Really enjoyed this interview. I stumbled on Sped's site and asked myself the same question. I saw CS when he was playing in Sharks, supporting Roxy Music around 1973 at the Liverpool Empire. Andy Fraser was the bass player for Sharks after Free folded. I've seen CS play a couple of times since on various Roxy Music/Bryan Ferry tours. A lovely guy who doesn't seem unduly affected by stardom.

Old School!!! Love it! Born in 1968, a teenager in the early 80s, I may be an anomaly but prefer the recording and tone and gear (for the most part..) and work-ethic and tone of the pre-MTv music in general. Exceptions (of course) but my gear and playing and what I listen to is pretty much what he is talking about. Sped, anyone else you might be related to that you need to interview???

He’s never claimed to have played on “Never Mind the Bollocks”.
He worked on a demo called “Spunk” with them and Steve Jones has said that when people ask if he was on NMtB, he just says yes “to keep the myth going”. Apparently Chris Thomas was a hard taskmaster and made the band get it right so people were suspicious of how tight it all sounded.

What a lovely chap, shame that you're not actually related! And fabulous stories from the real golden era, i.e., my era - I have to feel almost sorry for those who didn't live through the 70's in particular when music and trends were constantly changing and advancing....the only down side for those of us that did is that we no longer have our youth (and that means up to the age of 40 to me....). Would have liked to hear more about Chris's time working with Bryan Ferry around 2010/11 - what a superb band of musicians gathered together at the time. Chris's stories that he had time to recount here left me with a lump in my throat and a tear in my eye of pure happiness! Rock On, and can we hear more from Chris please??

I first learned of Chris Spedding in1988 when I was 20 yrs. old, and he played the most soulful solo on the extended 2+ minute outro of "Man With A Gun" by Jerry Harrison & Casual Gods. Just amazing. Time stamp goes to the 4 min mark, but the entire song is great, and even greater with Chris' outro: ruclips.net/video/uDUME8KobW4/видео.html
I always envisioned him playing it on a simple Telecaster. I got to talk to Jerry Harrison about it when I ran into him after a No Doubt show in Long Beach, CA, USA. Even Jerry said he didn't have a copy of it [on CD] as it was a special mix, just on an Australian CD Single.
Year's earlier, KROQ would play "the full guitar version" and that's how I fell in love with it. [Had to call in and ask DJ Swedish Egil where I could find it, as it wasn't on the two movie soundtracks, nor the LP.] Aussie eBay was my salvation.
