I remember her clearly from that E.R tv show. She was so spunky and an excellent actress. This is so damn sad, what happened here, was she so damn alone that no one saw this happening to her???? Terrible.
I think she got black listed from the Show and the inner circle after she accused a male of sexual harassment. Then your sitting around counting down the months you can live on the money you have in the bank. Not a good state of mind. Makes it worse when you don't eat properly. She could've just got a job as a house cleaner or something. Cops didn't do anything wrong though...she clearly made the decision to end it via cop suicide.

Do a ride along with a cop for a week and you will see how hard it is and stressful in that kind of situation and people who do not comply well they die. Walking around the car or get back in their car and pull a gun. The cops have a really tough job. This is so horrifying and terribly sad. She must have been suffering so much, to end her life this way. The police officers truly wanted to assist her, and did not want to cause her any harm. I feel for her, and for the officers who were forced to take action when she brandished what appeared to be a real firearm. Me and my siblings have been suffering from bipolar and depression since we were kids, and been hospitalized throughout the years. It's really very rough at times, and i don't think many people really sympathize. I truly feel so so sad that this poor woman's life concluded this way.

If there's already a gun/weapon in hand, then taser etc won't necessarily cause the armed person to drop the weapon, hence the person could possibly (and at worst, maybe even fatally) start shooting/stabbing while getting tasered etc until police shoot fatal gunshot(s). Exactly. Where were her friends or family members? I know people with these type of mental illness shut themselves out from the outside world but I just wish someone cared more before the landlord got concerned. Very tragic.
The landlord literally got her killed but ok. She was a recluse, with obvious severe PTSD. Imagine bum rushing someone who’s standing on a ledge. She begged them to kill her bc them being there already was her worst nightmare, & getting pulled out of the only place she feels remotely safe by unempathetic officers to be taken to a hospital against her will & who knows how many strangers in her house (which is traumatic for anyone, but fatally traumatic in people with her issues). Friends & family will often go into a house like this & throw everything out, clean it “for” the person. It’s literally the most traumatic thing you can do, & basically GUARANTEES not only it going back to how bad it was, but WORSE typically. And the hospital stay? They’re not giving treatment someone like her needs. They have 72hrs to assess if she’s an immediate threat to herself or others. It’s a bandaid & usually adds more trauma without providing any real solutions for the person struggling.

Cops never seem to have any idea how to handle mental health victims and people suffering from addiction issues. This is why we need specialists out there specifically for these calls.

You havent been involved in this situation yourself. Speaking from experience being hospitalized 15 times for similar things seen here: It is ordered by DOCTORS for them to be detained. The police here were truly trying to save her life. She likely knew what she was doing as I've heard other mental health patients tell me their own attempts at suicide by scaring and threatening police in similar manner.

After 20 years of marriage My wife was diagnosed schizophrenic last year. Knowing what she goes through this was extremely hard to watch. I know cops have to look out for themselves but you would think in all the chaos they could distinguish a real gun from a BB gun sound. Doesn’t matter now. She got what she wanted. Watching someone refuse treatment for mental illness and whither away every day that goes by is the hardest thing I’ve ever had to deal with. It makes me angry and also sad because as much as you want to help the person in reality, unless they volunteer to help themselves there’s not a damn thing you can do about it. And so I continue to support her as best I can and pray that in her really bad days I don’t come home to a person who’s decided they needed to leave this world before their time.
Just wanted to say I am the daughter of a schizophrenic who's been homeless for over 15 years refusing medication and a mother with bipolar schizoaffective who is on medication but still has episodes here and there throughout the years. Grandparents took guardianship over me from 9 years old I am now 24. I feel your pain.
I had the same thought because I own a BB gun and it doesn't sound anything like a real gun. I've used a real gun in the past so it's very obvious the difference in the sounds that they make.
Yeah ok.. Theres c02 BB guns that make a pretty good sound when shot. And also .22 handguns almost sound like a BB gun when you shoot them. So no, its not that easy to notice a difference. That gun looked real AF

You can see the cop was very kind to Marquez even after she pulled out the “gun”. He was just acting in self defense and didn’t want to shoot and kill her. He really cared for her safety. Sad it had to end like that.

The most dangerous part of a cops job is a traffic stop you could look away for a second and be dead the next cops really do need to react and eliminate threats to themselves and others as quick as humanly possible.
These days family is literally nothing these days just a word family now is usually just a burden nothing more most people just can never be bothered with they’re families because they usually always cause them trouble and most families just argue and fight barely ever getting along it’s the norm now.
When the landlord calls them in to check on a person's welfare, that tells you she had no one, family, friends, gave up on her. If she got the help she needed, she definitely wouldn't have gone out like this
We do need better healthcare in this country, yes, but sometimes even the best help in the world leads nowhere. Mental illness is "contagious" and unfortunately, sometimes you have to save yourself.

