I like Crusade and legend of the Rangers as well.
3:00 HEY, that was to reflect that the station was circular, the corridor would loop around the station
I always thought that was a shortcoming of the sets not having enough room to extend them any further. The Station is so huge we shouldn't be able to see that degree of curvature. Otherwise the station would only be as round or large as a football field.
The animation style gives me strong Star Wars: Resistance vibes.
Yes I thought the same
I liked the updated White Star- it properly shows the scale of it with all the windows on it. The fins at the aft of it looked kinda wrong to me though
It's out, and I can't find it. I have ALL THE SHOW. I'd like to add this, too.
Sorry if this is a silly question, but where is it available from?
Do they have plans to make stargate animated movie exactly like Babylon 5 the road home?
I enjoyed it a lot, but I was a bit disappointed that only Zathras and Zathras were leads in it. I wanted to see Zathras.
🤣🤣
Having millions of Zathras should uber scare everyone.
The art was Amazing. If they reboot the series might as well do it full on animation
Advocating for AI voices over actual talent, whether classic or new, shows that you don't actually care about the performance, only whether it measures up to rose-colored nostalgia.
right on..
B5 pre order for the complete show on blu ray is out!!!!
comes out in Dec!!!!!
It was pretty darn good. I thought it was funnier than a lot of the show.
I like this style of animation better than lower decks or prodigy imo
Yeah it certainly has its own charm, more like comic book or graphic novel style.
Where can I watch this
I liked it, not crazy about having to pay for it, should have been on a streaming service but was great to see Babylon 5 again.
Ivanova didn’t really sound right to me, I was surprised it was actually Claudia.
Where was it released?
Where can I find this? Please comment
Really enjoyed it.
I haven't seen it. Thanks for the information. Good show.
Glad you enjoyed it
Was the G'kar representation some type of first one or a cosmic being representing him?
None of the services I found allow me to rent or buy it from my country. :( :( :(
This was really one for the long-time Babylon 5 die-hards! Check out my review: Definitely one for the long-time fans. Check out my review: ruclips.net/video/7eEKolQgAq8/видео.htmlsi=10gKmxndOt0dFCMs
It's out allready? How?

"We never got to see engineering on B5."
That is because it is a space station.
Not internally though which was my point.
It’s released on disc UHD 4K, bluray and dvd along with digital download. Try Amazon.
@@Sci-Finatics thank you. I've a subscription to Amazon Prime
Available to purchase as a download, I got mine from Apple TV cost $19.95 in Australia.
Bought it on Amazon for $19.95. Pre-ordered.
I really enjoyed this! No politics or messaging, just great story telling. Brought back memories of why I love this show and the world he created.
i've not watched it yet i'll be back!
I enjoyed the movie too
I loved it...
I really loved the movie, I disagree on the point of using AI to bring back the dead, the new actors did a great job and leave the deceased in peace. The bit at the end Jakar (I don't know how to spell his name, never seen it printed anywhere) was irritating Londo, as he always did, was spot on.
G'Kar 😀
@@masterchiefburgess Thanks
Going to have to disagree on the use of AI even if it made G'Kar sound perfect. The use of AI would have drawn this movie into a dark hole of the actor and writer strike. Also think it is F up in general to use a actor likeness or voice without their permission. Why pay people at all when you can get a AI to do it for free? Just download their voice and soul and you have a slave for eternity. No, the idea is gross to me.
I'm actually a little surprised a movie reviewer would take your position.
The writing was great for a video game.
outstanding
Seen it 4 times already
So, the vorlons got majoras mask😅
The movie was good - it did have the feeling of 'pilot' to it
A lot of 'tasters', but not much in the way of a story
You mispronounced his name...it's not "Zathras" - it's "Zathras" (lol). This show was enjoyable with good callbacks to the original series. A few nitpicks, but otherwise a good addition to the B5 lore
Welp I'm going against the grain here (based on some of the comments I see), and say this movie was garbage. Nostalgia barely kept me awake through the whole thing, and then to do one of those "the power of love" nonsense tropes just made me wonder why I wasted my time on this.
It was not a rivalry with DS9, it was theft. Paramount had JMS B5 plan and passed on it, but incorporated many of the elements into DS9.
True. They didn’t even change some of the characters names like Dukat and Lyta.
😊
It was OK nothing really happened if anything it was like a rehash episode like the shows in the 80s when they didn't have the budget.
Great review. But I disagree with your suggestion to use AI to replicate the voices of actors who've passed. It would be a dishonor to their memory to necromancer them with AI. Also, AI is a hotly contested topic among the WGA and SAG. AI diminishes the talent of writers and actors. Personally, I find the attempt to replace human creative endeavors with AI to be completely grotesque.
in the world where the shadow war never happened how is delenn alive because she's a offspring of Jeffery Sinclair
artificial intelligence: boo.
I haven't seen it yet so I wont comment on the story or acting but while the backgrounds look fine to really good the character designs are god awful they are flat low detail, with little or no depth and shading and look more like first pass previs than a finished product
Knowing now that Disney is using AI voices reinforces my position to never again patronize their products. ✌️