This is tragic. She had clearly been morbidly depressed for a long time. The cops had to do it though. I think she knew if she came at them with a gun, they’d be forced to shoot, and that was the goal.
@@MyDokuChannel Kinda hard to react "smarter" when there's a 'gun' pointed at you. That being said, the "smarter" thing to do, (in hindsight or when you have time to actually think) would have been for the officer to grab a 'shield-like' object, anything thick or dense enough to deflect bullets. Worst case, they could have used tear gas to disarm her from a distance. Upon close inspection, you realized this isn't a "kill-or-be-killed" situation, but rather a "suicide-prevention" situation. If the cops weren't tricked by that bb-gun, they wouldn't have pulled their actual guns and unwittingly aided her in committing suicide. Again, the biggest issue here is that suicidal mentality, which was mistaken as a suicidal/homicidal mentality. The 1st step to solving any problem is to CORRECTLY identify the actual problem. Wrong problem, wrong reaction to that problem.

My father has been 5150 thrice now, won't take his meds for late onset bipolar (something blew in his brain after 60 and he goes through months of near catatonic depression followed by months of off the wall mania) I'm so glad he does not have a gun.

My Dad was a cop. One of his fellow police officers shot a woman who had a fake gun, pretty much exactly the same situation. He slowly but surely lost everything, he got a divorce, lost his kids, his house, his job... I don't know were he is now. He was a kind & gentle man, killing someone, even though it was in self-defense, broke him.

You try being a cop lmao. You try to accurately hit her leg before she can hit you. And the leg has a major artery which can easily kill. It’s not like the action movies where cops have aimbot and slow motion aiming. If that was a real gun and they missed everything would’ve went worse.
So sad for everyone involved. People that judge police actions so harshly don’t understand the danger officers put themselves in everyday. Despite the first policemen getting shot at he still tried. Those few seconds showed his compassion and bravery. I doubt most people would think of the shooter with compassion with bullets whizzing by.
it’s so sad when someone falls and nobody is around to lift them up out of the dark places their minds can take them to. I’ve been there and definitely was really considering doing something stupid, but luckily I have people who genuinely loved me and wanted me to live.

It's terrible. The thought of moving becomes so alien, it's like being held down under the weight of misery and everything that's normal like tidying, showering, engaging with people just starts to melt away. I'm glad you're doing better!
I’m there right now. Been bedridden for a year. But it’s not so simple as depression. In fact with me even tho I have severe ptsd brain injury & depression.. it’s my other physical ailments that keep me too weak to do anything. If I have a good day or a treatment that actually helps, I don’t have to do mental gymnastics, or stop being sad even. I can function instantly. I am my old self. Also not as simple as “getting help”. I need help, just not the kind being offered. I’ve spent 200k & every doctor says something different. I’m so very happy you got out of it. Know it can come back, so be vigilant & find healthy supportive people to surround yourself with. Pray for me lol.

I remember her clearly from that E.R tv show. She was so spunky and an excellent actress. This is so damn sad, what happened here, was she so damn alone that no one saw this happening to her???? Terrible.
I think she got black listed from the Show and the inner circle after she accused a male of sexual harassment. Then your sitting around counting down the months you can live on the money you have in the bank. Not a good state of mind. Makes it worse when you don't eat properly. Her final post 1:46 PM "there shooting cremate me pour ashes over Hollywood sign" (Police shot her 1:49 PM, after which she was then pronounced dead in hospital 2:36 PM. Subsequent medical examination found 2 gunshot wounds).
The police (and subsequently, paramedics and mental health professional) first arrived at the house a couple hours before the shooting, to do a wellness check on Vanessa...during which she suddenly pointed the real-looking gun at them, which then resulted police having really no other choice but to shoot, because to protect the unarmed paramedics and mental health professional (after Vanessa already ignored police's repeated demands to drop her gun, after which she then pointed at police downstairs).
The mental health professional and police were named as co-defendants in Vanessa Marquez's mother's lawsuit against City of South Pasadena for Vanessa's wrongful death, which was then dismissed due to police video footage and Vanessa's social media posts.

This is so horrifying and terribly sad. She must have been suffering so much, to end her life this way. The police officers truly wanted to assist her, and did not want to cause her any harm. I feel for her, and for the officers who were forced to take action when she brandished what appeared to be a real firearm. Me and my siblings have been suffering from bipolar and depression since we were kids, and been hospitalized throughout the years. It's really very rough at times, and i don't think many people really sympathize. I truly feel so so sad that this poor woman's life concluded this way.

The landlord literally got her killed but ok. She was a recluse, with obvious severe PTSD. Imagine bum rushing someone who’s standing on a ledge. She begged them to kill her bc them being there already was her worst nightmare, & getting pulled out of the only place she feels remotely safe by unempathetic officers to be taken to a hospital against her will & who knows how many strangers in her house (which is traumatic for anyone, but fatally traumatic in people with her issues). Friends & family will often go into a house like this & throw everything out, clean it “for” the person. It’s literally the most traumatic thing you can do, & basically GUARANTEES not only it going back to how bad it was, but WORSE typically. And the hospital stay? They’re not giving treatment someone like her needs. They have 72hrs to assess if she’s an immediate threat to herself or others. It’s a bandaid & usually adds more trauma without providing any real solutions for the person struggling.

You havent been involved in this situation yourself. Speaking from experience being hospitalized 15 times for similar things seen here: It is ordered by DOCTORS for them to be detained. The police here were truly trying to save her life. She likely knew what she was doing as I've heard other mental health patients tell me their own attempts at suicide by scaring and threatening police in similar manner.

After 20 years of marriage My wife was diagnosed schizophrenic last year. Knowing what she goes through this was extremely hard to watch. I know cops have to look out for themselves but you would think in all the chaos they could distinguish a real gun from a BB gun sound. Doesn’t matter now. She got what she wanted. Watching someone refuse treatment for mental illness and whither away every day that goes by is the hardest thing I’ve ever had to deal with. It makes me angry and also sad because as much as you want to help the person in reality, unless they volunteer to help themselves there’s not a damn thing you can do about it. And so I continue to support her as best I can and pray that in her really bad days I don’t come home to a person who’s decided they needed to leave this world before their time.
Just wanted to say I am the daughter of a schizophrenic who's been homeless for over 15 years refusing medication and a mother with bipolar schizoaffective who is on medication but still has episodes here and there throughout the years. Grandparents took guardianship over me from 9 years old I am now 24. I feel your pain.

That being said, the "smarter" thing to do, (in hindsight or when you have time to actually think) would have been for the officer to grab a 'shield-like' object, anything thick or dense enough to deflect bullets.
Worst case, they could have used tear gas to disarm her from a distance.
Upon close inspection, you realized this isn't a "kill-or-be-killed" situation, but rather a "suicide-prevention" situation.
If the cops weren't tricked by that bb-gun, they wouldn't have pulled their actual guns and unwittingly aided her in committing suicide.
Again, the biggest issue here is that suicidal mentality, which was mistaken as a suicidal/homicidal mentality.
The 1st step to solving any problem is to CORRECTLY identify the actual problem. Wrong problem, wrong reaction to that problem.
That's your analysis, there should had been a female cop there to handle the situation to watch her every move when she got up. And this young ladie should be in PhD care NOT DEAD!!!

I dont think you would want to prioritize that if someone pulls out a gun at you, real or not a trained officer wouldnt wait for it to happen, they deal with the situation immediately.
I see what you mean, but she pulled a gun on them so they had to kill her out of self defense for their safety, and the first officer told her multiple times to put the gun down and that he didn’t want to kill her.
Several years ago, this young lady was on the show, Hoarders. She was a compulsive shopper, mostly QVC, and the like. It was clear then, that she needed help.

I agree, i would have walked away. Learn her routine and approach her away from the bedroom at a much later time. Eventually her phone location will ping officers to all her wearabouts

My Dad was a cop. One of his fellow police officers shot a woman who had a fake gun, pretty much exactly the same situation. He slowly but surely lost everything, he got a divorce, lost his kids, his house, his job... I don't know were he is now. He was a kind & gentle man, killing someone, even though it was in self-defense, broke him.
Why can’t they just tranquilize these types of people or something? Shooting is clearly not the only option in taking someone down. 😐
@@ViaMirage She had a weapon, well at least they thought she did as it was a pretty realistic looking bb gun and orange barrel tips no longer mean it's not a bb gun because people will sometimes paint the end of a gun orange, and theres not a 100% chance non-lethal will be successful all the time.

Mental illness is a real and often ignored problem.
So sad for everyone involved. People that judge police actions so harshly don’t understand the danger officers put themselves in everyday. Despite the first policemen getting shot at he still tried. Those few seconds showed his compassion and bravery. I doubt most people would think of the shooter with compassion with bullets whizzing by.
I remember her from that 80s movie Stand and Deliver... so sorry to see this happening to her 😓
it’s so sad when someone falls and nobody is around to lift them up out of the dark places their minds can take them to. I’ve been there and definitely was really considering doing something stupid, but luckily I have people who genuinely loved me and wanted me to live.

Her bed is covered in filth :( I know that feeling. When I was really depressed I didnt leave my bed for an entire year and it looked like this. So happy that i made the decision to get help. Sorry she felt she had to end it
It's terrible. The thought of moving becomes so alien, it's like being held down under the weight of misery and everything that's normal like tidying, showering, engaging with people just starts to melt away. I'm glad you're doing better!
I’m there right now. Been bedridden for a year. But it’s not so simple as depression. In fact with me even tho I have severe ptsd brain injury & depression.. it’s my other physical ailments that keep me too weak to do anything. If I have a good day or a treatment that actually helps, I don’t have to do mental gymnastics, or stop being sad even. I can function instantly. I am my old self. Also not as simple as “getting help”. I need help, just not the kind being offered. I’ve spent 200k & every doctor says something different. I’m so very happy you got out of it. Know it can come back, so be vigilant & find healthy supportive people to surround yourself with. Pray for me lol.
